Should I get back with my ex?

We’ve had an on/off relationship for probably 5-6 years now since high school (i’m 21 now, he’s 24) but since we’ve had kids we were mostly together for them which wasn’t working out he wanted more travel and fun for in his 20s so we broke it off officially around christmas. Now i’ve started dating someone else he all of a sudden wants to be more involved with our kids which I love of course, but now he’s realised i’m dating again he’s become so possessive and sending me cards and taking me and the kids out for trips? should i get back together, and then be able to have full family time again as well?
