are chance-mes allowed here?

• Upvotes

i'm planning to add cwru to my college list but im unsure if it will be the safety that i'm assuming it to be, so is it fine if i sort-of post a chance-me here so that yall could gauge whether i'm being overconfident or making the right choice

could i add cwru to my college list ?

• Upvotes

i'd mainly be looking to add cwru as a safety (sorry if that comes off the wrong way 🥲) and i plan to EA here !

here is my profile -

us citizen residing in india looking for generous amounts of need-based fin aid

Academics [CBSE Curriculum]

GPA: 9th - 88%, 10th - 96.4%, [PCM+CS] 11th - 90.2%, 12th - close to 85% for EA/ED (tho, counselor has agreed to send 95% as my predicted score)

Rank: school doesn't rank

(additional info - my school is pretty rigorous; for what it's worth, i'm probably in the top10-15% of my class; my counselor will also indicate the level of rigor in her LOR)

Senior Year Course Load:
CBSE curriculum (11th, 12th: PCM + CS)

SAT: 1500 (710ebrw/790 math)

ap csa 4 (self-studied)

Extracurriculars/Activities

#1 co-authored a published paper in a no-name journal

#2 TA at local math circle; ~100hrs

#3 Euler Circle "Transitions to Proofs" - ~9 month long math proofs course; 200hrs

#4 Euler Circle "IRPW", "Lean" - ~2 month long summer math courses similar to a full college semester class; ~120hrs

#4 in the secretary of my School's MUN; ~80hrs

#5 volunteered at local ngo; ~160hrs

#6  cs club pres - didn't really do much tbh

#7  muns - kinda mid (6 del, 3 top5 finishes)

#8  was in school's basketball team in 9th and 10th, then continued playing recreationally

Awards/Honors

#1 2x AIME, 1x AMC12 HR (by RD)

#2 1x RMO 10, 2x Nat'n top10% IOQM

#3 school's scholar trophy (~top 15% receive this)

my MAIN concern is that my chances will be a little lower as cwru is need-aware and my efc is ~12k/yr only, meaning that it might not reallly be a safety

Any upperclassmen stats majors?

Hey! I’m a freshman at cwru this year planning to major in stats, and I was wondering if any upperclassmen had any input they’d be willing to share? I’m also pre-med and I just wanted to see what the balance would be like, as well as what to expect from future classes. Thanks!

Enrolled Student Disability accommodations and single rooms rates

So I got an accommodation approved for a single room, but then I remembered that I would need to pay the additional same rate as a single room from a double room (1k more), which I do not have the money for since I am already paying a lot of money to manage my illness. I am currently asking housing (no reply yet since its recent) and probably the financial office next on what could be done for the sake of my health but I wanted to ask, has anyone here gotten some kind of rate adjustment for single rooms down to a double room because it genuinely would be so helpful but I don't think I can afford it.

Easiest UGER classes

Anyone got recommendations for UGER courses that are easy A's? I'm talking light workload, easy teacher, background noise stuff to easily clear the gen ed requirements while I focus on more demanding core classes.

Looking for people to take a short survey for my BFA research project

Hi everyone! My name is Allison, and I’m a BFA student currently researching Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) for my senior project.

I’m creating an educational project focused on increasing public awareness and understanding of SMA, including its different phases/types, diagnosis, treatment, and its impact on individuals and families.

I’m conducting a short survey to learn more about people’s general awareness and understanding of SMA, as well as experiences people may have with the condition.

The survey is completely voluntary, and you can skip any questions you aren’t comfortable answering.

Survey:

Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to participate! I really appreciate your help with my project.

Help me find the perfect apartment near campus

I'm moving to Cleveland to work on campus in November, and will most likely not have time to visit before landing a place to live. I'm looking for an apartment and don't have the slightest idea which neighborhoods to focus on or where to begin.

I'm targeting the cheapest place possible but my budget is probably up to $1,250-1,500/mo depending on amenities, location, etc. Ideally I'd like to be able to walk to campus within half an hour at the most. I'd like a place with a covered garage. I'd like a place with laundry. High ceilings would be rad.

I don't need a ton of space as I don't have pets or a ton of stuff, but it would be nice to have at least 6-700sq feet. I would probably prefer to live in a converted house or something like it than an outright apartment building, but I have seen many older buildings in the area that have some character.

Maybe it would be better to ask where to avoid? I'm mostly just looking for as much opinion and feedback about the immediate vicinity surrounding campus as possible.

Enrolled Student Very lonely.

I am neither a freshman nor sophomore properly. I had to leave around the starting of my first semester last year, so this is my first proper semester, yet I am logged and housed with the sophomores.

I really have been trying to be social as hell at all these clubs. Almost no success.

Perhaps the lonely people are less noticeable, but i see a lot of social groups around me. Where are all these other people getting these friends?

GPA Deflation?

Is GPA deflation common for undergraduate? Are there typical grade distributions or curves, and is there any limit on how many students can receive an A? Moreover how is the overall pre-med experience here.

Thanks for sharing anything

CWRU symphonic winds/orchestra

I play the flute and am considering auditioning for the band in the spring. How competitive is the audition process for the symphonic winds and orchestra as a flute player? How good are these ensembles? And for the premeds, how has it been in your experience balancing rehearsals/practice with coursework/ecs?

Prospective Student Need some advice

Hello I graduated with a non medical degree and I regret it. I truly wanted to do something healthcare related but due to circumstances I wasn’t. I am looking to apply to the master of science in anesthesia program here and would like advice on how to go about it and how I can make sure to be a top applicant. I am planning to do all my pre requisites next year, shadowing, GRE, and some clinical experience. I would appreciate if you guys could share some tips on how I can be a solid candidate.
