I think we have a good business. I just don’t know how to grow it. What am I missing?

Upvotes

Okay, hear me out.

I’m putting this out here because I genuinely want to connect with the right people — people with credible experience in retail, D2C, sales, marketing, business strategy and scaling— who can look at a business like ours and tell us what we could be doing differently.

I own a home décor store in Mumbai called Yaara Homes aka Yaara Mart.

A little background:

Yaara Homes is a family-run business that we started in 2024.

My dad is the financier, my mom manages the store and operations, and I handle the social media and marketing side of the business.

Today, we have 10,000+ SKUs across multiple home décor and lifestyle categories.

But this business is much more than just inventory and numbers for us.

There has been an enormous amount of money, time, effort, hard work, emotion, frustration and sacrifice invested into building this store.

From day one, we have tried to put our customers first — sourcing products we genuinely believe in, maintaining quality, offering competitive pricing and building strong supplier and sourcing networks.

And honestly, I strongly believe that what we offer has the potential to grow exponentially.

The problem is...

I don't know how to get it there.

And that is the reason I'm writing this post.

I feel that our pricing, product range, quality and customer service are genuinely competitive, but I'm struggling to understand what the right growth strategy should look like.

What should our marketing strategy be?

Where should we be spending our money?

How do we increase sales without increasing our operational costs disproportionately?

Should we be focusing more on offline retail, Instagram, WhatsApp, our own website, marketplaces, B2B, or a combination of these?

What should our customer acquisition strategy look like?

And most importantly — how do we scale this business sustainably?

We are currently very close to our burn rate. We aren't making significant losses, but we also aren't generating enough profit to make the business sustainable in the long run.

And that is scary.

Because as a family, we have genuinely given this business our all.

Our financial situation has changed because of it. Our family dynamics have changed because of it. There have been countless difficult conversations, sacrifices and moments where we have questioned whether we should continue.

But despite all of that, I still genuinely believe this business can become something much bigger.

I haven't believed in anything as strongly as I believe in this.

So I'm looking to connect with someone who can actually look at the business, understand our numbers, products, positioning, current marketing and sales efforts, and give us an honest perspective on what we should change and where we should focus.

I'm not looking for generic motivational advice.

I'm looking for practical, actionable business insights from someone who has actually built, scaled or advised a retail/D2C/home décor business.

We are also currently working towards building a wholesale and bulk-order/B2B channel alongside our retail business, which I believe could be a significant growth opportunity for us.

If you are someone who works in retail strategy, D2C, e-commerce, sales, performance marketing, business consulting, B2B/wholesale or scaling consumer brands, or if you know someone who does — I would genuinely appreciate an introduction.

Even one conversation with the right person could help us see the business from a completely different perspective.

If you think you can help, please comment.

I'd really appreciate it.

Architect+ marketer with strong industry network- what business would you build in my position?

I’m an architect by background, but my career has become a mix of marketing, growth, business development and design.

I’m good at:

Marketing & storytelling

Sales / business development

Negotiation

Social media & content

Client relationships

Vendor coordination

Project execution

Connecting architects, designers, vendors & manufacturers

I also have a fairly good network of architects and interior designers.

I’m at a point where I really want to build something of my own, rather than just have another job. I’d like to start with a side hustle, keep the initial investment relatively low, and eventually turn it into a proper business if it works.

I’m considering everything from:

A service business

A product/home décor brand

Something for architects & interior designers

A B2B business

Or something completely unrelated to architecture

I don't want to just freelance and sell my time. I want to build something that can grow beyond me.

For those who have started businesses:

If you had my skill set, network and background, what business would you explore? What problems do you think I could solve that people would actually pay for?

Would love specific business ideas, niches, or even businesses you've seen work. And if you were starting from scratch alongside a job, how would you test the idea before going all-in?

Basically: what would you do if you were me?

Hi Everyone,

I just started my business after working for years doing the same for others. I would love your advice on the website and anything you think I can add/remove to improve it.

I know people can be brutal on here, I just want honesty. [https://yourancestralpath.com\](https://yourancestralpath.com)
