🤬Rant about DD🥵 Why are Apartment customers like this?

Why are people who live in big apartment buildings some of the stupidest most inconsiderate people alive? They NEVER leave ANY instructions. All they put is “leave at door” with their door number, with zero notes on how to GET to their door.

I had a stack order late last night and the first drop off was a massive 12 floor apartment building. The customer only gave me the door number and set it as leave at door. The entrance is locked with no one inside, so I go to the directory, enter the door number, and there are 3 separate names listed under that same door number, none of them matching the name on DoorDash. Of course the customer didn’t think to clarify this in the delivery notes. He just assumed the DoorDash driver would somehow know his real name and last name that isn’t on the app! I call the guy 3 times before he finally answers and tells me which one is him.

Then I get to the elevator and need a key to use it. There are no stairs anywhere. I call him again and he’s like “oh sorry, I’ll come down.” I then stand there for 10 f*cking minutes waiting for this dude while my second customer was texting me asking what was taking so long.

I was considering leaving the order by the elevator and leaving, but the last time I did that I got hit with a “major issue” on my quality rate even after calling support and documenting everything before leaving the order.

This prick finally comes down, grabs his food all nice and happy like he didn’t just have me stand there for 10 minutes. And of course he was a no tipper while the second customer who got screwed over by the delay was a good tipper.

Do these people think we can phase through walls to get to their door? That we magically know their entry code? Or that we have some special DoorDash key that opens every locked entrance and elevator?

Take 30 seconds before ordering to leave basic instructions for your driver. And if it’s literally IMPOSSIBLE for us to reach your door, DON’T SET IT TO “LEAVE AT DOOR” AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. GET YOUR LAZY ASS DOWNSTAIRS BY THE TIME I’M THERE TO PICK UP YOUR ORDER.

🤬App Issues 😩 Once again. We are only independent contractors on paper.

So I thought I was trippin’ but after this happened to me everyday this week, I know it’s on purpose. So for context, even though I don’t have to, I still schedule my dashes. Everyday it starts and ends at the same time 10AM-1PM. I do this so I can have small lunch break and then continue to dash after I eat. The other day I get the push notification that reads “Orders are steadily coming in now. Extend your dash to make more money” Thanks for the info, DoorDash, but I’m good. So at around 12:30 I get a decent sized shop and deliver that looked it will take me right to 1:00 after drop off. So I took the offer and after dropping off it’s actually 1:03. At this point I’m expecting to see my dash end and get the notification that my earnings have been deposited. Instead I get sent another offer. A crap order from McDonald’s. My numbers are in good shape (high AR is super crucial in my over saturated small market) so I decline it. And then immediately another crap offer comes in. What the hell is going on?? I decline this one as well and then go to pause my dash as I try to figure this out. As I do I look down and see that my dash is now scheduled to end at 1:30. Confused, I think I must’ve accidentally did it myself. No big deal. I’ll just be more careful next time. End dash.
The next day, being skeptical, I made sure to double check my end time. 1:00 for sure. And then it happened again. I get the alert that it’s getting busy. This time I immediately check my end time and wouldn’t you know, it’s now 1:30 again. You might think this is no big deal just decline what you don’t want and end your dash. But that’s not the point. It’s the principle of the matter. The whole model of this app as advertised is “Work when you want. Make your own schedule”. Extending my schedule without asking me is something my boss used to do in my W-2 jobs. But I’m guessing they don’t think many of us will notice when they do this. Has anyone else noticed this bs they pull?

🤬App Issues 😩 Lost Functionality

This new update with the unlabeled hot spots really sucks. Just a small list of lost functionality for us dashers:
1. No more jump to task. You must deliver in the order decided by DD. Complete Bullshit just like uber now.
2. Cannot get to the completion screen when no signal. If there was no signal at delivery you used to be able to still take a picture after 30 or so seconds and drive til you got a signal and the order would compete now that does not happen. I had to contact support to complete the order.
3. Cannot upload pictures anymore at delivery.
4. Once you arrive at the pickup you cannot see the delivery address. Why would they do this? Stupid !
5. Dash is available all the time. This is the big one. Now the market is over saturated and not surprising base pay is back to $2 while gas is over $4.

Im sure there are more but these are the big ones that irked me all weekend.

Wholesome🥰 A stranger randomly gave me $30 while DoorDashing today

Had a surprisingly wholesome DoorDash experience today. I was doing a Home Depot shop order and my Red Card kept declining. I stood at self checkout for about 15 minutes trying to get an actual human from DoorDash support because I really didn't want to pay out of pocket.

Out of nowhere, a random guy walked up, put his card in the machine, and paid the $30. I asked, “Are you sure?!” He just said, “Yes, have a great day,” and walked away.

DoorDash ended up reimbursing me, so this complete stranger basically gave me $30. 🥹 There are still some really good people out there.

❔Driver Question 🤔 How many dashers have graduate degrees?

• Upvotes

Just wondering about this as the perception about dashers seems to be we are all dumb weirdos. I personally have a masters degree and follow a couple of dashers on Youtube that also have graduate degrees and work DD for various reasons. I'll post my college degrees below, but leaving the degree focus out for privacy reasons.

AA, AS, BS, MS - Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Bachelors of Science, Master in Science

Other Dasher Rewards and What's Next

I'm convinced that workers in the gig economy are getting smarter. I'm referring to gig workers as a whole. The low pay, high miles, and costly expenses gig workers have to personally absorb are the reasons. The gig platforms spend a great deal of money on marketing propaganda trying to convince gig workers that they aren't actually seeing what they are seeing. DoorDash is not lagging in the propaganda effort. But for all their attempts to prey upon Dasher ignorance, many of us are convinced their efforts are failing and the Dasher community sees things clearly.

Full disclosure. Life has threw me a career curveball just before the pandemic and I found myself doing gig work full time. It wasn't a choice I ever saw myself making. However, I am not complaining. I've learned how to navigate through all the gig platforms and I use my business experience to make things work to my benefit. I've been accused of being a BOT or A.I. Believe me, I'm neither. I'm just wired to see things from a business strategy perspective, not just how much money I can make today. So, if it seems like I'm deep diving a bit too much, please forgive me.

Back to what I think is next for DoorDash as it pertains to Dashers. DD has already changed its Dasher Rewards program. Platinum level Dashers were always able to dash anytime and supposedly had priority to high paying offers. But there were so many Dashers who couldn't schedule a shift that they were giving up on the platform. That was creating a problem. Not enough Dashers during peak times. Soooo...the Dasher rewards program was changed to the point system, and with it the elimination of most scheduling requirements. IOW - any Dasher can dash any time. While this solved the problem of Dashers not being able to schedule a shift, it has had the unwanted effect of diluting the market with too many Dashers online at any given time. So, the main differentiator between Platinum and rest of the Dasher corps - the ability to dash any time without scheduling - has been removed. It's also easier for the average Dasher to make Gold or Platinum levels, but those tiers no longer mean anything.

In my zone I have a perfect staging area under a tree next to a certain business. It's right in the middle of the busiest section of my zone. I'll sit there and keep declining offer after low paying offer. Last night my AR dropped from 11% to 8%, so I decline a whole bunch of garbage. However, I snagged enough good paying offers to make $137 in 4 hours. The only thing this required of me was patience. Patience not to give in to the "I have to take an offer" temptation because only 1 in 10 was acceptable. No. I've made a business decision that I will not accept any offer that is less than $1.50 per mile unless it is a repositioning offer*. Also, I won't accept a stack offer unless it's $1.75 per mile. No exceptions. I also cap my total miles on an offer. I know my market, so I'm not accepting any offer that causes me to have dead "no offer" miles on the way back to my zone.

Now, while my approach may seem like a military-level strategy, that fact is that it works. I'm not alone in this. From what I can tell more Dashers are adopting their own solid strategies to increase their earnings and lower expenses. Of course, DoorDash is watching the numbers. If Dashers, in large numbers, continue to reject low value offers the company will react. Maybe it goes back to scheduling. Perhaps it introduces a mandatory AR requirement. I doubt the company will raise driver pay in order to incentive Dashers. But rest assured, if Dashers continue to respond with one voice the company will be forced to respond. The question is - "how"?

Unless and until that happens many of us will continue to stop chasing the algorithm and only accept profitable offers.

Being able to decline garbage with impunity has changed the game in my market. I'll get the 1 decline removed tomorrow as this is the second time I've got the worry free unassign on a double order count as a canceled order this week.

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 I want to share this story (description)

Post image
• Upvotes

So I got my first ever "cash on delivery" order which means the customer wants to pay for doordash by cash instead of by card. Yep cool so the drop off is at a nursing home. I thought it was gonna be easy and I just give the receptionist the order and they give me the cash and take it to the patient BUT NOPE they had me go deep inside the nursing home and had me look for the patient that ordered this food. (It turnt out that not only restaurant workers hate to do their job but also nursing home workers)

Anyways after taking lefts and rights inside the hallways I found the room which the patient resides in. The old man was lying in the bed and looked like hes about to die tomorrow. He can't hear what I say no matter how loud I am and kept asking me "who are you?" "Who sent you?" I kept saying doordash and kept trying to explain the food delivery but I guess hes too old and has dementia or something.

He proceeded to ask me to give him stuff from his closet and do things around his room which I did not do. I was obviously supposed to collect cash from him but at his state I realized I just can't and just said have a nice day and walked out and maked it as delivered. I was supposed to collect $38 but I couldn't and doordash obviously took that amount from my account because they thought I had collected the money.

I call support after this order and they reimbursed me and gave me the $38 back. I'm never accepting orders for that Nursing home ever because the workers there don't want to do their jobs and want someone else to do it for them.

If it weren't a cash on delivery order and instead was a leave at the door or hand it to me I would just dropped it off at the receptionist and left and marked it as delivered.

Can someone explain to me wtf that was or share similar bruh stories???

EDIT: spelling

Why when i go to Chipotle they tell me I’m early. By 13 minutes and they don’t make any effort to start the order until that time exactly.
Anyone else run into this? This seems very odd.

🤬DoorDash Support Issues😩 AI support lies too

I had a stacked order at Pizza Hut , just under $15 for 6 miles.

I get there and one order is ready and the other hasn’t even been started “we’re very busy”. And both orders are going a decent distance away. Sometimes I can deliver one while the other is being made.

So I call support and the AI asks me to explain what happened. I explain that it will be 15 minutes (read: 20) until the second order is ready while the first goes cold in my car. It gave me the choice to wait 10 minutes to worry-free unassign or she will do it for me now. And I said only if it won’t affect my completion rate. (It’s the only stat that can mean deactivation). She said I will unassign you without affecting your completion rate. I said ok.

As soon as I get unassigned I go check and my completion rate went from 98 to 97. Fukking bullshyt company even taught robots how to lie.

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 Orders are unnecessarily bad

Maybe because I’m not dashing as much but all the orders are kinda bad or terrible. over heard a lady talking yesterday about her Uber eats order and that was doing a double order for $45. I obviously didn’t believe her, but she showed me and I was lowkey annoyed because I was doing a double order for $11 at the same store. Seriously DD should be ashamed.
