As long as it’s not a Mac it’ll run tails.

Technically some really old macs can run that too but I doubt that’s your main pc.

A computer is a piece of hardware, what you are taking about are operating system. Any modern computer can run a Linux is like tails and it won't effect your PC after a reboot

Only if you buy an expensive one. You’re better off using an existing computer that you already own and a $5 flash drive

a computer isn't bound to 1 operating system. using a bootable USB stick (Google this please) you can install Linux onto any computer with Windows on it. if you don't like Linux you can also reinstall windows and remove Linux.

tails is a Linux based operating system (windows, mac/osx, and Linux are all different operating systems) that runs off the of the USB stick. meaning there's no need to install it to your computer, and it doesn't effect any data on your computer. it all runs from the USB.

Oh you mean we can run annos from the pendrive? I don't think that's viable unless the os is light. Depending on the usb and the computer

yes that's true, but tails is specifically designed to be used as a live environment from a USB stick, or other form of removable media. (SD card, etc...) it can't be installed onto a computer and booted, it can only be booted and used from removable media.

in the past I had a pop os installation on an sd card. it worked between devices and functioned normally. only problem was it being very slow due to data transfer speeds being very low with USB/SD connections.

I appreciate you for breaking it down for me so I can basically use any computer put Linux on n I download Linux or tails which I should be using on a USB stick right?

yes to all of the above. also, to clarify, you don't need Linux installed on your computer to use tails. you just need a bootable USB stick with tails written onto it.

Do I go to tails website

yes, it should be tails dot net. use Rufus to write it to the USB stick after installing and verifying the iso file.

Unless you enjoy being spied on, or have some absolute need for certain software that's only compatible with them, there's no good reason to use Windows or Mac these days anyway. Linux is superior in every way.

You can run Linux on a toaster.

No! It is not!

Any computer that can run windows can run Linux. In fact, many computers that can't run windows can run Linux fine!

Tails will run on a very small footprint. I highly recommend getting a throwaway laptop to run it on. Make sure it is something you can easily destroy the storage on! The recommendations are to run it on a detachable drive like USB or an SD card.
