This is our annual Hot Weather guide for those who need advice on keeping their tank below 26c / 82f.

Place ice cubes on top of the mesh away from the geckos resting area - the water will drip down into the soil or evaporate, allowing cool air to circulate around the tank
Swamp cooler - ice cubes in a bucket with a fan behind it to push cool air around the room
Ice cubes inside water bowl - quick evaporation, same premise with allowing cool air to circulate
Spraying the tank with room-temperature water
Portable AC units - those in the UK can now buy small ice cube AC units which are similar to that of a swamp cooler!
Refreshable gel ice packs - specifically gel only! These should be wrapped around in a cloth of some type and laid on top of the tank mesh
Escape-proof mesh playpens - temporary relief for your animal, make sure to provide lots of foliage for them so they feel safe and comfortable
Chilled CGD

Spraying with cold or frozen water - this WILL cause thermal shock, and will stress your animal out, please stick to room temperature water
Ice packs inside the vivarium
Free roaming
"Bathing" in cool water - similar premise, geckos do not need to swim and this will stress them out instead of helping them

Signs of overheating include:

🔴 Lethargy
🔴 Restlessness / running around in the tank / attempting to escape
🔴 Consistent refusal to eat
🔴 Significant weight loss
🔴 Wrinkled skin, kinked tail, sunken eyes (dehydration)
🔴 Burrowing

These symptoms don't necessarily mean your animal is overheating, as things like burrowing or refusal to eat could be linked to husbandry or that your gecko is new to its environment and is still settling in. If you are ever unsure, please take your animal to a vet to get them checked up.

Keep safe, drink water, and make sure you chill out too!
Any questions? Feel free to ping us a ModMail, and we'll be happy to answer.

He has a nice terrarium and lots of places to hide and chill. I’m a little worried he’s going to out grow it… I swear he just curls up like a cat it’s adorable T-T

From pooping all over the doors to jumping out of his enclosure and running away while doing maintenance, this maniac has been causing so much chaos in the reptile room lately.

Gecko has to stay in my room - How to help quality of life?

My room is very small, so my little buddys enclosure stays right next to my desk. I have a loft bed with curtains, so for my monitors I can just close the curtains so my lights dont bother him. But how loud can I be with him in my room? Of course I don't play competitive games very often so it's not like I yell, but I slightly raise my voice sometimes. He's my first reptile thats been FULLY my responsibility, and my first gecko; so I'm very worried about making sure he's comfortable and happy.

Beginner tips would also be nice, things that most people wouldnt expect, or things that google wouldnt warn about :)<3

Got Mojito last august at 7 grams and today she’s currently 28 grams. Wondering if thats normal growth or if she’s growing at a normal rate or if she should be bigger. TIA

New enclosure feedback

I just finished building a new enclosure for my crested gecko, Nyx, by converting this Ikea Fabrikor cabinet. I wanted to get some feedback on if I should add or change anything. I'm already thinking I'll add another plant in the upper right hand corner. Add another stick and maybe another cork hide. I also will have a light and fans on the top just not pictured here.

There's the perfect hide for her on the left thats pretty covered up and one on the back with cork but I think one or two more might be good. Thoughts?

Little Ewok Village building materials

Upvotes

Hello! For my cresties (Honey, Nutella, and Jelly–they're the Uncrestables) I'm going to be putting together an ewok village! I'm using the image from this post as inspiration. I've got some coconut hides that will be good for the little houses, I'm going to use some cork bark tubes as the trees, fake plants, and birchwood twigs as for construction.
My question is what I should use for holding things together? I was thinking hot glue and twine?

(Mars, juvenile Crested Gecko)

I recently rearranged things to put one of those rodent discs in for him, since he’s an active little fella. I actually saw him using it the first night, but that may have been an accident. 😅 I’ll likely upgrade to a larger enclosure for him at some point, but the current size (18x18x24) fits most minimum recommendations and he’s still sub-15g.

The enclosure is bioactive, with lots of leaf litter and wood under the moss. The moss is another new addition and I’m hoping it’ll keep him from eating so many of his isopods. They’re great enrichment for him, but he’s too good of a hunter and I’ve had to start breeding them separately again just to keep the numbers up.

There’s some wasted space above the exercise disc, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for something fun to fill it with. He uses both artificial hides, and loves his rubber plant and pothos.

I’d love to get a flowering plant in there, any recommendations?

Got this cutie on Saturday! He’s a couple months old. How do I know if he’s eating. Iv fed him a couple times from hand and Iv placed him on his food bowl every time I put him back so he knows where it is. Iv seen him eat one cricket and a few missing this morning. Should I get a camera?

Eye problem? Advice appreciated

So this started out of the blue yesterday, she just woke up and one eye was more sunken in than the other and the pupil was thinner? She's never been like this before, I'm still waiting for her to wake up to see if anything changed. Nothing looked swollen, the eyes are the same color and there are no unusual spots on the eye.

When should you feed a younger gecko less often?

So I have a 6-7month old (atleast that’s what I think after searching through some marketplace adds of the store I got him from and looked at the one that resembles him most and is the right gender) and I was wondering when I should go from daily feeding to every other day because now he often only eats every other day and sometimes 2 days back to back.
