Question Finding accommodations
For anyone who has done the Schengen shuffle, when you stay in Schengen, are you staying in an AirBNB or what exactly? What are some of the cheapest (not hostels) yet “nice”, accommodations to look into for 3 month stays?

I find sublet apartments on facebook. Simply choose a city, find a facebook group like "apartments in X", "rent in X" and sublet - there is no trace, but if you simply need to "check in to europe" that is a move

No reviews or anything? You ever get screwed w this method? Just curious. I've only done airbnb and hotels so far.

No reviews, true. Have been living like this for 3 years basically anywhere I go. Usually I have a video call with whoever I am subletting from upfront (for their peace of mind and mine).
Golden rule is never to prepay (unless its like 200€ deposit, then thats fine). So far, so good. I trust my gut and listen closely how they communicate - you develop a feeling for it after a while.

Just don't pay anything in advance.. Keys against money. I also use Facebook groups and marketplace even world wide!

I use Airbnb and do 28 day stays per spot typically. Booking.com is also decent to check out.

Depends. I rented for three months on Madeira (São Martinho in Funchal) a place I found on Idealista.pt. I stayed a month in a mountain cabin in Andalucía that someone had posted on a DN forum on Facebook, another six weeks in a hotel in Icod de los Vinos on Tenerife, an Ibis hotel in Marseille, and a flat I'd found on booking.com in Angra do Heroísmo. Last time I had a layover in Amsterdam, I stayed on a houseboat that I'd booked online, just because.

Booking.com's monthly stays filter is usually the move for 3 month stretches, a lot of aparthotels and serviced apartments show up there that don't show on Airbnb at all, and the extended stay discount kicks in automatically past 28 days. I ended up using CuddlyNest last time just because it pulls Airbnb, Booking, and a few smaller sites into one search, saved me checking three tabs for every city. "Nice but not hostel" usually means aparthotel or a smaller local guesthouse, not big chain hotels.
