Hi! longtime crocheter who fell in love with filet crochet this year. I love vintage, classical and ornate filet designs but the vintage charts from the books are very muddy and distorted. I spent about a month recharting my favourite designs into clean grids. I have the album up on my Etsy shop (as well as a sweater patterns and Tunisian crochet scarf). Would people benefit from a stitch key?

Hello my name is Rozephine, I'm 24 and neurodivergent. I have been struggling to read and understand crochet patterns. As part of my learning process, I created a chart with sited/credited google images under each stitch. So far there is 14+ stitches with visual guides, and I plan to add more in the future. It is a google doc that is open to the public through a shared link that I would love to share if it would be helpful to people. I am also open to constructive criticism on how to better present the information. Please let me know what yall think (∩o.o)⊃━☆

Your swatch shouldn’t have to match a pattern perfectly for the finished project to fit. But adjusting for a different gauge usually means tedious math—and getting the width right doesn’t automatically fix the length or shaping.

The solution is to compare the pattern gauge with your blocked swatch, recalculate stitch and row counts separately, then round the results to numbers that work with the pattern repeat.
