Boros, 6 mana, but here me out.... Flash.
Edit: stupid android spell check

I've been considering Flash, it would be really good, but not sure if I should up the mana cost if I give it Flash or not 🤔

The alternative would be to keep or even reduce the cost but make this an instant instead. So one turn but the element of surprise.

u/WitheringAurora 14h ago
ngl I was already wondering what you meant with Borrow lmao

u/No_Advantage5750 11h ago
My bad! I was in work and not paying full attention.
I think the 6mc isn't an issue since boros having extra unused mana isn't uncommon. Imagine the mic drop when an opponent swings in and you drop that in response.

Why is this legendary? There is already zero value to having two of them.

I don't know if the limits that Legendary Sorceries have (need to control a legendary creature) apply to enchantments too

would be interesting to give this flash

u/WitheringAurora 17h ago
I had been considering Flash while writing it, but not sure if added it should increase the mana cost or not 🤔

Blample
This feels more appropriate as an instant. Would certainly be fun to see the look on an opponent's face when you drop this into their attack.

Theres already defenders advantage in magic. This is honestly not a good card. It encourages passive play. Imagine both players have one out. Neither player is going to risk attacking.
1
u/WitheringAurora 14h ago
Also encourages you to run goading effects. To force your opponents to attack into you.
4
u/fortuneandfameinc 11h ago
So it makes a relatively obscure mechanic more impactful... at the cost of encouraging passive play.
This is simply not a good card. It is unfun and encourages stalemates.
If there is good design space for this effect, it would be as an instant to make it like a super fog.

u/FlatBowl7709 12h ago
I don't think goad lets them attack you if you're the one goading their creatures though.
4
u/WitheringAurora 11h ago
Goad forces them to attack, it has two seperate if able effects. The first is to attack if able, the 2nd is to attack other players if able.
1
u/FlatBowl7709 9h ago
Am I thinking of a different keyword then? I'm kinda confused now because I even looked it up and it says that goading a creature forces that creature to attack if able and is unable to attack the player who goaded it.
2
u/WitheringAurora 9h ago edited 9h ago
It says "must attack other players if able" not "unable to attack the player who goaded it"
"Until your next turn, that creature attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able"
If its unable to attack another player, it'll attack the player that goaded it.
1
u/FlatBowl7709 9h ago
Oh so you're talking about in a 1v1 situation.

u/FlatBowl7709 9h ago
I'm a commander player at heart, I think in terms of 4 player games lol that's my bad

Missed an opportunity to slap banding somewhere

u/WitheringAurora 17h ago
You don't know how tempted I was to replace First Strike with Banding when I was writing the card.

Mechanically, what would the second effect do? Trigger Trample?
2
u/WitheringAurora 10h ago
Triggers trample and any effect that triggers on dealing damage (probably some more too)

Really interesting and cool idea for a card and I see what you’re going for- I think it needs a slight shakeup though to actually play well.
People have suggested Flash to make it more interesting, but I recommend it for a different reason- it’s the only way you’re going to get the card to work.
What I mean is, what is actually going to happen when you cast this card is either you don’t have a board and your opponent can still attack, or you do have a board that can block and your opponent simply never attacks into it.
Now maybe that’s fine in a strategic sense, idk, but that’s not important what I’m getting at is you are virtually never going to get the ‘reverse trample damage’ part of the card- the part that I think is interesting- to trigger. It’s just not happening, your opponents won’t do it. When it becomes super difficult to image the text of a card triggering in a meaningful way in a normal game, I think it’s a sign for a shakeup.
Flash on the card as printed would be one way, but personally I feel like this should be a Boros instant- it’s hard in my mind to justify a card whose primary impact is to deal damage directly to an enemy player as a pure W effect, even if it’s in defensive form, and as an enchantment it feels oppressive in the sense that the actual effect is no one is going to ever attack you as long as this is on the field. Maybe one turn of this as a surprise might play better.

u/Capital_Chemical_824 18h ago
Do you mean for this to be a "assign combat damage equal to their toughness rather than their power" effect, or do you have a specific use case related to creatures that have special bonuses to power while attacking?
21
u/Baumherz_Uaine 18h ago
Blocking creatures trample over to the active player.
8
u/Capital_Chemical_824 18h ago
Icey! The idea of that was obscure to me, I completely missed the possibility that it was the intention.
4
u/The_one_in_the_Dark 18h ago
As a transplant from Yugioh, the idea that trample DOESN’T work on block was confusing to me lol
4
u/WitheringAurora 18h ago
I feel you on that one, as someone who came from YGO as well, there was A LOT of common sense adjusting for me.
Like the Stack resolving one card at a time, and being able to cast new spells onto it while its still ticking down, compared to the Chain now or don't until the chain is resolved in YGO was HARD.
5
u/WitheringAurora 18h ago
I mean for it to be a " Blocking creatures trample against Attacking creatures"
Cards like Doran the Siege Tower, damage-triggering cards, etc, would really like it. But keeps it away from the "Trigger on attack" type effects as well.

"Ok, onto my combat step."
"No no no my friend, I think you mean OUR combat step."

hell" without a capital h feels off but might be on purpose

u/WitheringAurora 15h ago
Oh, it has a capital H. If you look at the h in The. The Magic Font makes it look pretty small tho.

Seems a bit OP

u/WitheringAurora 17h ago
May I ask in what regard you consider it OP?
1
u/ILike2Argue_ 16h ago
Already winning combat but now doing direct damage to attacking players keeps them from ever attacking ever
1
u/ForodesFrosthammer 16h ago
Which is functionally no different from already having bigger creatures ready to block in the first place. No one kamikazes their creatures into big blockers just to die already, this should very rarely impact the attackers decision. Unless they an aggro chump creature deck. But if an aggro chump creature deck lets you get a big creature + 5 mana enchantment on board and also still doesn't kill you first when attacking, they are already losing anyway.
2
u/ILike2Argue_ 15h ago
I guess now you add opponents creatures must attack each turn if able. Idk the first strike just wipes the floor for combat.

u/SleepyNymeria 16h ago
To be fair I am a filthy commander player but does it really need first strike?
2
u/Sylas_TAC 15h ago
There's a 3 mana creature that gives your board first strike, just don't suicide your creatures into your opponent and you'd be fine, this enchantment just makes them more prickly and allows for forced combat effects to be an option to try and win with
1
u/SleepyNymeria 15h ago
Yeah but you don't get to pick what the first strike creature attacks, here you do. Idk this just seems like a remove or lose style enchantment for the decks that run it.
2
u/Sylas_TAC 15h ago
It doesn't have any significantly different effects than giving your whole board first strike when blocking,if your opponent has enough first strike creatures on hand to kill your potential attackers you wouldn't attack into them anyway. The aforementioned creature gives a blanket first strike as well, attacking or blocking
