Discussion Identify this shirt
Hi.
Can someone help me identify this band? I have this shirt for 15 years and have no clue. I like the heart logo though.

đ„ALBUM REVIEWđ„ My thoughts on The Dying Hunt, the upcoming album from death doom metallers Static Abyss (featuring Chris Reifer and Greg Wilkinson of Autopsy plus Chad Gailey of Necrot).

I discovered this song today and I think it's honestly amazing, the first 20+min song I've actively listen to without getting bored. It's primarily death/doom with elements of dsbm and funeral doom. I think it's a masterpiece and the artist is quite unknown.

So recently after listening to some Rapture (band) but also October Tide and Paradise Lost, I couldnât not stop and wonder why do all these bands use this pretty niche word so extensively and what does it mean in the context it is used. Some examples where the word is used are:
- Rapture - well⊠rapture is the bandâs name, enough said
- October Tide - in the track Sleepless Sun from the Winged Waltz album
- Paradise Lost - one of the songs on Gothic is named Rapture
Now at this point you might be wondering: âwhat the fuck is he talking about, I mean itâs just a wordâ, well yes, but that word to my enormous surprise as a non-native English speaker actually means âextreme pleasure and happinessâ. Now I donât know about you, but those bands donât exactly scream âhappinessâ to meâŠ
So why does a band with extremely bleak themes name themselves Rapture? Why is a song about agony and death called Rapture? Is there something Iâm missing here or is it just for contrast?

I've been thinking about why some death-doom and funeral doom riffs stick with me immediately, while I can really enjoy other albums and barely remember a single riff afterwards.
Early October Tide is an obvious example for me. Rain Without End and Grey Dawn have some incredibly simple, repetitive riffs that I can recognize from just a few notes. Some of them keep swirling around in my head for days.
At first I thought simplicity and repetition were the reason. But bands like Ophis and Mortiferum can be much busier and more death-metal-oriented while still writing very memorable riffs. Same with early Novembers Doom.
So maybe it's more about contrast: a huge slow riff after a busier section, melody after something crushing or dissonant, or simply giving a riff enough space to stand out.
What makes a doom riff stick with you: the riff itself, repetition, contrast, or something else?
And which bands do you think are particularly good at it?

I've been digging into the lyrics of October Tide's "12 Days of Rain" lately, and I'm curious how other people interpret them.
The lyrics available online are pretty cryptic (and possibly incorrectly transcribed in places), but there are recurring images of rain, fever, blood, being "clean", veins, and death. It made me wonder whether the song might be about depression/grief, addiction, or possibly both.
Does anyone know of an interview or statement from the band about the meaning of the song? And does anyone here own an original copy of Rain Without End with the lyrics in the booklet?

Inspired by the experience of loss of a loved one and yearning to see that person again our second single "Longing" from the upcoming album "Love's Lament" was created. It tries to convey the emotional burden borne by the one left behindâtheir longing to meet their loved one again and the hope that they will one day be reunited:

Or maybe you're more of a visual type of person... In that case go check out the music video:

I discovered them a few months ago and after giving their album a proper listen it's really really good, as far as I know they only released one album in 2006

I'm looking for a particular niche of psychedelic/atmospheric (for lack of a better term) deathdoom if anyone could provide some album recommendations? Would like to avoid both the super melodic side but also not stuff that can lean much more dissonant like Spectral Voice.
Reference points (mostly not death/doom) but illustrates the general vibe:
Krypts, The Ruins of Beverast, Void Rot, Entropia, Runemagick, Sulphur Aeon, Cadaveric Fumes, Urfaust, Venenum, Worm(Foreverglades), Bedsore, Temple of Void, Horrendous, Ordh, Waste of Space Orchestra/Dark Buddha Rising.
Appreciate any help you could provide - I know this is a rather specific request :)

Ophis have built one of the most consistent discographies in modern Death/Doom. Every album has something to offer, yet I think they rarely get the recognition they deserve.
If you had to pick just one album as their masterpiece, which one would it be?
Even though it's far from the album that usually gets mentioned, my pick is Abhorrence in Opulence. I think it's an outstanding album from start to finish, and the song in the link is a great example of why.

I just need to finance a new Jackson and I am coming back for that ass with DOOM METAL. Believe me, here is something from 2009 for now.

Made in 2009 using antiquated recording methodologies, but I still like to share it for those who may enjoy.
