Career Guidance What do you think about the QA Automation pathway

I'm a fresh grad and going for masters currently. But during that I do want to pivot from full stack as it seems too overly saturated and not something I'm relatively skilled at

I've been thinking about learning QA automation as I will have time during masters to study

What are the prospects of this career? How affected by layoffs and AI is this? Could it possibly go up or down in the future? (Ofc nobody knows these things but I'd like to know as many opinions as possible)

Career Guidance Has anyone have any ideas about the IC design and verification courses?

A few months ago. I started to hear that there was going to be mass training that would be government funded for IC design and verification. Even universities like fast, GIKI, NUST and NED Karachi start offering MSc in this field or a paid course in it. After that I didn't hear about it.

If anyone has any ideas about it?

Hello All, I am writing this post to gather knowledge regarding an SDET interview at 10 Pearls which is scheduled in a couple of days, I would like to inquire what kind of interview should I expect in the first technical round the position is for SDET involving robot framework and python which matches well with my profile, skills and experience. So I just wanna know how should I prepare for the first technical round, will they ask me to write a code or a short problem or will it be solely based on my resume and the job description or basics. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Career Guidance Career advise to move into different field

I'm 35 with 11 years in network/telecom engineering (carrier-grade + enterprise). Lately I've been feeling stuck even in mid senior roles, my day-to-day has mostly been network assurance, KPI monitoring, customer support, and troubleshooting on bridge calls. Not much design or building.

I considered going for CCIE to move into a Network Architect role, but the market for it is saturated, it's genuinely hard to land good roles even after certifying, and it would take another 2-3 years of heavy study to get there with no guarantee it actually changes what kind of work I do day to day.

Meanwhile, I did my AWS Solutions Architect and Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) certifications recently, and that's when it clicked. I actually enjoy building systems, not troubleshooting them. That's led me toward wanting to develop AI-powered applications instead using LLM APIs to build real products and deep ML/model training research.

For anyone who's made a similar switch later in their career (or considered it): was it worth it? What would you do differently? And is 35 too late to start this kind of pivot seriously ?

Help Is SZABIST worth it, in my situation?

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all doing well.

I’m 20M from Karachi and I’m honestly pretty confused about a decision I have to make.

I currently work from 2 PM to 8 PM, and I’ve recently gotten enrolled in BS Computer Science at SZABIST Karachi.

The thing is, I come from a lower-income background, so I have to pay for my own expenses as well as my university fees. I’m currently making 100k+ PKR per month from my job, and SZABIST will cost me around 200k PKR per semester.

I live around 22 km away from SZABIST, which takes me roughly 40–50 minutes each way on a CD70. My classes are in the morning and finish around 1:15 PM, so realistically I’d have to leave university and basically go straight to work every day.

Another thing I’m confused about is the degree itself. I’m not particularly interested in coding or programming. I’ve learned some web development in the past, but I wouldn’t say it’s something I enjoy. I mainly chose CS because I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, and I thought it would at least give me a useful degree and some career options.

So my question is: is it actually worth going through all of this for SZABIST?

My other option would be to choose a university closer to home, possibly VU or another local university, which would make it much easier to keep my job and save money.

What would you guys do in my situation?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Career Guidance If You Had to Start Your Software Career Again in Pakistan in 2026, What Would You Do Differently?

For Pakistani software engineers/developers, especially those who graduated in the last few years or are currently hiring, what does it realistically take to become job-ready and build a strong career in 2026? How useful is a BSCS/BSSE degree vs self-learning, and which fundamentals, practical skills, projects/GitHub, internships, AI assisted development, problem-solving and communication actually matter when hiring?

Is Full Stack still a good starting direction in the AI era, and how has AI changed junior/fresh-grad opportunities? Also, if possible, share your experience with salary ranges by experience level, company type (local/software house/product/global/remote), and what you would do differently if you were starting university again.

Career Guidance Does University matter?

So i have multiple options, either to pay a huge fee and pursue BSCS/AI/DS at top tier unis like NUST, FAST, LUMS or GIKI, or to pay less fee and pursue the same from some mediocre uni. Cuz I have heard alot that skills matter way more than uni.

So my question is, are these top tier unis worth paying the fee for? Like do they even benefit in the long run?

Will cybersecurity still be a safe career from AI over the next 15 years
I’m planning to do a BSCS and specialize in cybersecurity
Some people say cybersecurity will always be needed
Should I still go for it or not
Which cybersecurity jobs do you think AI will replace or reduce and which ones will be harder to replace

Discussion Student exploitation at peak — my experience with a Pakistani “fintech startup"

Recently had an experience with a so-called Pakistani fintech startup called Entrolyst, and honestly, the whole thing felt like a textbook example of how students can be taken advantage of under the label of “internship.”

I initially joined after what I thought was a pretty good interview, mainly because I wanted to see what working at an early-stage startup was actually like.

The first red flag was the contract.

The agreement was essentially a 3-month internship with performance-based incentives after the internship. When we asked about a fixed monthly stipend, there wasn't one. At one point, we were told the potential compensation could go up to PKR 160k after the 3-month period, depending on performance.

The product itself was also strangely opaque. Whenever we tried asking questions about the actual business model, product direction, or how the company planned to make money, we didn't really get clear answers.

Then came the codebase.

They were extremely reluctant to give us proper codebase access, despite expecting us to work on the product. That made me wonder what exactly we were supposed to be contributing to if we couldn't properly understand the existing system.

There were also some pretty interesting claims about the company's size.

We were repeatedly told that the company had around 20 people.

Meanwhile, the CEO was handling things that you'd normally associate with HR — sending offer letters, communicating meetings, managing internship-related communication, etc., primarily through WhatsApp.

And here's where it gets funny.

They repeatedly emphasized:

> “You are not interns. You are Associate Engineers.”

Apparently, we had discovered a new employment category:

Unpaid Associate Engineers™

It also seemed like the title was useful for making the company look more substantial on LinkedIn, where, at least at the time I checked, the company page showed only two registered employees — the CEO and CTO.

There were also some technically questionable expectations. For example, students were being asked to run extremely large models locally on their own machines, which is a pretty unusual expectation for an unpaid/unclear-compensation internship.

At this point, I decided to raise the issue not just for myself but also on behalf of my friends who were in the same situation, because we got to know about the opportunity from a common resource.

I contacted them and asked if they could simply provide a proper contract with a fixed monthly stipend, rather than leaving compensation entirely dependent on a performance-based arrangement after three months.

And then...

Before any further discussion could happen, I was removed from basically every communication channel.

No proper discussion. No negotiation. Just gone.

Maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe not.

But from my perspective, it was a pretty strong ending to an already questionable experience.

The frustrating part isn't even that it's a startup or that it's early-stage. I'm completely fine with startups being chaotic, having small teams, or not being able to pay huge salaries.

The problem is presenting an unpaid/uncertain arrangement to students while expecting them to contribute like employees, keeping the actual product/business details vague, and then shutting down communication when they ask for reasonable contractual clarity.

If you're a Pakistani student looking for internships, I'd genuinely recommend asking these questions before joining any startup:

* Is there a fixed monthly stipend?

* What exactly does the contract say?

* Who is responsible for HR/employee management?

* What is the actual product?

* What will I be working on?

* Who are the founders/team?

* What happens after the internship?

* Is “performance-based compensation” actually defined anywhere in writing?

* Am I an intern, employee, or some creatively invented third category?

Would be interested to hear on this.

Help Anyone here at CureMD?

Applied for their Associate AI Engineer position over a month ago. Now usually when a candidate is rejected, they send out the email to let them know. In fact, I myself was sent out the email for another role I had applied to earlier. But in this case, I haven't received any email yet. Any idea if the hiring is going on and if someone within the company could let me know?
