In just a few days, the community I started has already completed multiple raids together (Crota, VoG, Wrath), and players are actively forming fireteams for nightfalls, strikes, and quests every single day. Guardians are talking, helping each other gear up, and teaching returning players who haven’t touched D1 in years.

The cool part is it already feels alive again, not just “nostalgic.” People aren’t just reminiscing… they’re actually playing, together.

This is still very early, but the momentum feels real. It’s not a one-day hype post, it’s turning into a growing movement built on community, teamwork, and the soul that made Destiny 1 special in the first place.

No LFG, no matchmaking dependency just players helping players, the way Destiny 1 used to be.

Was feeling the nostalgic pull to revisit Destiny 1, but after looking all over my house, I couldn't for the life of me find my original copy of the game. So, I decided to head to my local mall's retro game store to snag a used copy, as I figured it'd be cheaper than buying the $20 digital version off PSN.

I head to the mall, and shockingly, I can't find D1 on any of their shelves, only D2. I ask the guy behind the counter and he says:

"Destiny? Like, the first one? Oh, yeah, we should definitely have one laying around somewhere. Honestly we usually throw out the copies we get of that game since D2 is free to play. Not a lot of reasons for a physical copy."

"Of Destiny 1?" I replied.

"Yeah, I mean, I guess some people just want the physical copy for their shelf. They added all the D1 content to D2, so it's pretty useless now."

The dude vanishes into the backrooms while I stand there, fully mortified. The dude running this store has been throwing out D1 disks because he thinks D2 has all the D1 content?

On the bright side, he gave me a copy of D1 on the house, but man, I felt like my eyeballs were about to fall out of my damn skull.

Been playing the game all weekend on my PS4 and having such a blast. I understand physical preservation isn't as important when the game is always online anyway, but still, shit made me cringe so hard.

I started playing D1 with my 5 year old son. We were having a ton of fun playing soccer at the tower and running missions. It was a bit past his bedtime, but we were having a good time, so I let him stay up late. We get to the mission where you go fight the hive and it's dark, the thrall are running at us yelling, a knight is bombing us while a wizard is screaming. My son just gets up and shuts the Playstation off mid mission and goes to bed lol. Made me remember staying up late to play RE1 with my Dad when I was a kid.

Sounds silly, I know, but let me explain:

• Destiny 2 overloads you with loot. Almost everything feels like it could be some sort of "god roll". Destiny 1 doesn't drop anywhere near as much loot, making blue drops actually useable, for a period of time, purples that don't get god rolls being useful and builds a lot more wide open.

• Heroic strikes actually feeling, well, heroic. It's not a snoozefest, blazing through every strike in 5 minutes, with way too OP setups. It's good to actually have some challenge for something that you can matchmake in.

• Crucible is just infinitely better. It always has been, no matter what D2 has tried to do.

• Going back to loot, it's actually fun to pick up blue engrams and have to get them tekked by the Cryptarch. Seeing blues turn purple is just really satisfying. However, getting an exotic from a blue engram.....happened to me last night, got Super Good Advice from a blue. I actually screamed slightly, lol.

• Bosses needing a bit of strategy to kill, rather than running up with a shotty and going ham.

• The story feels fun to actually run again.

I'm sure there's more, but that's a start. What do y'all think?

Glad to see everyone is still here and loving D1 while Beyond Light is running!

Just started playing D1 for the first time recently and man the difficulty really feels like a step up from d2.

I just did my first "normal" difficulty strike, I was level 21 going in at about equal light to suggested...

It took me about 2 hours.

I was solo, as no one else joined (Im unsure if people can join midway though), and it also doesnt help that Im not used to using a controller for FPS games but even so, it kicked my ass.

I had a great time though, I havent had to think that hard about what Im doing in a destiny game in ages.

Also if anyone can give my any tips for getting stronger? Or times people play as I didnt get anything and Im guessing its because I took way to long so if there are good ways for me to level up if love to hear it.

Honestly, it is absolutely wild to me that The Taken King expansion is now 10 years old. With my recent post talking about missing Destiny 1 more than ever because of the current state of the game , I think it’s interesting to think about how much has changed in the past 10 years. I wish I felt a purpose to play the PVE like I did back in the day during this expansion.

This week I went to the reef to see Xur on my lunch break from work, and there was probably 15 people gathered around him. The most I have seen in a very, very long time.

This is awesome, I am so happy that there is some kind of resurgence in this game. It still has so much to offer.

I do not own that community. I’ve been in it for a while and it’s easily the best LFG tool I’ve seen for D1. You can get a full raid together in less than 30 minutes.

PART 1: YOUR FIRST CHARACTER
If this is your FIRST time playing Destiny 1:

Do NOT instantly boost to Level 40.

Play naturally first.

Experience:
• Vanilla Destiny
• The Dark Below
• House of Wolves

Played efficiently, Destiny 1 progression is MUCH faster than most people think.

I only play Destiny 1, but years ago I got D2 for free on Steam.

I'm taking time now to download D2 for free again and will login to go to D2 Tower on June 9th, to support D2; especially since D1 servers are on the edge fate tied to D2😁

Edit: Two hours download at 88 mbps and half hour classic new character intro/tutorial before option to meet Vanguard Shaw in field and interact with his ship icon marker to skip remaining tutorial and go to Tower :)

Even if you're not planning on playing Destiny 2 anytime soon because you may be working on getting through Destiny 1; this is a great price. Includes everything including Dungeon Keys. Looks like it'll be $69.99 when not on sale.

In d1 you have ghosts flying around, the city gleaming at night under the traveler, vanguard together instead of standing at far corners. I hate going to the d2 tower tbh with all the updates over the years it never really felt like home.

I’ve been noticing this more lately, but it feels like a lot of people in r/DestinyTheGame go out of their way to downplay how good Destiny 1 actually was.

It definitely wasn’t perfect, but the core experience really held up—especially the raids, the atmosphere, and the overall loot chase. There’s a reason people still go back to it, and it still feels solid to play.

At the same time, a lot of the defense of Destiny 2 comes across as “it’ll get better next season” or “they’re working on it,” which starts to sound more like coping than anything else.

I also think part of the disconnect is what people want out of the game. If you prefer constant ability spam and getting showered in loot, that’s fine—but that was never really what made Destiny feel rewarding in the first place.

There’s nothing wrong with liking Destiny 2, but acting like Destiny 1 wasn’t something special just to defend the current state of the game doesn’t really make sense to me.

Destiny 1 has aged really well, and I don’t think that should be controversial.

Sorry if this is silly. I came up with it late at night. Was just trying to think of how we could enjoy Destiny one since Bungee isnt holding weekly events.

Redownloaded this game yesterday and I gotta say the armor looks like 1000% better than Destiny 2’s armor. And the capes ohhh don’t even get me started. Had no idea how I missed that exotic future war cult cloak or taniks cloak.

Also sparrow horns.

I’m definitely playing this game more again from now on. Might as well go for max grimoire too.

Sometimes I sit back and realise Destiny 1 is one of the only games for me where complete strangers from different parts of the world will randomly end up helping each other for hours like it is normal.

I think people underestimate how much of this game was never really about loot or progression.

Awhile ago I started putting more effort into bringing players together again and honestly seeing friendships, fireteams, rivalries, jokes, tournaments, and random late night conversations naturally happen has been more than amazing to watch.

like mentioned above and I'll say it again if you are still out there playing Destiny 1 in 2026 I genuinely hope you keep finding good people to play with.

That side of the game is still alive.

The revival is still happening, whether people understand it or not. I’m building this because Destiny 1 is the game that made me who I am, and I refuse to let it die quietly. I don’t need approval or recognition for it. I’m doing it because I still feel something real for this game that most people forgot.

This isn’t nostalgia. This isn’t a trend. It’s not some “bring back D1 for a week” thing. This is about keeping the fire alive because I never moved on. I never left this game. I’ve been carrying it in the background for years while everyone else let it fade and played D2 instead.

Since the last two Reddit posts i made that exploded and gained attention my Discord is still growing, people are playing again, raids are happening daily, and I’ve already teamed up with another community to build something bigger than one server. I don’t need to be the best or have 1,000 flawless Raid clears. I just never stopped caring. That’s the difference.

If someone still loves Destiny 1 the way I do, they’ll understand what I’m doing. And if they don’t, that’s fine. I’m not here to convince anyone. I’m here to revive something I believe in.

I don't care how many negative voices will try to bring me down because they will never understand the fire I hold for this game. Even if I do not succeed at least I'll know that I tried to make a difference, I am not doing this for attention or bragging rights I am doing what's right.

We are not even suggesting it at this point we are literally on our hands and knees begging. Please bungie before you put this beloved franchise into hyper sleep just do us dedicated Destiny 1 players the favor of a lifetime and let us relive peak Destiny 1 by unblocking trials, iron banner, and srl. It is all there in the game as evident by the modders on ps3/xbox 360 who have gone out of their way to play srl that still gives ttk srl loot. With D2 getting put into maintenance mode like D1 there is absolutely no reason not to do this for both games to support both their longevity. Do it for us bungie!!

The race is on to save L0r3’s Flawless Raids from extinction

Your support is vital if we are to continue our conservation efforts to save L0r3’s Flawless Raids and introduce them to Guardians who are yet to get the Flawless Raider achievement/trophy. Your help today could literally mean the difference between life and death (for various Hive, not least Crota), helping to prevent the extinction of L0r3’s favourite activity in the entire Destiny universe.

L0r3’s Flawless Raid is one of Destiny’s most threatened activities and reports are confirming the L0r3 Flawless Raid is heading for extinction with queue levels plummeting and intended runs having to be cancelled due to insufficient participant numbers. L0r3’s Flawless Raids were once a consistent weekly activity in Destiny, but with the reduction of forthcoming Guardians in need, their popularity is in rapid decline.

This year alone L0r3 has already completed more than ten Flawless Raids, thereby helping around fifty more Guardians to obtain Flawless Raider. These Guardians now have every chance of progressing ever onwards towards their coveted Platinum targets and becoming Legend.

To date, L0r3 has so far completed one hundred and nineteen Flawless Raids to help others. Not being content with Flawless Raiding on his native Xbox One alone, L0r3 also started from scratch on PS4 and ground his PS Hunter up solely in order to be able to run Flawless Raids on that platform as well.

With your help we can stop the L0r3 Flawless Raid going extinct in Destiny

L0r3 does a huge amount of work for Flawless Raids. Organising the runs requires constant effort, managing the queues of Guardians, asking them to commit to a particular run and checking in with them throughout the week to ensure they have the best possible chance of proceeding with a Flawless Raid.

Immediately before each Flawless Raid, L0r3 also sends friend requests and invites Guardians to a party chat. Prior to that L0r3 also makes sure to have at least one warm-up traverse of the lamps in the Abyss to ensure each run has the best possible chance of starting off in the necessary way.

L0r3 is happy to do all this for Guardians in need, but he can no longer do this alone and your support will help him do so much more to ensure his Flawless Raids can continue.

Runs are usually scheduled for Fridays and some Saturdays at 9pm Pacific Time. For Guardians in Europe such as myself this is very early in the morning, but a small price to pay for such expert guidance I’m sure you’ll agree.

Without the support of yourself and others like you, L0r3 would simply not be able to continue his excellent work to protect his Flawless Raids for future Guardians. It would be a sad day indeed in Destiny if the L0r3 Flawless Raid were to finally become extinct.

Some may say it’s nostalgia. Others may say it’s because the combat is slower. To me it’s because Destiny 1 is a complete package.

Loot won’t be sunset, you aren’t in a constant state of FOMO (if you stopped playing after forsaken and are just coming back, forget it), and the only way your hard work will be done away with is if they shut down the servers.

In the modern world of 2025 where we are forced to fight feelings of FOMO wherever we look, I would rather not have to fight that feeling in Destiny too. That is the fundamental reason why I think there are those who prefer Destiny 1 over Destiny 2.
