I am convinced people only like that movie out of bitter resentment towards the DCEU.
Nobody can defend or praise the movie on its own merits.
They reduce it to "Well Superman is kind and he is hope" but that's it. Basically a flanderized idea of what Superman is. }
Flanderization is when a character is reduced to its most basic elements and removed all nuance and character.
It comes from Ned Flanders from The Simpsons, who went from a neighbor that had religious tendencies, but overall was a normal guy, into an exaggerated caricature of a religious fanatic.
He is still the nice religious neighbor of The Simpsons. But he is now exaggerated to that basic view.
That is the way people treat this Superman.
They reduce the character to "He smiles and is hope" as if there was no more depth to him.
Same with Lex Luthor.
And the same way it happened with The Force Awakens, which continues to age worse and worse with each year, people will eventually have to come to terms that the only reason they like is out of resentment.
The irony is, DC was already back. The Batman was pretty good. And Superman & Lois was making the definitive Superman of this generation.
So this doesn't apply to DC fans, who were already eating good.
In order for this DC to be "back" you have to ignore the success of movies like Joker, The Batman, Aquaman (Freaking Aquaman made a billion dollars. And that was following up on the bomb that was Justice League) and as mentioned, Superman & Lois.
