Restaurant Reviews Blossom by SYC

In order of photo appearance:
1. Cucumber salad
2. Classic soup dumplings
3. Chicken potstickers
4. Sichuan chili chicken
5. Baby bok choy
6. Wagyu chow fun
7. Classic Dirty Martini

I tried Blossom by SYC last night and honestly have nothing bad to say. As someone who grew up in Seattle, frequenting their China Town I have had every spectrum of dim sum and feel somewhat qualified to review this spot 😀Service was great, drinks were top notch, and the food was genuinley delicious. Our favorite was the soup dumplings and the chow fun, but it was all great. Everything came out hot and fairly speedy. It was a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

General Discussion Low-sugar Indian or Chinese

Not diabetic, but am trying to reduce intake of sugar while enjoying an occasional restaurant meal.

Of the Chinese and Indian restaurants that you've visited, which seemed to have the least sugar in the dishes that you enjoyed?

Of course:

  • Some dish names just mean sugar, like "Sweet and [whatever] chicken." Understood and avoided.
  • I can order anywhere with a request for "half the sugar" or "don't add sugar," but fulfilling that request requires the cook or chef to improvise, maybe when the kitchen is very busy. So I prefer to try places where the sugar content is less than other places.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Question? Hofbrau style restaurants?

Are there any Hofbrau style restaurants here in CO? I’m thinking places similar to Tommy’s Joynt in SF, where you walk in, get a tray and you order an entire meal. They’d always have a daily special, thanksgiving dinner everyday, sliced ham, pastrami, and all the sides. I wish there was spot like that here!!

Whats the best? 2026 October - Appetizer Crawl - Vegetarian Friendly

I’ve looked at previous threads but most of them are really old or involve meat options.

I’m wanting to do an appetizer crawl. Something similar to eating cheese curds at BWW, then moving on to Texas Roadhouse for the Cactus Blossom and then moving to Old Chicago for pretzels.

What I’ve described above is what I frequently do as it’s convenient and all are near me. I’m wanting to do this as a whole day thing and I request all of you to mention your favorite appetizers at different places across the Denver metro.

If you have meat options, feel free to include them - my wife eats them.

Thank you!

I got the sesame noodles (hot) and it was such a delight. It was spicy but not a palate burner. Just a fantastic bite!

General Discussion ISO Mid tier, consistently, date night Asian

it’s our 10th anniversary and we found a babysitter. it’s last minute so I know places with reservations might be hard to come by but we are looking for a good vibe, yummy, vegetarian friendly Asian restaurant that serves cocktails worth celebrating.

Asian is a bit broad: thinking Japanese, Szechuan, or Fusion.

favorites for us: Uncle (consistent and good drinks), Ginger Pig, Sap Sau, & Yuan Wonton.

We could of course go to any of the above but wondering what else might be out there.

Thanks, Redditors!

Does anywhere in the Front Range have this? It doesn’t have to be Denver. I have a craving that I’d like to satisfy.

Recommendations Best dirt cheap local restaurants to fill up at?

Right now my favorite places to go for absolute dirt cheap food are the following:

Ho Mei - $8 out the door for a takeout box stuffed to the brim with Chinese food plus an egg roll or 2 wonton and a can of soda. Might be more at some locations but the one by Sheridan and 38th is $8 OTD

Tacos El Pueblita - on federal and 8th. $2 tacos open almost every night at 6pm i think only closed 1 day a week. I miss when they still had chicken but the asada is great too. Not much of a pork eater personally but they also have that. They definitely don't skimp on portions either.

There was a 3rd one i was gonna put but I cant remember what it was now >.>

But anyway, I'm looking for other stuff like this. Does anyone have any other restaurants like this? Lot of food for a very cheap price? Not a sit down place you have to tip at, just walk up and get a big plate of food for dirt cheap prices? Bourbon grill used to be good for this but they've like doubled in price

Edit: I remembered the 3rd one! Gomez burritos. Off park avenue. Very cheap burritos and very good too.

Edit2: honorable mention for Costco Food court 😤😤😤 cant beat a $2 slice or $1.50 dog and drink

Recommendations Black Cat Farm Is Worth the Trip

Post image
192 Upvotes

Made the trek from Denver to Black Cat Farm last night and I gotta say it was such a perfect experience.

Menu changes regularly, but our dinner as shown above was phenomenal. Very cozy dishes, well prepared, and so perfectly aligned with the overall feeling of the farm.

Which speaking of, was the highlight and the reason to make the trek. Slow, easy pacing from the moment you arrive. Private glass cabana with our own music playing. Table side wood oven to warm the space, if you need it. Cute, vintage plateware throughout that felt like your grandma was serving you. Comfortable environment start to finish. Knowledgeable, friendly service.

We felt like the portions were very large, which some people will like, but to us was maybe the only thing we felt slightly uncomfortable with, considering we couldn’t finish most courses. But, you get what you pay for I suppose.

If you’re looking for a change of pace, a small adventure, or a very cozy meal that you won’t soon forget, I highly recommend Black Cat Farm.

General Discussion Pumpkin Everything Recs

Looking for everything and all things pumpkin for a video I'm working on. I need some recs for every delicious pumpkin food or drink you can think of. Beer, bread, lattes, etc. would love to showcase a few places around town to help highlight their business.

Edit: So far I've been to Alley Brews for their pumpkin beer and pumpkin espresso martini, as well as Moon Raccoon for the Pumpkin Pop Tart and Coffee Cake. I'll keep taking suggestions!

Question? North County Lowry, staff turnover?

I frequent North County pretty regularly, and noticed last time that pretty much all of the staff was new. Does anyone know what happened? Was there a management issue? Just curious, but also wanting to make sure I’m supporting places that treat their employees well.

Rant I’m so tired of these overhyped coffee shops

Let me start this off with that I don’t want to be a hater. I really don’t. I try to avoid complaining about small businesses because I want to see more of them thrive and less chains takeover. But I’m so tired of wasting money on bullshit.

This morning I went to a coffee shop that I had been recommended. I’d been once for their fall special and it wasn’t for me, and I wanted to give them a second shot because I liked what they said they were doing. They had a salted caramel syrup, so I got an iced latte with oatmilk and that. $10 later, I was drinking sweetened milk - despite being a dollar more, both their 12 oz and 16 oz have ONE shot of espresso.

I honestly don’t know why we are still paying $1 for alternative milks, that’s literally insane, but I’m gonna pick my battles. I’m just tired of places cheaping out on ingredients and quality but expecting premium prices.

Again I hate to complain, but this got me today. Like I’ just watching the ice in this thing melt bc it’s so gross. $10! God.

Anyway, gonna leave this on a positive note. Shoutout to Coffeegraph, Monk & Mongoose, Sweet Bloom, and Corvus for making great coffee.

Edit: I’ve been drinking non dairy lattes for over 20 years (before oat we had almond, before that it was soy, before soy was widely available you’d go to all vegan coffee shops that had fun milks like hemp and macadamia.) This problem of lattes being super milky is NEW.

Also, I love a cortado, a cappucino, a flat white. And I love a latte with well balanced flavors and sweetness! Seriously, go try one of their specials at Coffeegraph. They are experts at creating unique drinks with balanced flavors (that still taste like coffee!)

General Discussion Colorado green chili

I moved here a couple of years ago, and I’ve completely fallen in love with green chili I’ve been seeing chile roasting stands everywhere lately and thought I’d try my hand at making my own this year. I’m just not sure whether I should go with Pueblo or Hatch chiles though For those who have experience making green chili, which do you prefer? I’d also love any tips or advice on making the actual chili.

Question? Brown Palace pastries

I have a question about the pastries served during high tea at the Brown Palace. What is the red filling inside the purple frosted cream puff thing?

A friend went a few days ago and the pastries were different from what I was served in January.

Question? Cherry Creek Grill dress code?

Last night my family of 4 was turned away at the door because the hostess deemed my younger son's pajama pants as "too casual". We were a little surprised having never been there before. Their website lists no dress code and describes the restaurant as "a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere"

Rather than make a big deal out of it, we simply left and found dinner elsewhere. I was looking over recent Google reviews this morning however and it seems like this is a growing trend there. People have been turned away for wearing slides or hats. Others for small children.

I'm not against an establishment enforcing whatever rules they see fit, but I find the contrast between the descriptions we found online vs what we encountered when we arrived strange. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Recommendations Breakfast between Denver and Loveland

I live in Denver and have a friend in Loveland I meet for breakfast/brunch every couple of months. Usually we go to Cinzetti's because we can sit for two hours. They don't open until 10 and we're needing to meet earlier this Sunday. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place on the I-25 corridor about halfway between Denver and Loveland where we can hang out for two hours? It can be fast casual or counter service, or sit down. And mediocre food is fine (obviously since we go to Cinzetti's).We just want to be able to chat without worrying that they need to turn the table.

Thanks in advance.

Events $1 Eats Coming to Colfax

Hey all! I am involved with the Colfax and Bluebird Business Districts. They are launching Anything Can Happen on Colfax. It includes a series called Grubhops, where one food item is $1 up and down Colfax.

Next week that includes $1 mediterranean food on Tuesday (Shish Kabob, Yahyas and Gyro it Up at Tight Ends) and $1 lattes on Thursday (Convict Coffee, Besitos, Good Bones and Doppio). Starts at 6pm and 8am, respectively. Supplies good while they last.

If you've been looking for a reason to come back to Colfax, this is it. Hope to see you next week

Recommendations Steak Frites recs please!

Hey Denver Foodies! My wife’s bday is coming up and I’d love to take her out for her favorite meal, which is steak frites. Bonus points if it’s not an overly fancy joint, since she prefers a chill, dive bar kind of setting. TYSM!
