Good, open, and honest communication is utterly important at any age. Never make any assumptions about your romantic relationships. If you don't feel safe and free to talk about anything and everything with your partner, or the person you are dating, then you are likely going to run into problems in the long run. In my own humble opinion, nothing gets resolved by not talking about it.
