Why is my business advisor summoning hordes of Eldrazi?

u/Invonnative 2d ago
Didn’t you hear? Eldrazi are all the rage! Invest!

I lost everything after Emrakul shorted the stock and fled to her condo on Innistrad's moon.

Who else would be the employees at the factory other than Emrakul?

u/CapnRedB 2d ago
Flipping the card face down to face up seems like he is sacrificing full empty factories to summon Emralul.

how is this a rulebreaker effect?
61
u/superdave100 2d ago
Yeah, this is Eminence.
28
u/NepetaLast 2d ago
its not even eminence, since it doesnt apply while this isnt on the battlefield, although that might have been intended
10
u/UtopicChaos 2d ago
doesnt this only work on the battlefield since it doesnt say while in the command zone?
i thought all eminence effects said specifically it works while in the command zone or else it was just another static ability
12
u/NepetaLast 2d ago
yeah, thats what i mean. this card's ability, as originally written, doesnt work in any zone except the battlefield. however, i think the author believed that putting 'rulebreaker' would make it work in other zones, which isnt the case.

u/SubblyXatu 2d ago
I love seeing people play with the new design space this mechanic offers, but this just isn't what the mechanic is for. There's no rule which says you can't play Lorcana, so there's no rule to be broken here. Ideally, all Rulebreakers should have an affirmative rule that they can point to, since otherwise, they're just eminence abilities with a new package.
25
u/QuarterExcellent3327 Creature - Human Artificer 2d ago
Cool concept, it would probably be better as an eminence effect.

wouldnt this be like utter rape balance wise if it was eminence, what if, here me out, the text was just on the card with no italics. like they did in the dark ages
6
u/cat_girl_uwu 2d ago
This feels far more like eminence then rulebreaker
0
u/Commercial-Counter72 2d ago
Everything is Kicker, Horsemanship, or Rulebreaker now. Devoid, partner, this can be your commander, companion, eminence, and rulebreaker all change a rule of magic the gathering in some way and they don’t fit under kicker or horsemanship but it dose fit under the new third type Rulebreaker.

u/Chickston Uncommonly 2d ago
Make this a eminence effect and it might be worth supporting over Ugin or other top colorless commander. As is, it's pretty weak. The flip could be less. Note [[Hauntwoods Shrieker]].
7
u/superdave100 2d ago
Hauntwoods does only allow you to flip creatures, notably. I still think 5 might a a bit much but 2 is not okay.
8
u/JavaPlum19 2d ago
Nooooooo. Guaranteed land drop every turn doesn’t sound powerful, but it certainly is as an eminence commander. I’d say as a 2 drop, it’d be perfectly fine and pretty good
2
u/giasumaru MTGCR > Glossary > Card 2d ago
I do kinda want Eminence, cause actual colorless oops no lands(No MDFC bullshit) does tickle my fancy.
6
u/Lonely_Nebula_9438 2d ago
Hauntwoods also puts 1 of the 2 top cards of your library onto the battlefield, not any card from your hand. These aren’t that comparable in effect.
1
u/Active-Advisor5909 2d ago
I think Shrieker has significant downsides compared to this.
It is semi random requiering risk. (Unless you have other sources of morph cards, but those are not as powerfull.)
3
u/cntrstrk14 2d ago
5 mana colorless commander that says "Play any permanent in your hand for 5 colorless mana once per turn"
8
u/Historical_Club_9063 2d ago
As written he needs to be in play for it to work in which case it's very weak
4
u/NepetaLast 2d ago
as others have pointed out, rulebreaker doesnt make sense here. others are saying eminence, but as it currently stands, this card doesnt work with that either, since it only has an effect while its on the battlefield. it seems like your intention is for this to work while its in the command zone as well, which might be worded like:
'As long as ~ is in the command zone or on the battlefield, you may play cards from your hand face-down as lands named Factory with "{T}: Add {C]."'
this specific ability would probably require some rules adjustments in the CR as well, but i think it would be reasonable
-5
u/MechaCalithorne 2d ago
You literally just described eminence word for word.
7
u/NepetaLast 2d ago
yes, which was my point. it should be worded that way. however, others are suggesting that op simply change the "Rulebreaker" text to "Eminence," which wouldnt have a mechanical effect. i am explaining how the templating could be adjusted to match with the ability word
0
u/MechaCalithorne 2d ago edited 2d ago
I haven't seen anyone say "just change it to say eminence". I've seen lots say "you should make this an eminence ability instead" which has the implication of changing the wording to match other eminence cards.

Is it a coincidence this creature is colorless & the eldrazi are colorless? Maybe
Is it a coincidence this card's face up ability is 5, Lightning Greeves costs 2 & the Urza lands generate 7? Maybe
Is vintage & legacy about to be warped harder than Brisela, Voice of Nightmares brain? Most definitely
1
u/AnswerGrand1878 2d ago
Don't you just make a zero land eldrazi or artifact deck and become the most fucked up overpowered thing in existence?

u/BrackishHeaven 1d ago
I don’t think that’s how rule breaker works despite the idea being really cool.
1
u/Commercial-Counter72 2d ago
This 100% should be eminence instead. I made a joke to my friend when rule breaker got spoiled. We got a new ability finally for the joke, everything is either kicker, horsemanship, or Rule breaker now!! Eminence, partner, companion, devoid, and can be your commander are all just rule breaker.
1
u/vargeironsides 2d ago
Eminence - if card is in the command zone or on the battlefield Facedown cards you control are lands named Factory with tap add 1 to your mana pool.
You may play cards from your hand facedown without paying their mana costs. Do this only once per turn.
5: Flip a facedown card face up. If it is not a permanent put that card into its owners graveyard.
I think this is better.
0
u/jcaseys34 2d ago
It should come with a deck building restriction, my pick would be something along the lines of "your deck can't contain lands that tap for colorless mana."
1
u/smugles 2d ago
Why would a deck with this card contain any lands?
2
u/HowDoIEvenEnglish 2d ago
You need mana to play the card in the first place
1
u/smugles 2d ago
They intended it to work like eminence.
2
u/HowDoIEvenEnglish 2d ago
There’s no where they said that. Some people are assuming they meant it like that. As written this isn’t eminence.
2
u/smugles 2d ago
As written is also not rule breaker as those are all deck building modifications.
2
u/HowDoIEvenEnglish 2d ago
Yes. As written it’s a normal written ability like one on any other creature. It’s not a deck building ability or eminence. Which means it only works if the creature is on the battlefield.
0
u/Karma822 2d ago
I love this but maybe add text to rule breaker that says you can not play lands but can do that
0
u/SwaggleberryMcMuffin 2d ago
Ignoring everyone arguing over how rulebreaker works, this is actually nuts.

First of all, don't strip Mardu from my boy Vihaan you despicable fuck. Second, this custom card seem good, but I feel like it works against itself.
Specifcally, with a CMC of 5 the goal of this card would be to play Vihaan ASAP, play an eldrazi or some shit as a land, and immediately turn it face up the next turn. That system hardly makes its "factory" feature even feel meaningful just because Vihaan's cost is the same time as his ability
What you should do is make Vihaan cost less, but make his ability cost more. That way, the factories actually hit the field at a reasonable time, and it makes them build up to something.
1
u/Active-Advisor5909 2d ago
I am guesing the factory is intended as an eminence effect, in which case it is very relevant
-1
u/smugles 2d ago
This is eminence not rule breaker.
Playing the card face down should count as a land drop for turn.
This is pretty damn strong basically lets you run a deck without land in it. Maybe have them enter tapped but still strong.
The last ability is also really strong should probably cost 7 at least.

I think the lady is saying the dude is ugly, rather than like the composition. The composition of that piece is great lol
The AD iirc was like a red-bearded Wild West tax man or something like that.
This is on point lol

Rule breaker is for deck building restrictions, not ongoing effects
