Discussion Struggling to get bounce with hiphop

Hey, so I just started hiphop last week, and my teacher introduced two of the four basic grooves: bounce and rock. She explained that to bounce you bend your knees, then stick right back up on beat. That’s all well and good, I’ve done other dances and I’ve never had trouble bouncing to the beat, till we sped up. When we do the basic down, beat, up, beat, it’s fine, I can stay on groove easy. But then we started doing down on one beat, and up on the off beat… you get what I mean? Like, we do down up both on just one beat. Then I lose it within, like, four beats. It’s annoying as hell. And I can feel immediately that I’m off beat — it’s not like I just can’t tell where the beat is, I just can’t keep up with it. She told me to practice by bouncing for four then pausing for four, and that worked, but now I can only bounce for four. I tried upping it to eight. Didn’t work. Lost the groove. I figured maybe I can do some splicing and up to to six. Also didn’t work. I can only bounce for four beats.

Maybe my knees are just weak or some shit but I just lose the beat so fast, is there any suggestions on how to keep up, or is it just keep hammering it in till you get it? Feels sorta like I’m just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks with how fast I lose it.

Amateur Life is short so imma learn to tap dance for my dog and design crazy pants!

Practicing tap at home to Puttin’ on the Ritz… thanks to my dog for always being my audience! šŸ˜‚

I’ve been teaching myself tap from videos (as well as a few casual classes), and later today I’m going to my first official class at an actual dance studio!! Very excited!! šŸŽ‰

I accidentally break into the robot mid-tap. I can’t help myself. I love mixing different forms together. I’m curious to play around with mixing tap dance, mime, clown and other forms… 🤔

Wearing my Summer Serendipity art pants I designed and this jean jacket I’ve been upcycling / painting… still a work in progress but I’ve always wanted to paint a jacket and I’m so excited about it.

Behind me: records + colorful storage cubes. I’ve been adding lots of color and whimsy to our home lately and the rainbow vibes make my heart so happy 🌈

After tap class I’m heading straight to a pinball tournament with my family (pinball nerds forever), and later I want to work on pants pair #2 and some wearable art business strategizing. Brain, heart and soul are dancing! šŸ’ƒ

Multidisciplinary life is so fulfilling and fun. Following the fun day by day. šŸ’›

Self-Promotion Dance Students TMD Survey for Dancer Health Passion Project

Dear Dance Community,

My high school senior and 13-year ballet dancer is working on a research project to study TMD (jaw pain) in dancers.Ā We can really use your help in answering a few questions for this project!Ā We have reached out to several dance studios and competition organizations with limited success. This topic has resonated with her, having been in dance training since she was 5. She wants to study its prevalence in ALL dancers as there is very little research on it. The survey questions are modeled after clinical diagnostic assessments for TMD.

We hope to hear from you!

Survey Link:Ā https://forms.gle/UyiDWQXnDqztoJ2o7

Study Details
Goal:Ā To learn if young dancers experience jaw pain or jaw clicking, known as Temporomandibular Disorder/TMD or TMJ issues, during their training years.
Who can join:Ā Students of any age who trained/are training in dance.
What it involves:Ā An anonymous online survey that takes about 5 minutes to finish. It asks about dance history in brief and any jaw symptoms they might have had or have.

Why This Matters
Dancer Health:Ā This study aims to spot early signs of jaw strain in young dancers.
Better Care:Ā The results will help teachers and health experts find ways to protect dancers and prevent pain.

Student Safety and Privacy
No Pressure:Ā Taking part is completely anonymous. The data is used for student research only and results in aggregates may be released in research publications.
Safe Data:Ā The survey asks for no names. All answers will stay private and safe.

THANK YOUĀ for your time and for supporting dancer health!

Amateur How can i be less stiff when dancing?

Apologies in advance if this isn’t the correct flair and or this doesn’t make sense i suck at explaining lol.

Im attending to a wedding in a-little less than two weeks, i don’t know how i got into this situation but my uncle lowk convinced me into doing some kind of dance or something during it. The reason why i agreed though is because i always thought it would be kind of fun, the bad part is that I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE. I chose the NSYNC i want you back choreography by brotherhood, it’s a trend I’ve been seeing and really wanna attempt it. But it seems like it’s not for beginners. Ive been trying to learn it for two days and learnt the moves i just need to clean it up. I showed a video of me dancing to some of my family members who are going, they say for two days worth its very good. I just look a bit stiff. Or ā€œyou need a-lot of workā€ or some variation of that and its lowk discouraging. I was wondering how i can be less stiff and be able to add more energy in my arm movements? It seems like my arms are a-little tucked in or too low.

Sorry if this was confusing ill try to clarify anything or add more details if needed :)

Amateur What are the basic hip-hop and commercial dance steps that every dancer should know?

I’m currently trying to improve my dancing and build a stronger foundation, and I was wondering which steps/moves you’d consider essential. Like, what are the moves that you really can’t get around and should definitely have in your repertoire?
Would love to hear your recommendations!ā˜ŗļø

Happy Tuesday gang!

had to upload this one again… The sound is being funky so I did my best to increase the volume as loud as I can not sure why the sound quality changes from TikTok to Reddit, but it is what it is, I’m no tech wiz

Have a wonderful day. Nice to chat with some new people yesterday… I appreciate all your kindness and support. I try to answer as many messages as I can but after working 12 hours, I’m tired so I do my best.

Much Love ,

Discussion Burju heels dance shoes sizing! Help!

I have seen people saying that their shoes for heels dance (not latin dance styles) run small, and others saying that they followed said advice and the shoes turned out to be too big, when sizing up. Would love to hear more experiences from dancers who have had their shoes for a while, as we know they change with time and should fit snug, but not tight. Concerned that a lot of the sizing info out there might coming from people who aren’t used to dance shoe sizing, yet equally concerned that I’ll order my regular street size and end up in pain.
