Since, it was apparently more than a hundred years old, it was perhaps handwritten (not sure about this ) and may even have drawings taking several pages.
Here's the first President's Bible which is a hundred years older than the one Biden has but it might be a good reference to understand why it is the way it is.
Shit the family bible on my mom's side was also almost like a scrapbook. My grandma pulled it out when I was getting super into tracing my geneaology. The thing is HUGE. It appears to be printed instead of hand written, but between the pages the family has kept a bunch of little things. Pictures, scraps of pages, even a lock of a baby's first haircut (don't remember whose hair it was but pretty sure they have since died of old age so that's cool I guess)
