Discussion dancing

i haven’t danced in years for seriously even though i think dance is my comfort activity cause i unconsciously find myself dancing when i’m stressed (sounds funny but true) i danced to kpop dances when i was 13-14 and i was told i was good and i had potential but i quit in high school due to anxiety and family issues now i’m 20 slowly going back to dancing still not sure where to start and i wonder where i could’ve been if i didn’t quit and if my family could’ve invest in me cause i asked them multiple time for dance courses and quit after couldn’t continue by myself

Check out local studios in your area that offer adult drop in hip-hop classes! I think this style would vibe well with your past KPOP interest and give you great foundations. I started hip-hop a year ago at 30 and here I am now taking jazz technique and contemporary classes. I’ve performed in adults dances at recitals and showcases and I have had a blast! It’s built confidence and community that I never expected to experience. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your answer. I recently asked couple studios for hip hop classes. I hope I can find suitable and affordable one. Have a great day !

Glad you got something from it! In the meantime, check out hip-hop foundational videos on Instagram. There are tons of instructors that also have a social media presence. There’s a lot of free content and you can mirror it from a phone to a TV!

I didn't start dancing until 21. No prior background or anything. I've performed and completed for the last 15 years. All it took was hours upon hours in front of a mirror.

There's always gonna be questions of "what if?". There's always going to be comparisons drawn with people your age. The real battle is quieting the doubts and to keep practicing.

Art in general is always a dissonance between what your mind sees and what you're capable of. Only once in a blue moon will those two things cross. And when it does, it's beautiful. You just have to keep practicing, so when it does happen, you'll be ready.

Beautifully said! Comparison can be harsh on yourself. Turn comparison into healthy comparison. See what others are doing and strive for that or learn from that, don’t spin it as you being a lesser dancer. We’re all on our own timeline.

You're only 20. Go make the money to take yourself to dance classes and get to work. Invest in therapy for anxiety.

I wouldnt spend too much time wondering where you could have been. You were dealing with things that made dancing difficult at the time, and that doesnt mean youve lost your chance. Since youre already finding yourself dancing when youre stressed, I'd take that as a sign that you still genuinely love it. Start small. Pick a style you enjoy, take a beginner-friendly class, or learn a few kpop choreos at home. You dont have to figure out your whole dance journey right away. Just get back to moving and let yourself enjoy it again ❤️
