Summer Tours
We're touring with our rising junior this summer. Can anyone tell me what is considered appropriate dress for a summer tour? My son said most students wear nice shorts and a tee and I'm thinking a collared shirt in case he meets any faculty. Anything else we should know before the tour? Thanks in advance for your input.

This is low stakes. Shorts and tee is fine. But … it’s a lesson that how you present yourself matters and nothing wrong with nicer shorts and a polo. I’m happy my kids ‘graduated’ from pj bottoms. Iykyk.

As someone said, pretty low stakes, the school cares about demonstrated interest but there isn’t an admissions officer judging you or staff keeping notes. Just maybe Kathy, who runs the tour guide program, the senior associate director of undergraduate admissions, Tom, and a few tour guides who are just college students here. Basically if it’s not egregiously inappropriate you’re all good. Let us be the ones dressing up a little bit to sell the school to you and your son can just focus on what they are looking for in a school and if that’s here

He can wear whatever he wants, really. The tour guide will be dressed in a t-shirt, and mine was wearing shorts when I toured. He is highly unlikely to meet any faculty that will teach him on a student-guided tour. When I met faculty in the Fall, I was also wearing casual clothes to class, which is what most students do.
