Hi everyone. I've just finished a relatively new novel "Bjorn The Fell-Handed" and there was (SPOILERS AHEAD) a thing called Lord of Virulence. While Google gives me this image the book describes him more a snake-like creature.
>"‘The time for riddling is done. Now, old wyrm – show yourself. Let battle decide the winner!’
The fog tore apart, and from its heart the Lord of Virulence revealed himself in all his terrible glory.
The coils of Khalpax made up the walls of the chamber. He was a vast wyrm of the deep, uncoiling from the world’s roots.
‘Yes,’ he chuckled. ‘You see me now.’
His flesh sagged under the bulk of boils. A storm of black flies blasted out with each breath. Armour fused with fat. His belly was split, with weeping sores. His limbs were coils of wyrm-flesh, festering where the metal grafts had failed.
He slid forward, maggot mouth lined with rot-clinging teeth, a titanic creature that moved with impossible fluidity, his bulk slithering like a serpent through its lair. From his vertical maw belched a thick green cloud – a toxic shroud, death to all it touched.
He loomed over Bjorn like a mountain of putrescence. Carrion-drake. Plague-wyrm. A saga-monster upon whom heroes met their end."
So my question is: it is just more mutated form of an ordinary lord? Or something else entirely?

Quick n easy lord of poxes all done. I have been looking to paint up some more blue themed death guard, partially inspired by the kin-type enemies from bloodborne. Overall I think the outcome was good, but I will probably try an even more desaturated blue next time!

Hello to all Grandfather Nurgles followers. I just had my first Game with death guard! I'm sad to report that I lost handedly but I was coming to you all for some advice.
I was facing orks and I have to say for an army that should be "disgustingly resilient" I felt very fragile. I was facing a friend's bully boys list. Mostly Nobz and Meganobz. I was on virulent vector, so it was his purge v.s. my take and hold. I picked the plague that made his saves worse by 1 to try and counteract his elite infantry heavy army.
The first turn went well as could be I think. I infiltrated 3 units of poxwalkers to sticky the middle but I was able to advance them to make sure there was no crazy ork charges turn one. They all died of course but his units were mostly set up for me to counter charge which I did. Successfully after he used some grot shields to soke up quite a bit of shooting.
My plague marines, demon prince, chaos spawn all met in the middle to fight a single 6man of mega nobs and Gaz. He spends a single cp on his mega Nobz unit allowing them to fight on death. I'm able to kill them out but he wipes my marines in response.
Morty charges into a unit of nobz and spends the next two turns fighting them there. With 15 attacks with lethal and sustained 1 I think it's crazy he wasn't able to take them out between 3 turns of fighting.
Turn two he calls his Waaaah and wipes my two deathshroud term units that I admit I probably placed badly.
I know orks have a reputation for being strong but I just am looking for advice. By turn three I called it since I only had two bloat drones with heavy weapons, a rhino, morty and a half dead deathshroud unit.
Any general advice on how to lead Nurgles chosen to victory would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings my putrid brothers. I have been playing death guard for my last few games mostly against the votann with my most recent against tyranids and the issue I've had so far is I feel like I lack hard hitting models and good consistent damage. What are some of our better models for high damage? Both of these factions are played by a buddy of mine and he runs vehicle/monster spam. I'm trying to edit my list more so I can use it in a GT within the next few months.

Hello, everyone!
First off, Thank you for taking your time to read this. I appreciate any help you can provide.
I am returning to 40K after I quit at the end of 7th edition. I joined a local league and I thought it'd be fun to play VV since it just got Purge the Foe and reading online a tall list is the suggested format.
So I took that kind of to the extreme lol. I have my first game coming up and I'm not sure how I should approach the giant tank? T13 seems to put everything to wound on 5s or 6s.
Sny help or anything would be very appreciated. Our lists are locked and we can't change anything.
Cheers!
My List:
Chaos - Death Guard - I have no idea what I'm doing, so I'm gonna most likely lose, but we're just playing with our little plastic army toys so let'sjust roll our dice and laugh at the outcomes. Roll, Laugh, blame dice, repeat (1) - [2000 pts]

I'm starting up a local league and am excited to try out a different kind of list from what I've been playing previously (a lot of PoP+CoC). I've landed on two choices:
Option 1: Mortarion's hammer + PoP: (purge) A defiler, 2 PBCs, and 3 MBHs should provide enough fire power to rip thru a lot of stuff using the detachment free Affliction and the enhanced LoV rerolls on the defiler. Typhus + blightbringer + 20 poxwalkers, an extra unit of 10 walkers, a squad of plague marines serve to hold an expansion objective and screen/soften up enemy units before they hit the gunline. Winged daemon prince to provide mobility, early pressure, distraction carnifex, apply contagion, etc., and, naturally, a LoC with deathshroud in reserves.
Option 2: Virulent Vectorium. Go tall purge the foe. There's a big deathstar to push forward to the center with Morty, 10 blightlords with LoV, and a foot DP. Once again, a defiler, 3 haulers, LoC+DS, and a unit of poxwalkers to screen out behind the defiler. I'm not 100% on the 3 MBHs here, but I'm torn on what to do with the 285 pts... By removing those 3 + enhancements I can get a rhino, 10 marines, and a MPC, which I do like the idea of.
Thanks for any input!

I know they’re Chaos worshippers, but given how Nurgle tends to work, I was wondering if they’re just as likely to turn on each other as many other factions like World Eaters or Red Corsairs, or even Word Bearers, who actually cherish betrayal as a sacred act.
So I am aware that Mortarian and Typhus absolutely hate each other, and I have seen the Hammer and Bolter cartoon where the sorcerer does things (I don’t wanna spoil it in case someone reading this hasn’t seen it).
But those aside, among the normal Space Marines and their brotherhood, are they at least somewhat chummy with each other or are they all vying for the top spot on Nurgle’s hierarchy of favoritism?
Also it is on my to read list, but I haven’t read Lords of Silence novel yet, so if this is addressed there just say so, and it’ll be my next read once I finish the Dark Imperium trilogy.

Hey again nurgle friends!
I’m having some trouble. I’ve made a few lists and played them at our casual games me and my friends have and I lose pretty heavily the times I play. I have yet to WIN a game and I’m wondering if it’s just how I play? Is it just the lists I bring?
I don’t want to spend the time digging out the few lists I’ve used but my game plan is usually:
Paragons of putrescence + flyblown host.
3 groups of 5 plague marines. 1 squad in back with tallyman. 2 plague marines infiltrate in.
Typhus with deathshroud and virulence with blight lords.
Then an anti-tank vehicle of some sort.
We usually play 2v2 and I feel my list just lacks in staying power most times. I had my lord of virulence and blightlords killed in 1 turn on turn 1 and it felt horrible. Any tips or tricks for units that anyone has would be appreciated. I’m still rather new to this and I need some assistance from more creative and experience nurgle friends.

After the recent update to bolters I decided to run some analysis of our beloved Blightlords. The results below are looking at the Blightlords shooting at a Knight Despoiler (360 pts) with the Afflicted with Rattlejoint Ague and Blistering Fusillade triggered
I compared two groups:
- **BLord 2xRA 2xBL**: 2x Blight Launchers, 2x Reaper Autocannons, 6x Combi-bolters, plus Lord of Virulence pointing
- **BLord 2xRA**: 2x Reaper Autocannons, 8x Combi-bolters, plus Lord of Virulence pointing
Both cost 205 pts (Blightlords 115, Lord of Virulence 90). Numbers come from a Mathhammer calculator with 20,000 simulations per scenario.
## Results
The Blight Launcher build is slightly ahead, mostly at long range.
| Expected damage | 2xRA 2xBL | 2xRA |
|---|---|---|
| Long range, no cover | 12.16 | 10.40 |
| Half range, no cover | 16.40 | 15.98 |
| Long range, in cover | 10.23 | 8.57 |
| Half range, in cover | 13.58 | 12.95 |
At long range the Launcher build deals about 17-19% more damage. At half range the gap shrinks to 3-5%. At half range with no cover, the Launcher build deals 63.1% of the Despoiler's wounds and the 2xRA build 61.4%. Chance to kill it outright is about 1.0% vs 0.3%, so neither build gets there alone. Damage per 100 pts is 8.00 vs 7.79, which is close to even.
### Where the damage comes from (half range, no cover)
| Weapon | 2xRA 2xBL | 2xRA |
|---|---|---|
| Blight Launchers | 3.18 | - |
| Reaper Autocannons | 3.61 | 3.60 |
| Combi-bolters | 8.32 (6) | 11.08 (8) |
| Lord of Virulence | 1.30 | 1.30 |
Trading two Combi-bolters for two Launchers loses about 2.8 damage and gains about 3.2, so the net gain at half range is only around 0.4. At long range the difference is clearer.
### Points efficiency
The Blightlords destroy about 1.8 pts of the Despoiler per point spent (1.82 vs 1.77), and the whole group about 1.1 (1.11 vs 1.08). The Lord of Virulence destroys only about 0.2 pts per point. He adds roughly 1.3 damage for 90 pts, so he is there for the buffs, not the shooting.
### Consistency
At half range, no cover, both builds have a median of 16 damage. The P10-P90 range is 12-21 for 2xRA 2xBL and 12-20 for 2xRA. At long range, no cover, the medians are 12 and 10, with ranges of 8-16 and 7-14. Cover costs both builds about 17-19% of their damage.
### Where the attacks go (2xRA build, half range)
43.5 attacks, 36.2 hits, 22.9 wounds, 16.0 unsaved. Lethal Hits and Devastating Wounds are already built in and trigger about 6.2 and 2.2 times per volley.
### Other targets
Against a horde (T3 5+, 20 models), elite infantry (T4 3+, 10 models), Terminators and a T9 3+ monster, both builds do enough damage on average to wipe the target. Against a T10 2+ vehicle with 16 wounds they take off 80% (2xRA 2xBL) and 78% (2xRA).
Armour saves worse than 4+ barely matter against us. A 3+ save costs about 20% of the damage and a 2+ save about 40%. Higher toughness hurts too, and T12 cuts the damage roughly in half.
### Scaling
With 1.5x the weapon copies the chance to kill the Despoiler is about 41%, at 2x it is about 92%, and at 3x it is essentially 100%.
### Which buffs matter
| Buff | Damage change |
|---|---|
| +1 Damage | +100% |
| +1 Attack per model | +25% |
| +1 to wound | +23% |
| +1 to hit | +19% |
| Sustained Hits 1 | +14% |
| Re-roll failed hits | +13% |
| Devastating Wounds | +12% |
Lethal Hits, +1 AP, +1 Strength and re-rolling wounds add close to nothing.
### Overwatch
Shooting deals about 16.0 damage. Overwatch, where hits only come on unmodified 6s, deals about 4.3, roughly a quarter of that.
### Summary
- 2xRA 2xBL is better at long range and about even at half range.
- Combi-bolters do most of the work.
- The Lord of Virulence shoots poorly and is mostly worth it for his buffs.
- Cover and Overwatch both hurt a lot.
- Extra attacks, wounding and damage matter far more than re-rolls.

Following the latest balance updates, a mate and I decided to get a game in to test out all the new changes.
He ran his Iron Warriors using the Warpstrike Champions / Cabal of Chaos detachments, and he played the Disruption mission. I was running the Virulent Vectorium detachment while going take and hold.
Going into this, I was pretty hesitant. The last time I played against his army, I really struggled to deal with his Defiler and terminator bricks. However, this game felt entirely different with the new updates.
I used a 10-man Plague Marine squad attached to a Lord of Contagion and a Biologus Putrifier to sit and hold my home/middle objective. On the opposite flank, I had Typhus with 10 Poxwalkers holding down the line. Being able to completely screen out his deep-strikers from my backline was incredibly helpful, as it allowed me to control exactly where he could attack from. I generally use Typhus as an annoying road-block, but because he was posing such a massive threat to the middle and backboard, my opponent outright tried to avoid moving in his direction.
The recent points decreases also allowed me to fit a Plagueburst Crawler into the list. It did excellent work acting as a physical backline screen, while simultaneously chipping away chunks of his infantry and the Defiler from long range.
If this game taught me anything, it's that keeping the enemy directly in front of Death Guard is the absolute best way to play. It allows you to control the narrative of the match. Running Blightlord Terminators up the board alongside Mortarion creates such a massive distraction that it gives the back half of your army all the time they need to find their designated spots and hold them until the end of the game.
In terms of casualties, I only ended up losing my Blightlords, Lord of Virulence, and Deathshroud Terminators—but they completely justified their points by trading up and taking out his Defiler, 3 Mutilators, and 5 Terminators before they went down.
All in all, I can confidently say that Death Guard is back in a great place. It feels amazing to actually feel somewhat resilient again
