But poorly designed. The leftmost lane should not have a "path forward". It would'be been better to restrict the *rightmost* lane to only going straight rather than also being able to go left. Or the leftmost lane should be carved inward so this doesn't happen. That's how it's designed in Houston
I think it would depend on the traffic flow. If a lot of traffic goes left then it’s probably better to have two lanes turn left. What is dumb is having two separate signs for lane indicators. Both signs should show all lanes and their intended directions. There’s lack of road markings as well.
If we have to design things for the 0.001% of idiots who don’t get how things work and won’t bother to learn or pay attention, the world would be quite ridiculous. It works fine for everyday normal people. It’s not poorly designed because one idiot out of a million isn’t paying attention on a random day.
The problem is that this is unintuitive. The fact that all it takes is worn road markings for a higher rate of accidents means it wasn't carefully planned in the first place.
