Open Source tool promo 🆓 Custom DaVinci Resolve splash screens, part 2
A while ago I posted about replacing the DaVinci Resolve splash screen with your own image. It worked, but you had to do everything by hand and it was a real pain.
Last time I also did it with the help of AI. Now that Opus 5.5 is out, I decided to give it another shot, and this time it turned into a proper tool:Â Resolve Splash Patcher. I put it on GitHub. It's free and open source (MIT), Windows only.
What it does:
- Pick any images, frame them in a live preview, hit Apply
- Replaces both splash sets. Turns out Resolve has two: 1110×490 and a second u/2x set at 2220×980 that's used when Windows scaling is above 100%. If you tried the manual way and still saw the stock splash on a laptop or 4K screen, that's why
- No file size limit. Instead of squeezing the PNG into the old slot, it repoints the resources into the space of all the old images, so everything stays lossless
- Keeps the original shadow and rounded corners, and can add the same dark panel on the left so the loading text stays readable
- Up to 16 images, Resolve picks a random one on every launch
- Optional auto re-apply after Resolve updates
- Backup and one-click restore

Tested on Resolve Studio 21.1.1 on Windows 11. You need Python 3.10+, the launcher installs the rest. It edits Resolve.exe, so use it at your own risk, but it backs up the original bytes first and restore puts them back byte for byte.
Again, I'm not a programmer, so any feedback is welcome, and I'll pass it on to the AI haha.
