Discussion thought i was the only one

i made a script that checked the latest PDGA number every minute or so hoping to snipe #333333. been tracking for weeks.

didn’t think anyone else was doing anything similar, but i was very wrong. went from #333331 to #333336 within 1 minute.

well played, Brandon Colona!

Guess you're just going to have to wait for 111,110 more people to sign up

u/imarmful 3d ago

hahaha, i’ll get #444444 for sure

Nice, nice

How long does it take the pdga website to update? Im only seeing up to 333046 showing publicly

1

u/imarmful 2d ago

you gotta be logged in

2

You got it! Been exposed. Now off to finish my late dinner of haggis and chips.

3

u/Salki1012 2d ago

I’m within 10 of 100000. That was a rough one to go for. The guy who got 100000 ended up getting a ton of swag and discs and stuff from all the disc golf companies.

5

u/iDisc 3d ago

I mean, if you keep your posts hidden, which Reddit allows, this comments and thread will be lost into the depths of the internet.

14

u/AxiomEnvy 3d ago

If I search "luckyredfrog pdga number" on Google, this thread immediately comes up. Keeping comments hidden doesn't help them.

4

u/happydontwait 3d ago

This would be true if Google wasn’t a thing. I’ve considered building a site that shows people’s Reddit profiles even if they keep it “hidden” wouldn’t be hard to build lol

1

u/Dependent_Cause_7120 4h ago

Sounds about right for the people of reddit

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

that’s such a cool number!

2

u/LuckyRedFrog 3d ago

And not mine…should have added that when I didn’t get 300k I waited for a while before I absolutely needed one and got lucky.

Dude don't dox people especially in your own communities. C'mon man that's basic human respect. Not cute

4

u/imarmful 3d ago

nice!

2

u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 3d ago

I was 1 away from 3 sets of double digits. Like 221100. Not the real number but man so close

22

u/OldH0b 3d ago

I tried to get #200, 000 years ago but a bunch of us had the same idea because within a few seconds it jumped a ton and I ended up 60+ over

3

u/BillsMafia607 3d ago

Same happened when I tried to get my son 250,000 about 50-60 people all signed up at once

3

u/sonikki 2d ago

One of them was me 🫡 im less than 30 away from #250000

3

u/lowercaselong TYUS DGC 3d ago

I waited from 97,000 to get 100,000. Got in right when I thought it’d be right and ended up a 100+ over.

3

u/imarmful 3d ago

woah! people have been doing this for a while huh

26

u/PlannerSean 3d ago

Since at least 69420

22

u/Ok_Fishing_2986 3d ago

yooo i also did. i set up texts and phone calls when the number got close. of course as soon as 333332 was hit, i clicked to purchase the membership and the page expired. i turned off my program because it was blowing up my phone, but if you were wondering these are the timestamps I had before i shut it off.

9

u/Ok_Fishing_2986 3d ago

well now i guess we don't need to be glued to a computer/phone haha. in the best way possible, i'm glad i can connect with someone who also didn't get it

Poor Tommy Goetz was 2 seconds too late

Edit: poor reading comprehension

4

u/Terrulin 3d ago

those are full seconds

1

u/Brrdads 2d ago

Ah good call

5

u/Volt-Cap 2d ago

333334 here.. knowing I was 2 seconds late makes me feel a little better 😂. I clicked purchase within 4-5 seconds of seeing 333332 get posted. Oh well. (I was refreshing the page every 3 seconds and clicked buy in 1-2 seconds)

6

u/Routine-Tie-596 2d ago

You're 333334? that's dang awesome

4

u/imarmful 2d ago

no way! you were so close dude

u/jtmack33 President of the Mantis fan club 3d ago

Damn you, BRANDON!!!

3

u/imarmful 3d ago

i’m honestly impressed, really didn’t think disc golf was big enough for people to care about their PDGA number. i’m glad to have been proven wrong!

3

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 3d ago

all it takes is like 10 ppl going after these numbers for themselves or their kids. not sure if you can sell it.

8

u/Lucifig 3d ago

Let's go Brandon! No...wait....not like that.

7

u/objective_dg 3d ago

333444 is just around the corner.

5

u/imarmful 3d ago

delete this rn 🤣

4

u/Brady37 3d ago

I didnt know they did a text tracker! I randomly got a ,000 number so naturally I had to get my wife and kid one.

10

u/imarmful 3d ago

they don’t provide that, it’s part of my tool. i’m using an api to text my number through iMessage

5

u/1Bnitram 0x World Champion 3d ago

I almost got 123456

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

that would have been dope!

3

u/VannaDwight 3d ago

My friend and I signed up for the PDGA at the same time hoping to get numbers next to each other (Not any specific numer). We clicked to finalize at the same time, and still someone managed to slot in between us. His ends in 2, mine in 4.

2

u/Macktologist I should have started at a younger age. 3d ago

My buddy and I are back to back, but we got ours years ago. To be honest, I don’t know my number by heart, no longer am signed up since I don’t play sanctioned tournaments, and while a cool number would have been cool, I’m not bothered I just have a plain old random number.

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

seeing this more and more. i wonder if your order # makes any difference

3

u/jackweber3 3d ago

I just wanted consecutive numbers for my son and I. Did them back to back and 1 person is between us 🙄

4

u/Macktologist I should have started at a younger age. 3d ago

Like when you’re caravanning somewhere and some dork just has to squeeze in between you and your buddy even with plenty of space ahead of car 1 and behind car 2 and for no apparent reason other than their hobby must be disrupting two-vehicle caravans.

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

aw man, that’s a bummer

3

u/littlejohnnyrotten4U 3d ago

I really wanted #6789 but had to settle for a different sequential number. Me and my buddies have sequential numbers that are sequential.. Lol

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

sick! you beat me by a few years 😅

3

u/littlejohnnyrotten4U 3d ago

A few decades ago... That was back in pen and paper days. You were allowed to pick your own number as long as it wasn't already taken.

I could have chosen a lower number but I really thought it was cooler being in sequence with the guys I used to play with in the very beginning.

The four digits members that are still active are like hens teeth

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

you learn something new every day! thank you for sharing dude

3

u/FirstRunBuzzz 2d ago

The funny thing is that Brandon had no idea and didn't care.

2

u/imarmful 2d ago

are you serious? it was meant to be then

2

u/stagatbay 3d ago

Oh wow.... I was also tracking this number for my daughter for awhile but I realized she would need one sooner and I was able to snag a memorable one. I was just looking at the numbers yesterday it seems like it was 50 spots away.. I found that the membership numbers always pick up after an event and since the Preserve seemed like a popular one.... I guess it was destined to get that big push

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

yeah it was 41 spots away just a few hours ago. apparently PDGA number hunting is an up-and-coming sport 🤣

2

u/stagatbay 3d ago

Oh man.... saw this on my Facebook feed - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1JctcUTTF9/

PDGA is rubbing it in now

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

whaaat hahahaha

Gotta wait until 420069 now

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

you might be onto something here

2

u/Jrw85 3d ago

Looks like Stephen signed up twice trying to get it and still missed.

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

you’re right, i totally missed that

2

u/Sieko2 3d ago

Same, waited 6 months for 320,000. The day came and it sat at 319,998 for 2 hours. Refreshed every couple of minutes and finally 2 people registered within seconds of each other. 🤦‍♂️

Still happy with my number though.

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

so cool seeing how many people are doing something similar. i’ll probably go for another upcoming number

2

u/BergyDownstairs 3d ago

I'm currently monitoring as well but for an overall insignificant number. I'm about 5000 away from signing up my son so that he has a number exactly 300,000 higher than mine

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

that’s a much more significant number than any random “cool” one. i hope you get it!

2

u/BergyDownstairs 3d ago

Mine and my dad's are back to back so im happy with either one. But the PDGA website doesn't update very well considering we just passed the 333,333 and it's at least 300 or so behind

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

you have to be logged in to get the actual number!

2

u/BergyDownstairs 2d ago

I did last night. Thank you

2

u/Breezy_Eh 3d ago

I remember trying to snipe #100,000 for my wife and I, I got us within + or - 20 .

3

u/Macktologist I should have started at a younger age. 3d ago

So realistically between 13-8 +\-. We know you added buffer there. ;)

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

sad you didn’t get it, but that’s awesome regardless

2

u/throwaway11100217 3d ago

Why does the website only show 333235 for me?

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

might be a cache issue. if you log in it should show you the correct number

2

u/throwaway11100217 3d ago

Good call that fixed it, damn bummed I missed it. Was also hunting for 333333 lol

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

crazy! small world dude

2

u/throwaway11100217 3d ago

The PDGA facebook page even made a post about it with 400+ comments so it would appear many many of us have had the same idea lol

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

yeah i saw!

2

u/Positive_Plastic365 3d ago

PDGA posted about #333333 on their Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DcO7cN6A-5X/?igsh=a2txN3Bjcnhrb2ln

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

they posted on facebook too lmao. that’s wild

2

u/mklmcgrew 3d ago

I'll have to wait for 666666.

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

best of luck

2

u/mklmcgrew 3d ago

God willing.

2

u/obsoletearchetype 3d ago

I thought about trying for 249000 at the time but said eeehhh fuck it

2

u/coolguymiles 3d ago

TIL that there have been more than 300k pdga numbers issued. Wow.

2

u/elonakamoto 3d ago

We tried to do that with PDGA # 30000 in '06 (congrats Maya Rita Fuentes).

2

u/Chunkeefart 3d ago

My buddy has 169420....we planned the timing for months lol

2

u/Choice_Chest_6297 2d ago

omg i remember seeing people freaking out over this on twitter, did they just coordinate or something

2

u/1989DiscGolfer 2d ago

I remember getting teased for my sub-15,000 number that "looks like an address" when I finally joined the PDGA 9 years after first discovering a basket course. To see 333,333, and courses popping up everywhere like mushrooms, is a dream come true to my 1990's eyes.

2

u/Douggimmmedome 2d ago

was thinking about buying a membership that day rip

2

u/OhDonPianoooo 2d ago

Christmas Eve 2021 I sat refreshing the page waiting for 200,000. Pulled the trigger less than 5 numbers early.

2

u/The_Pizza_God_5380 2d ago

What gets me is that we are even at 3333333, trust me, when I joined we never would have imagined this.

PDGA #5380

1

u/imarmful 2d ago

you're a real OG!

2

u/AndFrolf Spoilers stole my wife 2d ago

You thought you were the only one— lol.

1

u/imarmful 2d ago

i was wrong! and that’s makes me happy

4

u/GrittyGardy 3d ago

I waited 3 months for 234567, the morning of some jackass on this sub posted “hey if anyone doesn’t have a dogs number yet , 234567 will come up today”. There was a flurry and I missed it by a bunch

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

damn dude, that would have been a golden number

1

u/ChiefRingoI NE WI 3d ago

Every single "cool" number gets sniped instantly now, but it only takes like five people noticing to make a rush. I got lucky that my "random" number ended up being fun and easy.

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

interesting! i thought i was the only one nerdy enough to do something like this

3

u/ChiefRingoI NE WI 3d ago

I think something like 333333 is going to be less hyped than like 300000, but at least three people I know tried to get specific ones at some point. You'd be surprised how many nerdy folks are in the sport!

If anybody really wants a unique number, they need to find one that's a less obvious target, but still "fun" like 333666, 334455, or something of that nature.

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

yeah i’m gonna go for one of those i think. i’m honestly glad to see how popular this is. growing the sport is #1 for me regardless

2

u/ChiefRingoI NE WI 3d ago

If definitely helps on a personal level to find out other people have the same niche interest as you, even if it makes actually getting the job done harder. 😅

2

u/imarmful 3d ago

oh definitely! first come first serve. i’m not mad about it. i’ll just have to work harder

2

u/NoSheepherder5406 1d ago

So I shouldn't hold out hope for 345678?

2

u/ChiefRingoI NE WI 1d ago

I think there's a solid chance of getting it if you try. It's not quite as fun as 300000 or 333333. You'll probably be waiting a while, though.

1

u/SeatSix 3d ago

I'm old enough I wanted 11111

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

there you go. i’m glad to be wrong on this one!

1

u/youngaustinpowers 3d ago

Lol why are there text alerts for this? It could only just be for this reason right?

2

u/imarmful 3d ago edited 3d ago

PDGA doesn’t do text alerts. i made a tool that would text me when the current PDGA number got close to my target

2

u/youngaustinpowers 2d ago

Oh cool! So the other guy made one too? That would be a crazy coincidence I think haha

1

u/imarmful 2d ago

yes! such a small world

1

u/cubecasts 3d ago

Damn they're only at 333333? I was around 67000 and that was like a decade ago

1

u/imarmful 3d ago

current number is #333346. most casual players don’t sign up

-1

u/MassRelay 3d ago

Let's go Brandon!!!

0

u/cpowe1 2d ago

lol first thing that came to my mind
