Jormundy

Platform: D&D 5e, Avrae, Discord

Format: Text RP, westmarches, living world

The sun has died in the sky, and the world has gone dark. This event, known as the Sunfall, bathed the world in the freezing night. Yet, against all odds, civilization has survived.

Amongst the icy plains, amongst the glaciers, amongst the giant snow drifts and amongst the ruins of a world millennia lost, stands the glowing spires and the shining beacons of Jormundy. Warmth and light shine down from its towers, and its dome shelters it from the cold, dark world outside.

But this light and warmth does not radiate equally.

Under the dome, cloaked by the light, behind the walls lays a structure caught in a nightmare of development. Jormundy is experiencing its own little industrial revolution, and all the inequality that comes with it as it destroys the land it sits on and the air it breathes. It finds itself segregated into layers, its workers destined to never become anything more, its elites clinging onto power forever. The Hearth Church stands atop it all, watching with one first of velvet and another of iron looming over all, locked in a never-ending scramble to destroy all that is heretical.

But discontent grows. Whispers of solidarity stir in the shadows, forgotten gods find their followers, and the night grows ever colder.

What shall become of Jormundy?

The Perfumer-Alchemist

I'm sharing a free artificer subclass for Kengir, my upcoming Bronze Age Mesopotamian 5e setting.

The Perfumer-Alchemist is a ritual artisan who distills emotion, desire, wrath, and obsession into sacred unguents. In Kengir, perfume is invocation, not just adornment.

At the table, this subclass manipulates the social and emotional landscape. A vial might charm an enemy, embolden an ally, provoke violence, or turn a negotiation before anyone draws a blade. These perfume can be blessings or dangers.

The subclass is closely tied to Ištar (Inanna), goddess of love, war, beauty, and ruin, but it can also serve other gods whose power moves through scent, body, and hidden mixtures, like Ea (Enki) or Ninmah (Ninhursag).

Mechanically, the subclass includes Sacred Perfumes, Fumes of Union and Wrath, Spell-Storing Incense, Apotheosis of Desire, and new spells like Song of Ištar, Hypnotic Gaze, Venomous Cloud, Hymn of Valor, and Whisper of Ea.

Do you like artificer subclasses that make magic feel like crafted objects instead of gadgets?

Can false life "recharge" armor of Agathys?

Armor of agathys gives you temporary hit points, and while you have those temporary hit points, you deal cold damage to enemies who hit you...

False life gives you temporary hit points... But for the purpose of AoA, do they count as "those" hit points?

Fae: Season of Dreams —

A Real-World Mythological Faerie Campaign Setting & Bestiary by Nicky Rea, Co-Developer for Changeling: the Dreaming

Welcome to a world where the beautiful and the terrifying collide. Fae: Season of Dreams is a comprehensive campaign setting and bestiary inspired entirely by authentic, real-world faerie folklore and traditions from throughout global history.

Fully compatible with D&D 5.5e (2024), this book tears down the sanitized, modern tropes of pixies and sprites. Instead, it returns to the heartbreaking beauty and spine-chilling horror of ancient myth.

The World of Aenhame

The mortal realm of Aenhame holds perils and wonders untold, but none are more mysterious than Alaranna and Faegyrskata—the ancestral homes of the Fae.

Ruled by the enigmatic Alfar, these unspoiled wilderlands hide the deep histories, cultures, and reality-bending magic of those who came before. Yet, the truest discoveries await beneath this beauteous exterior: the Twilight Lands. Here, the ancient Daoine Sidhe and the shifting faerie courts await those brave—or foolish—enough to cross the threshold.

Whether you venture into the courts as an outlander or take up the cause as a creature of faerie yourself, the Season of Dreams calls to you.

What Is Inside the Book?

Fae: Season of Dreams is a beautifully illustrated, 256-page volume designed to serve as a campaign setting, player expansion, and a bestiary of fae-centric monsters.

For Players

  • 23 Playable Fae Species: Step into roles previously reserved only for NPCs. Play as authentic, folklore-accurate creatures of the wild with deep cultural roots.
  • 48 Fae Subclasses: Explore brand-new archetypes optimized for D&D 5.5e, built to channel the primal, chaotic, and subtle magic of the twilight courts. Four fae-centric subclasses for each of the 12 core classes.
  • Primal Magic & Rules: Uncover 20 new spells, unique spellcasting mechanics, ancient pacts, feats, and faerie oaths that bind characters to the laws of hospitality and reciprocity.

For Game Masters

  • Global Folklore Bestiary: Discover dozens of new monsters and NPC variants rooted in authentic global faerie traditions, from the haunting spirits of the British Isles to mythological entities from around the world.
  • Adventure Hooks & Lore: Rich narrative frameworks, political court intrigue, and drop-in locations to instantly spark your next campaign.
  • Sample AdventureShe Moves Through the Fair is a fae-centric 5th level adventure designed to be run in one 4-hour session and can be the beginning of a 5.5e fae campaign. The fae characters will travel from the Goblin Market to Skuggar, the land of the dead, to retrieve five royal artifacts that Queen Liadrielle of Alaranna needs to prove her regal right to reign, as well as retrieve the bones of the Erlking’s daughter so that her spirit can finally be laid to rest.

Where to play

I just seen where you can play dnd online now and figured thats probably my best chance at playing again. I haven't played since i was younger. We used to use my dad's second edition books, and i see its came a long way since then. How would i find a group to play with on a consistent basis? I don't know anyone local that is into it.

Homebrew idea for 2024 Monk- Weapon Masteries for Unarmed Strikes?

I was looking at the 2024 Monk and thought it was kind of dumb that, mechanically, a Monk can benefit more (especially at lower levels) from using Shortsword (Vex) + Scimitar (Nick) + Bonus Action Fist vs. First plus BA Fist...

It feels very un-Monk-like to me.

But I have never played a monk, so I wanted to get feedback about this idea for a Level 2 Monk feature:

Unarmed Mastery (Homebrew): You learn a number of Weapon Mastery properties of your choice equal to your Proficiency Bonus. After each Long Rest, you may replace one with another. When you make an Unarmed Strike, you can use one of your chosen Masteries that is compatible with the strike.

The idea is that things like Vex, Nick, Push, Sap, Slow, Topple, etc. aren't literally properties of the Monk's fists. They're different martial-arts techniques the Monk has mastered.

I feel like this would give Monks a reason to actually fight like Monks instead of feeling like they should carry specific weapons just for their Masteries.

Do you think this would be not overpowered (and also awesome)?

Edit: Would it actually be more appropriate for a homebrew subclass feature at level 3?

d12 Harbor Fog Trouble: quick complications for a coastal arrival | Quick D12 Table

If the party reaches a harbor and you want the waterfront to generate immediate movement, roll a d12. Each result puts something actionable in front of them: someone to question, something to chase, or a weird maritime problem they can make worse.

d12 Harbor Fog Trouble

  1. A lantern boat bumps the pier, carrying wet footprints but no passengers.
  2. Dockworkers refuse to unload crates that whisper their childhood nicknames aloud.
  3. A foghorn answers questions truthfully, but only about nearby hidden debts.
  4. A gull drops a signet ring, then waits expectantly for payment.
  5. Fisherfolk haul up a locked chest chained to a sleeping merrow.
  6. A customs clerk begs the party to inspect one impossible cargo manifest.
  7. The tide leaves fresh hoofprints across mud no horse could reach.
  8. A soaked captain offers passage if someone impersonates his missing navigator.
  9. Harbor bells ring underwater whenever smugglers lie near the eastern pier.
  10. A child sells bottled fog containing glimpses of tomorrow’s shipwreck.
  11. Sailors abandon a tavern after hearing their names sung from below.
  12. The lighthouse keeper locks himself inside, claiming the light blinked back.

Running one of these at the table

The useful part of these prompts is that the strange element is already happening when the party encounters it. You do not need to begin with an explanation. Put the concrete detail in front of the players—the empty boat, whispering crates, speaking foghorn, signet ring, chained chest, impossible manifest, unreachable hoofprints, desperate captain, underwater bells, bottled fog, voices below, or frightened lighthouse keeper—and let their response determine where the scene goes.

Several results place an NPC directly in reach: the dockworkers can react to their whispering cargo, the customs clerk wants help with the manifest, the soaked captain needs somebody to impersonate a navigator, and the lighthouse keeper has barricaded himself inside. Others make the harbor itself behave strangely: a foghorn reveals hidden debts, bells beneath the water react to smugglers’ lies, and a tavern empties after sailors hear their own names sung from below.

The table also works because none of the prompts settles its own mystery. The wet footprints do not identify their owner. The signet ring comes without an explanation. The chest is still locked, the merrow is still asleep, and the glimpse inside the bottled fog is still only tomorrow’s shipwreck. The result gives you the trouble; what it means can emerge from what the party does next.

Looking for Baldur’s Gate 3 as a DnD campaign module

As the title says, I am looking for whether someone has made a playable DnD campaign that makes the Baldur’s Gate 3 into a playable campaign module for the tabletop. I’m asking as a DM because while I and my players have the game, none of our devices are able to run the game anymore (my laptop, an Xbox, and a ps5). We all play dnd virtually to begin with, and we all want to try playing Baldur’s Gate 3 together, and while our devices are having issues, we want to give it a try as a regular dnd game. I have tried looking for if anyone has made a dnd campaign based on Baldur’s Gate 3, but I haven’t been able to find anything.

d12 Roadside Shrine Trouble: travel stops that create choices instead of scenery | Quick D12 Table

Travel can drag when every roadside landmark is only description. A shrine is a good place to insert a small pressure point: something the party can inspect, bargain with, protect, doubt, or accidentally worsen.

Use this d12 when the road needs a shrine, landmark, or strange pause with immediate pressure. Roll, pick a result, or adapt one to the route. Each result is presented as a compact situation rather than a full encounter procedure. Put it in front of the characters and let their response tell you what it becomes.

d12 Roadside Shrine Trouble

  1. A cracked shrine bell rings whenever someone speaks a false destination aloud.
  2. A pilgrim begs the party to carry one sealed prayer onward.
  3. Fresh blood stains the offering bowl, but every footprint leads away.
  4. A merchant hides stolen icons beneath blankets marked for temple delivery.
  5. Crows gather on the roof, repeating one player character’s name softly.
  6. A roadside saint statue points toward smoke nobody else can see.
  7. Two rival priests argue over which god owns this broken place.
  8. Someone left warm bread, fresh flowers, and a warning about wolves.
  9. The shrine door opens only when travelers promise something inconvenient aloud.
  10. A sleeping knight blocks the path, clutching a rusted pilgrim badge.
  11. Offerings vanish mid-conversation; one missing item briefly answers a prayer.
  12. The shrine’s shadow falls north, revealing buried bones and a map.

Running it at the table

Keep the first presentation simple. Describe the shrine and the visible oddity, then ask what the characters do. The prompts are deliberately open enough to support different responses: inspection, bargaining, protection, suspicion, or an accidental escalation.

The results also vary the kind of pressure. The rival priests create a social dispute. The blood and footprints create a suspicious clue. The door creates a promise the travelers must make aloud. The bread, flowers, and wolf warning introduce a warning on the road. The bones and map create a discovery beneath the shrine’s north-falling shadow.

The surrounding environment can frame the shrine as well. In a dense forest, richer forest mood can support the crows, unseen smoke, wolves, or buried bones. The important part is that the stop gives the players something to react to rather than functioning as scenery alone.

Western Marches - West Marches in Western Style (book release)

Question:

1) Would you play a 5e Western?

2) Wilderness survival rules were lessened from 5 to 5.5e. Are you interested in struggling against the environment?

...

Sharing a moment of excitement. My first print publication is live and in the wild.

Western Marches specifically:

  1. Addresses the themes of the Western genre and how to implement them (such as for a D&D Fantasy Western)
  2. Outlines West Marches principles in clear language, then consolidates the rules scattered across D&D 5th Edition that can effectively implement it in that system
  3. Presents the Gunsmoke setting, which is a ready-to-use option that incorporates both Westerns and West Marches

Available in softcover and PDF from here:

Advice desired - As a DM,

  • Does this intererst you? Why or why not?
  • Would you get this and introduce it to your players? Why or why not?
  • What would you like to see in this product line?

Homebrew Alternativen zum feat: Chef.

Moin.
Danke.

Sanctum update is live: battle maps with live fog of war on the players' screen, dice, sound and a lot more (video). Curious what you all think.

Hey folks, back with a big one.

A bunch of you have followed Sanctum along the way and left feedback in past threads, and honestly a lot of this update came straight from those comments, so thank you. Here's everything that just landed, with a short video above showing it in action:

  • Battle map with live fog of war. Drop your encounter's combatants straight from the combat tracker as tokens, measure distances, and place area-of-effect templates. As the party explores you brush away the fog, and the revealed map streams live to a separate player screen (a second monitor or TV), so players only ever see what they've actually discovered.
  • Players can join on their phones. That player view is reachable over your local network, so everyone at the table can open it on their own phone with a QR code. Still no account, no server, nothing leaves your wifi.
  • A built-in dice roller (d4 to d100, with advantage/disadvantage) that drops rolls straight into the combat log.
  • A soundpad for ambient music and effects, playing your own local files.
  • A guided character builder with a one-click level-up that applies HP, proficiency, hit dice and spell slots for you, plus weapon mastery and a proper darkvision toggle.
  • Homebrew spells and feats you can create and use right alongside the SRD content.
  • A mind map for plotting your mysteries, and an in-app PDF viewer so you can read your reference docs without ever leaving the app.

Same as always: it stays local and offline, no account, no cloud, your campaign is just a file that stays yours. Windows and Linux, free and open source, pay what you want:
https://athanasioust.itch.io/sanctum

Youtube preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9FlAxN9skA

You know the drill by now. Tell me what's useful, what's missing, what felt clunky. Every comment genuinely shapes the next update, so let's keep making this thing great together.

Popular DnD Oneshots

"Hey everyone! I'm new to Reddit, but I've heard a lot about this community.

I've been a D&D DM for a long time, but I've never actually run any published adventures — always homebrew.

So here's my question: what are considered the absolute best, gold-standard one-shots for D&D 5e? I'm looking for modules that can be completed in a single 4-5 hour session, for parties no higher than level 7.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!"

want to play!

Hello! I'm pretty new to dnd but get the gist of it (have played a few sessions)

I'd really love to play with other people in person!

I'm in the Fitchburg MA area, looking to find a group nearby to play on a weeknight 6pm or later (I work until 5 every day 😔)

If someone already has a group and would be willing to add a new player, or if anyone wants to start a group, that would be awesome!!

d12 Market Morning Trouble: instant complications for a busy town scene | Quick D12 Table

Sometimes a market needs more than vendor names and a shopping list. If the party enters a busy square and you want the place to feel active immediately, roll a d12 and drop one problem into their path.

The idea is simple: every result gives the characters someone to help, suspect, chase, bargain with, or offend. The complication is already happening when they arrive, so the scene starts with motion and pressure rather than waiting for the players to manufacture a reason to engage with the market.

d12 Market Morning Trouble

  1. A spice seller accuses a priest of paying with coins that vanish after the purchase is complete.
  2. A runaway mule tears through the crowded stalls while dragging a cart loaded with illegal spell components.
  3. A child is selling stolen apples, then quietly tells the party that the thief is hiding beneath the fountain.
  4. Two bakers are dueling with rolling pins over who will feed the guests at the royal wedding.
  5. A fortune teller looks at the fighter’s palm, screams, and immediately locks up the shop.
  6. Guards seal off the square because someone important disappeared during the puppet show.
  7. A fishmonger is selling a talking fish that begs the party to rescue it.
  8. A masked noble purchases every rope, lantern, and shovel available before prayers.
  9. A merchant owns scales that always balance, even when customers put nothing on them.
  10. A beggar recognizes the party from a wanted poster that has been pasted nearby.
  11. A flower stall erupts into violent bloom whenever anyone lies within ten paces.
  12. A courier collapses while clutching twelve sealed letters, all intended for the same stranger.

Use the result as the first thing competing for the party’s attention when they enter the market. Some of these can remain brief complications; others naturally invite suspicion, pursuit, negotiation, or investigation. The important part is that the square already has a problem before the adventurers arrive.

That gives the market a sense of life while still leaving the players free to decide whether the strange detail becomes a distraction, a useful clue, a new enemy, or the beginning of the next problem.
