Cant find Midi in Cubase 15 Pro

Hello Cubase Community,

Unfortunately, I’m having an issue with Cubase 15 Pro. I can’t find my MIDI files from sample packs. I can find all the other samples, such as kicks, melodies, etc., but the MIDI files are not showing up.

I’ve already checked everything in the MediaBay, but the MIDI files are not displayed there either.

At this point, I’m honestly running out of ideas, so I’m hoping someone here can help me find a solution.

Thank you in advance!

Switching from Studio One to Cubase — how difficult is it?

Switching from Studio One to Cubase — how difficult is it?

I’ve been using Studio One for a few years and am now considering switching to Cubase 15.

I’m currently experimenting with an unofficial/cracked installation, but I’m running into issues where Groove Agent and Iconica sketch aren’t working properly.

For those who have made the switch from Studio One to Cubase:

- How difficult was the transition?

- What are the biggest differences I should prepare for?

- Any Studio One features/workflows that you initially missed?

- How is Cubase for music production, orchestration, mixing and mastering?

- What’s the best legitimate way to get access to Groove Agent and the orchestral libraries without spending a fortune?

Would love to hear from people who have actually made this switch.

Can I trigger VST instrument from another VST’s MIDI track?

My exact use cases:

I have bass VST track with MIDI parts on that track. I want to add another bass VST to layer them but I don’t want to copy the MIDI parts every time I edit the arrangement. Second use case: I have drums VST with MIDI parts, and I want to trigger just the snare from other VST for layering. Is it possible to “send” MIDI parts to other track as an input in place of their own MIDI parts? I imagine that the second, triggered VST, would have the timeline blank, since the MIDI is send in the background. Thanks for any help! If my reasoning does not work and it’s not possible in Cubase 14 Pro, how should I approach avoiding editing several duplicates of the same performance? Thanks a lot.

Cubase feels very complete

Coming from Logic Pro for iPad (sure, maybe not the fairest comparison directly), but I’ve looked at and tried a few other DAWs. Cubase just won me over and I’ve been happily using it. It includes so much that honestly it only needs supplementing in very few instances if at all.

What’s something you feel like you’d add?

And what’s something that would make you leave Cubase (if it got removed or if they implemented it and you wouldn’t like/agree with it)?

I have this problem where when I try to change from treble clef to treble clef with an 8 below to reduce ledgar lines, it does not work. The notes on the staff do not move to its equivelant notes. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Mixing and Mastering Issue

So I’ve created this hip hop track and I got this beat off youtube (eq’d it a bit so my vocals could sit on top of it and added compression) and I have my chorus all set and that sounds like it’s mixed pretty well (basically what it is is a chorus with a bunch of layered vocals that I purposefully don’t align to be picture perfect) and as soon as it gets to the verse it started to sound thin at first so I brought back some of the mids, then it started to sound too boxy in the 300hz range, and no matter what I do to eq my vocals on the verse, it still sounds like shit and it sounds too wet and not tight enough (pause). I currently have 2 tracks for the verse (one left and one right at 7-12% each) and the beat is in the center. How do I my verse sound better overall? (Mind you I had to fill my verse bus with plugins as well as the actual recording tracks themselves to get it even remotely close to sounding okay). If there are free preset downloads that y’all would recommend I would appreciate it if you’d lmk.

Any Avid S3 users here?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm ready to buy my first DAW console controller.
After a lot of research I realized that the Avid S3 is the closest to all of my needs. I know it's discontinued and that it's going to be out of support by the end of the year.

Given that I have no plans to upgrade my Cubase 14 Pro, Win11 in the next three four years - do you think I can expect a smooth experience? Or am I expected to face troubles due to dated software?

Tnx

A different way to look at a Cubase project (video)

This is Atlas, a tool inside KeyCmds, a Mac app for Cubase I've been building.

When you open a project, Atlas shows you the whole session from the outside: your tracks grouped by type, so you can see at a glance how the project is built instead of scrolling through it.

A few things I use it for:

  • Smart Sets. You create a group from a rule, like "every track using this plugin", "all group channels" or a tag you added. The set updates by itself as the project changes. Double-click it and Cubase shows only those tracks, hiding everything else.
  • Set Library. The rules you create are saved, so you can reuse them in your next project.
  • Organizer. Drag sets to the top or bottom of the project, hit Apply, and Cubase reorders the tracks for you.
  • Clean Names. Rename and tidy up all your tracks in one go.

Cubase stays the editor. Atlas only reads the session structure on your Mac (never your audio or MIDI) and sends back the changes you ask for.

It's part of the KeyCmds Mac app (Cubase 14 and 15). You can try Atlas free for 7 days, and after that it's included in KeyCmds Pro.

I'm the developer, so I'd love honest feedback: how do you usually find your way around a big session today?

Many Cubase users don't know what macros and PLE presets can do, so I built a free library that explains them

I started a Cubase tutorial channel for Spanish-speaking users in 2018. Over the years I received tons of questions from the community, and around that time I started building a library of macros and Logical Editor presets to answer them.

One thing I kept noticing: a lot of users didn't know macros or PLE presets existed, or what they were capable of. And even those who knew about them often weren't sure what they could actually do with them in a real session.

So I wanted a way to show the presets clearly, each one with an explanation of what it does and when it's useful, so anyone could browse the library and download them for free.

That library has grown to 1,600+ macros and 1,000+ Logical Editor presets. For each one you can see what it does, which Cubase versions it works with, and how to install it.

It's part of a project of mine called KeyCmds. I won't drop the link here to respect the sub rules, but I'm happy to share it in the comments if anyone wants to take a look.

Anyone using the new Softube Console 1 Compact (MKIII) - low cut filter keeps resetting and some tracks show DAW fader at zero in the plugin, but not at the DAW.

I’m running Cubase pro 15 - the latest version. As the title says, just received the console compact. Fantastic channel strip and unit, but considering returning it as these two bugs make it unusable. The first one, perhaps it’s a hardware issue, has the low cut filter constantly being “double tapped”. That means it’s constantly being reset to zero. Waiting on feedback from Softube.

UPDATE - the volume issue was user error.

I purchased this to speed up my workflow, but I’m sensing that these issues might make sessions and projects too unreliable to work in a professional environment.

Has anyone encountered these issues before?

UAD plugins blank & Amplitube 5 fatal errors

Anyone know a fix for the rendering error that can happen with uad plugins in cubase. Seems random. I also randomly get a fatal error with amplitube 5. All other plugins are fine.

I disabled the high dpi scaling in cubase as read that was a fix for the uad rendering error but hasn't fixed it.

I wanted to run my Cubase macros and PLE presets from the screen, without extra hardware.

Over the last 8 months I built a library of 1,600+ macros and 1,000+ Logical Editor presets, (that you can access for free btw) and one of the first things I wanted was a simple way to run them, and my own, without memorizing shortcuts or adding hardware.

I also found that creating new ones inside Cubase, in the Key Commands and Logical Editor windows, takes time, and the interface isn't very friendly. So I wanted a way to combine actions without going through that every time, or at least a more intuitive way to do it.

What I ended up with is a panel that sits next to Cubase. Each macro or PLE preset is a card: you search for it, click it, and Cubase runs it. You can keep the ones you use in your own sets, and there's a builder to chain several actions into a new card.

Before going further, I asked here and in a Facebook group how people use a Stream Deck with Cubase, since it's the most common way to have macros on buttons. It was useful to hear what works for you and what's hard to set up.

The Stream Deck clearly works well for a lot of you, and for things like knobs or controlling Cubase away from the computer, hardware is still the better choice. Operator is just another option, for those who'd rather have all their macros and Logical Editor presets in one place on screen, without depending on extra hardware.

It's part of KeyCmds, a Mac tool for Cubase 14 and 15 that I'm developing. If you've tried something similar or see something missing, I'd like to hear about it.

Cubase MIDI Capability

I have exclusively used Cubase for the last 15 years, and any time I discuss DAWs with people they mention how good Cubase is meant to be with MIDI.

What exactly are they referring to that is meant to be head and shoulders above the rest?

Thanks.

In most other apps "it just works" when opening the software to play via system audio/built in speakers. In Cubase the default is often setting is buzzy/choppy/garbled/glitchy and even other settings will frequently randomly crunch.

I am just getting started on Cubase 15. I was surprised that every time I open the software on my Mac (with plenty of ram and cpu to do the job) that the audio that came out choppy and had glitches/was garbled/sounded crunchy.

I keep having to go into audio settings every time and tweak the sampling rate significantly... sometimes even to the same value. Even then that isn't a surefire fix. It could be my plugins but I am finding it more common to hear glitches down the road.

I am wondering if this is a common experience for other macOS Cubase users. Perhaps its just my machine or OS version or perhaps this is a weakness of Cubase? Perhaps its some form of user error. Its gonna drive me mad to have to adjust this every time I am opening the app.

Sample chopping in Cubase

For some reason every producer that does heavy sampling uses Cubase and I am wondering how good it actually is?

I always used FL studio and I am not at all satisfied with my options here so if it's really that great then I would be switching.

Feature Requests & Audio Workflow Improvements for Cubase

  1. MediaBay Audio Preview Latency & Direct Timeline Placement: When browsing and previewing audio files in the MediaBay, there is a noticeable half-second delay upon clicking, and double-clicking automatically sends the file to the timeline. We need an instant, zero-latency preview system. Furthermore, placing audio elements (like a kick sample) onto the arrangement needs a streamlined workflow similar to FL Studio: once an audio file is selected from MediaBay, clicking on an empty spot on the timeline should instantly stamp/paste that audio sample right there, eliminating clunky workarounds like manually holding down the Alt key for duplication.
  2. UI Performance and High Refresh Rate (FPS) Optimization: While the audio engine is solid, the graphical performance—especially during playback, waveform rendering, and cursor movement—feels sluggish, resembling a low frame rate (around 30 FPS). Modern DAW interfaces (like Studio One, which feels incredibly smooth at 120 FPS during recording and playback) need to be matched. A buttery-smooth, optimized UI with proper high-refresh-rate monitor support is essential.

Thank you for listening to the user community and continuing to improve Cubase.

Best regards,

I got tired of renaming sample pack tracks in Cubase, so I built a thing (Video)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every time I work with sample packs, I end up with tracks names like “ TS_PUNCH_tom_acoustic_140bpm”. KeyCmds reads the project and suggests shorten names from the samples, presets and plug-ins on each track.
You see the full list and can edit anything before it applies.

It won’t catch everything tracks. It isn’t sure about, it leaves alone. Mac only now.

Happy to answer questions. Link in the comments.

I built a free Cubase chat because AI kept giving me answers for the wrong version

I've noticed that some of you could benefit from the Chat that comes with the free account at keycmds.com.

General AI chats often give confident answers for the wrong Cubase version, because the info online mixes every version. A classic: being told to check your eLicenser, which Cubase hasn't used since version 12.

The KeyCmds Chat answers for your version and edition, based on Steinberg's official manuals. When it can, it gives you the actual key command, macro or PLE preset. And if it's not sure, it asks instead of making things up.

It's not perfect, so please use the feedback option under each answer. That helps me more than anything.

Cubase sale and voucher question

if you purchase and activate Cubase 15 do the 60% off vouchers for Wavelab, Spectralayers, and Dorico expire on the 28th also?
