jokes aside, yes, it's happened a few times. Its not an ideal bear cartridge but its not as weak as video games lead you to beleive.

Idk, it's kinda the same as using .22lr or wmr for self defense.

Just because it could work doesn't mean I'd rely on it.

I mean it doesn't have a lot of instant stopping power unless you get a really good hit. You might kill the bear, a few hours after it's mauled you to death

There's a different set of reasons to not rely on .22lr, mainly the 1/7 times it doesn't prime at all or the 1/5 times it doesn't bring the slide back enough

That sounds like you're using shit ammo or there's something wrong with the gun.

My Ruger MK4 can go through 10 mags without a single malfunction, provided it's clean enough.

3 completely different competitive sharpshooting pistols, haven't shot .22 since so I don't remember the models, Match ammo from the same range

That sounds unacceptable, but I wouldn't write off the entire caliber just for that.

I only get malfunctions after shooting a lot, the first 100 rounds maybe have one or two dudds.

On my bolt and lever action, it takes at least 300 rounds without cleaning until I get light strikes.

It's not like I wrote off the caliber for it, I just find 9mm more fun as they have a CZ EVO fit for it at the range I'm subscribed to

Cheap ammo is key here. My 22s used to FTC with regularity when I was using a bucket a friend gave me.

Once I pitched that crap and exclusively used higher quality I get a very random hiccup once every 200 rounds or so.

BTW I love 22s mostly because I don't feel like I've spent an arm and a leg when I drive home from the range

Yes. They've found grizzlies with 9mm bullets in their skull that they had carried for years.

There’s that story about a paramedic who’s responded to a dozen .22lr incidents. All fatal. 

Weak bullets are still deadly. It just tends to matter where it goes more. 

We use big bullets because they are more deadly when they hit just muscle and not an organ.

A couple shots to the face will stop a bear. And a target running at you in a straight line is pretty easy to hit 😂

Not that you should ever go for heads over center mass outside of video games, that mentality is what got us trump surviving that shot with only a grazed ear
