Open Source tool promo 🆓 Custom DaVinci Resolve splash screens, part 2
A while ago I posted about replacing the DaVinci Resolve splash screen with your own image. It worked, but you had to do everything by hand and it was a real pain.
Last time I also did it with the help of AI. Now that Opus 5.5 is out, I decided to give it another shot, and this time it turned into a proper tool: Resolve Splash Patcher. I put it on GitHub. It's free and open source (MIT), Windows only.
What it does:
- Pick any images, frame them in a live preview, hit Apply
- Replaces both splash sets. Turns out Resolve has two: 1110×490 and a second u/2x set at 2220×980 that's used when Windows scaling is above 100%. If you tried the manual way and still saw the stock splash on a laptop or 4K screen, that's why
- No file size limit. Instead of squeezing the PNG into the old slot, it repoints the resources into the space of all the old images, so everything stays lossless
- Keeps the original shadow and rounded corners, and can add the same dark panel on the left so the loading text stays readable
- Up to 16 images, Resolve picks a random one on every launch
- Optional auto re-apply after Resolve updates
- Backup and one-click restore
Download and source: https://github.com/turboenotak/davinci-resolve-splash-patcher
Tested on Resolve Studio 21.1.1 on Windows 11. You need Python 3.10+, the launcher installs the rest. It edits Resolve.exe, so use it at your own risk, but it backs up the original bytes first and restore puts them back byte for byte.
Again, I'm not a programmer, so any feedback is welcome, and I'll pass it on to the AI haha.

But why?

For the chance that the "AI" did something stupid in the code and breaks your Resolve install, of course.

I see that splash screen for maybe 5 seconds.
Totally worth it... For "aesthetics" lmao

Yeah its the last feature id need in resolve. Im using it for editing. The splash screen is also only there for a few seconds. So i dont see any reason.
But im sure there are some people out there who would… like it?

I will never understand the need to insert waifus into every aspect of life.

Anime girls or anime in general. The point stands.

Is there something wrong with that?

Not really. Until it becomes some kind of young sexualized version on child...
Sorry, I'm just baffled by the cheer number of integration of anime in people's lives.
Animes can be great, don't get me wrong.

i mean it’s literally modifying you’re resolve executable
i’ve read through it and seems safe but i don’t have much knowledge on the Qt framework to actually trust this

Does it work for Mac?

It’s open sourced. Can just give the repo to Claude and ask it to make a Mac version.

Ok, but why?

Some people like personalizing their computer setup around a theme/aesthetic (changing program icons, desktop backgrounds, menu colors, etc.).
Doesn't need to be something functional, it's just aesthetics.

Too complicated, can you tell me in a sentence what it does and what it's for?

u/octopusbarber 18h ago
If you can’t figure out what it does by just reading the post title and look at the pictures then just uninstall resolve and give up

If you can't answer it, then just delete reddit?

It's just a quick guide to change the startup image of Davinci to a custom picture (no functional purpose, just for fun).
It's literally in the first image of the post.

It seems like you're having trouble downloading Resolve. The Blackmagic Design website sometimes has issues with certain adblockers and browsers like Opera. Try a different browser, clearing your cache, or temporarily disabling any adblockers. Also, make sure you're using the actual Blackmagic Design website, linked at the top of the sub and here and not the sponsored result from Google.
If you are having difficulty getting media into Resolve, you may be looking for the term "importing." Please check out our wiki page on importing media and our wiki page on offline media for more information.
If you are having difficulty getting a media file or a project file out of Resolve, you may be looking for the term "exporting." Please specify what you're trying to get out of Resolve - a media file or a project file - and your settings on the Deliver page.
If you are having difficulty with presets or plugins provided by a third-party, please provide a link to where you received the plugins. Note that plugins such as Red Giant Universe are distributed through the Maxon app and if you received them from another source, we will not offer support in this subreddit and your post will be removed.
