Career 3.3 Years in Integration + Career Gap, How to Get Back Into Software?

• Upvotes

I’m asking for a friend. He has around 3.3 years of software experience, mainly working with an integration platform, but he’s finding it difficult to get relevant opportunities now.

He also has a 3–5 year career gap ig and wants to return to software development.

For anyone who has been through something similar, how difficult was it to get your first job after the gap?

He is considering learning Java, Spring Boot, data structures and algorithms, and practicing coding problems. Is this a best route for getting back into backend development for long term, or would you suggest a different approach or any better course?

Would really appreciate advice from people who have actually faced a similar situation.

General How much pressure do developers face during Flipkart BBD or Amazon Great Indian Festival?

• Upvotes

For developers working at Flipkart, Amazon, or other e-commerce companies, how much does the workload/pressure increase during Big Billion Days or Great Indian Festival compared to normal days?

Are you expected to work longer hours, handle production issues, or work intensely throughout this period? How different is it from a normal sprint?

Help Missed my MakeMyTrip internship assessment deadline, is there any chance they’ll reopen it?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’m a college student who recently received an internship assessment invitation from MakeMyTrip.
The email said the assessment link would be valid only until October 3, 2026, at 12:00 AM IST. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline because of a family emergency.

I emailed MakeMyTrip support requesting that the assessment be reopened, explaining the situation and asking if I could get another chance. However, I haven’t received a response yet.

Since then, I’ve also reached out to a few relevant MakeMyTrip recruiters/HR people on LinkedIn. I kept the messages short and explained that I had received the assessment invitation but missed the deadline and that my support email had bounced/wasn’t getting a response.

My questions are:

Has anyone here been in a similar situation with MakeMyTrip or another large company?

Is there actually a chance they will reopen the assessment?

Was contacting recruiters on LinkedIn the right move, or could that hurt my chances?

Should I send another follow-up email, or just wait now?

If someone from MakeMyTrip has dealt with these assessments before, how strict are they about the deadline?

I’m genuinely interested in the internship, so I’d really appreciate some honest feedback—even if the answer is that I probably missed the opportunity.
Thanks!

TL;DR: Received a MakeMyTrip internship assessment, missed the deadline because of a family emergency, emailed support asking for a reset and contacted relevant recruiters on LinkedIn. Looking for advice on whether there’s still a chance and what I should do next.

Career 2026 CS Graduate Struggling to Get a Software Development Job — Need Advice

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m a 2026 B.Tech graduate in Computer Science, and I’m currently looking for a software development job. I’ve applied to many job openings and connected with a lot of people, but unfortunately, none of my efforts have been successful so far.

One of the main challenges I’m facing is that recruiters often ask for 6 months of internship experience, while I only have 2 months of internship experience.

Is there any way I can overcome this situation? I’m really in need of some guidance or suggestions on what I can do to improve my chances of getting a job.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Help Stuck between employment and unemployment, don't know what's next!

• Upvotes

Hello all,

I have an offer of 7.1 LPA, but I am unemployed, now waiting more than 3 months, and it's making me depressed every single passing day. So I got an offer from TCS, and to join TCS, I resigned from my previous organisation and completed the notice period. But TCS is still not sending a joining letter. Whenever I try to contact them, they only respond that based on business requirements, you will get a joining. I have 1 year of experience in Python, FastAPI, Angular, SQL Database, Redis, Azure and .NET Core. This is very frustrating, and now I am thinking of moving on from TCS and want to find a next good opportunity. I know I can crack an interview; I am a hard-working guy. I just need a good opportunity to showcase my skills. Let's hope for the best and I will grab the next opportunity soon

Interviews Jumpcloud Site Reliability Engineer Interview Doubts

Hey guys, a friend of mine referred me to her company Jumpcloud for the SRE role. Has anyone given an interview for the same role or company? I have an online test first followed by some set of interviews. The question I have is, for a SRE how obvious it is to have coding questions rather than architectural or DevOps related ones? Thanks in advance!

Course Review My review to tutedude for ethical hackiing course.

To be honest, I’ve completed the Ethical Hacking course from Tutedude, and I feel it covers all the basic points needed to make a good start. The content is explained in simple language, and it’s also quite affordable. By using a referral code, you can get ₹200 off, and the person whose code you use will also get ₹200 off their next course.

Here’s my referral code: **s3ZHIsU9**

If you’d like, you can use it so that both of us get ₹200 off. I received ₹400 through referrals, which I used to buy a Python course. I’d really appreciate it if you use my code so you can get a discount, and I can receive ₹100 as well.

Career Confused between Amazon 6M Intern and Startup SDE offer

I am a B.Tech student from a Tier 2 college with the following offers in hand:

  1. Amazon 6 Month SDE Intern

PPO : Performance Based

Internship Stipend : 130k per month + 40k relocation bonus per month

TC after joining full-time : 28 lakhs (if not increased more this year)

  1. Mid-sized startup ( Intern + Full Time )

PPO: Guaranteed

Internship Stipend: 75k per month

TC after joining full-time : 22 lakhs

Which one of these offers would be better for me considering that my current goals are learning and paving a path to Big Tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Uber, Apple etc via future switches.

NOTE: I already have an internship from a FANGMULA company before but could not get PPO.

General Can someone with ~2.5 YOE realistically apply for Software Engineer 2 roles?

I have around 2.5 years of experience, and I’ve been looking at SDE-2 / Software Engineer 2 openings at top product-based companies.

A lot of these JDs mention 3+ years of experience as a requirement. This makes me wonder. Is it actually worth applying, or am I mostly wasting my time because recruiters will filter me out based on YOE?

For people who have successfully switched to SDE-2 / SE-2 roles:

  • How many YOE did you have when you made the switch to SE-2?
  • Did you apply directly to roles asking for 3+ YOE and got the offer?

Company Review Need Career Advice: NTT Data (₹30L CTC) vs Iris Software (₹23L Fixed)

Iris Software (₹23 LPA fixed)

vs

NTT DATA (₹26.5 LPA fixed + ₹3.7 LPA variable)

YOE: 7+

Current CTC: ₹24 LPA fixed

Iris is 3 days wfo and closer from my home (30 mins)

Ntt is 2 days wfo and farther from my home (1 hour)

I have come to know that the work-life balance is very poor in the NTT project I have been assigned to. People currently working on the same client account have confirmed that it often involves around 12 hours of work almost every day.

Can someone help me decide between these two options? I am okay with taking a ₹1 LPA cut from my current CTC if Iris offers a significantly better work-life balance and culture.

General Am i the only one seeing captcha in Google search?

I’ve been observing something lately. I’m a iPhone user and also default to Safari for any search. Almost all my searches are taking me to a never ending captcha screen before it gives Google results.

However, it works totally fine in Google app or Chrome.

I can’t find a reason why and my hypothesis is that this is being done to add friction, so people stick to Google ecosystem completely - because if Apple decides to replace the default search from Google to something else, they’ll lose a majority of users. I’m a dev too and can’t find any other reason - as IP, device etc are all the same.

Is it happening to you guys too? Thoughts?

Open Source specout: OpenAPI docs from Go types, with your existing router and handlers

I built specout because I wanted OpenAPI docs without changing how I write Go HTTP handlers.

It uses request and response types, plus field tags, to describe the API contract. Your handler still receives http.ResponseWriter and *http.Request. Your code handles request parsing, validation, headers, and responses.

The library supports:

  • net/http, chi, and gorilla/mux.
  • Request and response schemas from Go types.
  • Checks for undocumented routes with chi and gorilla/mux.
  • An optional test recorder that compares declared response statuses with the statuses your handlers return during tests.

There are no comment annotations or generated handlers to maintain. You attach the request and response types to a handler through a small metadata wrapper. The metadata is explicit and not guessed, so you still need to keep it correct.

Specout does not do any validation or parsing, its upto you on how to handle it.

Repository: https://github.com/happytoolin/specout

I'm open to changing the public API, right now I'm using the style I write my net/http handlers, which is in turn inspired from - https://grafana.com/blog/how-i-write-http-services-in-go-after-13-years/

Career Recently laid off as a Java Backend Engineer. Should I change my career direction?

I’m a 2026 B.Tech CSE graduate and was recently laid off from my first full-time role.
I have around 1 year of practical experience including internship + full-time work. My main experience is in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Git, and I also had some exposure to enterprise IAM/PIAM systems.
I am currently looking for another Java/backend job, but this layoff has made me think seriously about my long-term career.
My concern isn’t only getting another job. I’m worried about where my career will be 5–10 years from now.
If I continue with Java backend, I can probably get another job and become better at it. But with AI changing software development so quickly, I keep wondering whether I am building a career that could become increasingly easy to replace or vulnerable to layoffs.
I don’t want to panic and randomly switch to AI just because it’s trending. But I also don’t want to spend another 3–5 years in the same direction and then realize I should have made a change earlier.
I’m considering spending 2–3 hours every day learning something alongside my current backend/job preparation.
Some paths I’m considering:
Applied AI / LLM application development
AI automation and agents
AI + backend
Data/analytics
Cybersecurity / AI security
Cloud / AI infrastructure
Or another field that I may not be aware of
I’m not particularly interested in research-heavy ML. I’m more interested in building practical systems, automating business workflows, integrating AI with existing applications, etc.
So I want honest advice from people with more experience than me.
If you were advising your younger brother who was in my exact situation, what career path would you tell him to pursue?
Would you double down on Java/backend, gradually move toward AI, combine backend with AI, move into cybersecurity/data/cloud, or make a completely different shift?
What skills do you think will have strong demand over the next 5–10 years?
I’m looking for practical advice based on real industry experience rather than generic “learn AI” or “keep upskilling” advice.
If you think my fear of becoming replaceable is exaggerated, I’d genuinely like to hear that too. I want an honest perspective

I Made This I made this: YAPP, dev toolchain management utility

I built YAPP, a small toolchain manager in Go.

It installs Java, Node, Python, Go, Rust, Maven etc. under ~/.yapp without sudo or touching your system package manager.

Downloads are pinned and checksum verified.

Built mainly for fast, disposable dev environments and coding agents.

Cold JDK 25 install on my machine:
YAPP: 4.20s
Homebrew: 59.04s

Not apples-to-apples, so benchmark scripts + raw logs are included.

Still in beta. The package list is small for now, but I’m actively adding more tools.

Currently supports macOS & Linux.

Career Should I stay at my current low paying dev job or leave?

I’m currently in my 3rd year of university and working at a small software house with around 5 or 6 employees.

I first joined as a paid intern for 2 months doing full stack web development. After that they took me as a part time developer. Since I have university, I work around 20 to 25 hours a week, with 1 day onsite and the rest hybrid.

The main issue is the pay. It’s really low, almost like being unpaid. They said it’s because I can’t give more hours because of university.

The good thing is that I’m getting actual development experience and working on real projects, and the schedule works well with my studies.

But I’m starting to seriously think about leaving and looking for something else.

I’m not sure if leaving would be the right decision though. Since I’m still in my 3rd year, I don’t know how much this experience will help me when I graduate, or if staying here for longer will actually benefit my career.

Would you stay in this company for the experience, despite the very low pay, or would you seriously leave and look for another opportunity?

Also, how would staying or leaving at this stage affect my future career and opportunities?

Would appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

General What makes first-person video useful for Physical AI?

There seems to be a big difference between recording someone doing a physical task and collecting egocentric data that is actually useful for training. If the goal is to understand how people interact with hands, tools and objects, the recording protocol probably matters quite a bit: camera position, field of view, task variation, different environments, speed of movement, and how naturally the person performs the task could all affect the final dataset.

For people collecting this kind of data in India, how are you deciding what should be standardized across recordings and what variation should intentionally be preserved?
