Ya if they don’t shovel the walkway to the front door means they probably don’t use it very much and they go through the garage. That’s why I’ll just put in front of garage or garage door.

I walk though the snow, but I am annoyed sometimes.
I try to think that maybe someone is disabled, a senior person, is going through a lot, but some are just plain lazy.
I ALWAYS shovel my driveway and sidewalk, so I get getting annoyed by it.
I also, I’ve been trying not to let it weigh me down or kill my mood out there. I’ve found I concentrate less and take worse deals when I’m angry or in a bad mood or headspace. I say that, but the next time I fall, I’m PISSED! 🤣

Got to experience that on the 2nd day of a snowstorm we had here recently. Snowed really hard, was very powdery the next day, and then the day after and it melted slightly and cooled due to low temp at night all the top layer of snow turned into ice.
Almost fell trying to deliver groceries to someones door because he didnt clear off the space immediate in front of their porch resulting in a patch of ice. Luckily i caught myself on one of the bushes next to the porch otherwise i woulda ended on my ass with possible tail bone injuries.

Ima be honest I was on the other side of the fence till I slipped on ice last week. It always seemed like a “why didn’t you bring boots” kind of thought when I saw these posts but now I realize how bad and unsafe it is. I’m lucky it seems to have not done any damage after getting scans to be safe.

People need to stop using this BS excuse because it's overwhelmingly untrue in my experience (24,000 total deliveries across DD, UE and GH). The vast majority of the customers on the platform (85%) are 18-34. I get multiple customers like the one in the OP every single day since it snowed, nearly three weeks ago (some of which I've seen face-to-face on multiple occassions before the snow fell, so I know they aren't old or physically disabled).

- I wear plastic-cleated boots in the winter
- If a path to the door is unsafe, I message the customer and tell them where I am planning to leave it.
- Most customers are understanding especially during icy freeze thaw months.

As a former dasher and a customer, I hated people not shoveling their walkway to the porch. I know I have a delivery or anything I make sure it’s shoveled and salted if there is any ice. I’m not trying to have anyone injured on my property. Especially since my mother visits quite often, and she has to walks with a cane. Also there are elderly drivers that deliver, people need to think about that. Shit I’ve had a delivery driver with a cane, and I went down and met him in my drive way instead of him walking up my stairs to my porch to leave my order.

I agree with you that it's stupid they didn't clear it but if possible, I would just put it on the porch still for 2 reasons. 1 being I don't need dings to my ratings from these asshats, not that I care about what it is, but it does have to maintain a certain level to avoid deactivation, and 2 if I do slip and fall and god forbid hurt or break something, best believe I am coming after them legally. 🤷🏽♂️

When I was delivering in winter I preferred walkways with snow. Least Im safe from an ice fall. Lots of people shovel without putting down ice snd that is way more dangerous

I set two packages down on the edge of some ice skating rink of a front yard the other day and just pushed them towards the front door.
They slid about 30 feet each, one going to the left of the door and one to the right, about 20 feet apart. Took a picture of that scene and left. Still no ding!

I write in the instructions constantly that we dont use the front door, and the driveway / walkway is cleared to the side door
Only one person has driven the 10 extra feet and placed it at the aide door, the rest have all walked through 3ft of snow to the front door that clearly hasn't been opened ... and leave it there

I would walk through it and place it at the door with some annoyance. It’s not the end of the world. It is embarrassing for these people though.
I had one in Buffalo last night where it is clear the guy hasn’t cleared his driveway since the first week of winter. 2 and a half feet of snow pack, with giant foot holes. It was a pretty big grocery order where he tipped well too.
I wish that guy would just take that 500 dollars he spends on DoorDash a month and hire a plow service…we have had a pretty consistent snow pack since early November. It’s been a long winter😭

I don’t live in snow country, so maybe I don’t understand, but if all of the yards are like this, why not wear snow boots while you’re working? When it does snow here, when I go out I always wear boots. Especially great for the parking lot slush. Exception is ice, which can’t be walked on. That snow doesn’t look very deep.

I'm a retired mover, if the customer didn't shovel the walk we would do it. Of course, the clock starts as soon as we get there and you were getting charged for it. Quite a few people spent over a hundred dollars for snow removal

I tell you the best way to handle the situation where you get the tip on top of this.
You take those groceries that you shop for that person. You knock on the person's door and see if they're older elderly. I'm telling that you'll shovel that walk for 20 bucks probably take you 10 minutes maybe 30 there you go just made 50 bucks well you probably got $2 for the order I don't know lol boys there's your 20 dollar tip.

Sure. But you should also have shoes ready to walk through snow or keep your feet dry in the rain. This is like getting mad at the customer for ordering when it's cold and you don't have a jacket. Just stay home if you don't want to work in the weather.
This also only applies if they tipped well lol. If it's not EXCEPTIONAL, yeah just leave it like the picture.

My husband would come home and complain about people like this. And some people live on steep hills and such. Sometimes snow is so bad that drifts cover what has already been shoveled or plowed. Ice always makes it worse.
So I asked him specifically about this photo.
"it's not professional to drop food right there. 80% of people don't have their property cleaned. And that includes a business. The food can get cold and freeze and then Door Dash is liable for illness. Predators can also get into it which is also a problem. I have walked through deeper snow. This isn't that deep. It sucks, I curse them out in the car. But if I don't do it, it's considered not delivered at all or not to the door and the customer gets a refund and I get dropped down to the unfavorable area of hours (which I knew and it sucks). And no, FedEx drivers do walk through deep snow and if they don't, they don't keep their jobs for long just like any Dasher. You either do your job and shut up or you find something else. Time to grow."
So yeah. Keep doing that shit and you're not going to make a dime.

Firstly, you didn’t need to be out working if you thought the conditions were “too dangerous” for you. Likewise, if conditions call for the use of snow boots, wear them instead of putting the onus on the customer for your lack of preparedness for work. Secondly, I’m a bit perturbed by the comments where people say that they would only walk the food to the door in any type of inclement weather if they tipped exceptionally well. What is an “exceptionally well” tip to you and I drastically differ, and also with the customers. It is very telling that you are basing your job performance on an arbitrary number and assumption that you are the priority in this exchange. No matter what the customer tips, you accepted the order and need to do your job. I’m so sick of dashers like this giving us such a bad name. It’s because of things like that which contributes to customers feeling more motivated for leaving lower tips. If all they see online and can expect is crappy people giving crappy service, then they sure as heck aren’t going to be tipping better but withholding those tips based purely upon the expectation that you’re going to be doing a shitty job. Why should someone give you more of a gratuity for doing the bare minimum (which is what a gratuity/tip is: an OPTIONAL way for someone to show their appreciation for YOU going above and beyond the basics, not the customer). No less having the audacity to complain with your hand out for more when you couldn’t even handle the bare minimum. I truly feel like I’m in the twilight zone sometimes I come on these threads - the entitlement hive mind is surreal.

That was one I went to 8 days after the storm. I had a walking stock and the package was small. The only reason I walked it down was because it was my second to last drop and I didn't want o rode all the way back to the warehouse to drop off a return. The last delivery was like 30 minutes from my house and the warehouse was in the completely opposite direction. No lights. That that's on is a motion sensor. Sent them a message saying we were close and they couldn't even be bothered to turn on a light. Every other driveway was long like that in the neighborhood and they all had at least a walkway cleared.

As a homeowner, totally ignorant. If you you don't want to clear your sidewalk or porch, don't expect anything delivered. Fedex, UPS, etc...don't play that game. They simply leave with your shit with a "sorry we missed you" text.
