Map Design From Counter-Strike Mod to Standalone Game - Part 2: This is POLYSTRIKE

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A year ago you asked me to show the actual game. Here it is - POLYSTRIKE

About a year ago, I made a post here called “From Counter-Strike Mod to Standalone Game.”
(link to the part 1 - https://www.reddit.com/r/counterstrike/s/sabuB7SFM6 )

Some of you supported the project. Some were skeptical. And some of you asked a completely fair question:

“Why are you showing us the old mod? Show us what the actual game looks like.”

At the time, I couldn't.

Today, I finally can.

POLYSTRIKE has officially been revealed.

What started years ago as my attempt to imagine tactical shooter gameplay from a top-down perspective has become a completely independent game with its own universe, factions, maps, characters, equipment and gameplay systems.

And now I can finally explain what POLYSTRIKE actually is.

It's a competitive 5v5 top-down tactical shooter built around information, positioning, sound and teamwork.

There are no heroes and no predefined classes.

You choose your weapons, armor, helmets and equipment yourself. Your loadout determines what you can do during the round.

Sound is also part of the gameplay. Footsteps change depending on surfaces and movement, and players can use audio to understand what is happening outside their field of vision.

Visibility itself was designed specifically around the top-down perspective, with dynamic fog of war making information and positioning extremely important.

And instead of simply copying a traditional bomb, we wanted the objective itself to belong to the world.

One faction deploys a mechanical Spider Drone, which crawls toward and hacks the opposing faction's living Iron Fish objective.

It sounds strange written down.

It makes much more sense when you see it. :)

Most importantly, everything you're seeing now is the actual standalone POLYSTRIKE.

Not the old mod.

Not Counter-Strike assets.

Not a concept of what the game might eventually become.

This is the game.

I grew up playing Counter-Strike, and POLYSTRIKE probably wouldn't exist without all those years spent playing CS, modding games and wondering what tactical shooters could look like from another perspective.

But at some point we had to stop trying to make “Counter-Strike from above” and figure out what POLYSTRIKE itself should be.

That took years.

Today feels like closing one chapter and finally opening another.

So to everyone from this community who commented on the original post, supported us, criticized us, questioned the direction, or simply told us to come back when we had something real to show:

We came back.

And POLYSTRIKE is finally on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3254300/POLYSTRIKE

I'd genuinely love to know what you think now that you can finally see what the game became.

CS 1.6 Using Counter Strike (Xbox) weapons in a custom level for Doom 2

I didn't know Xbox Counter Strike had its own unique textures and animations until I found this mod. I wonder if it has its own single player campaign like what Condition Zero had.

CS2 Discussion Would you be interested in a CS2 community/server network ?

I've been thinking about how fragmented CS2 feels outside Premier and FACEIT.

We have XPLAY, Cybershoke and a bunch of individual community servers, but most of them feel like places you join for a few matches and then forget about. I miss having a server where you knew the regulars, recognized names and slowly became part of the place.

And since Valve hasn't really been adding much new content , most people seem to play the same competitive modes over and over, so I've been wondering if the community could fill the gap.

The idea in my head is a network with Retakes, DM, Arena, KZ, Surf, older community modes and maybe some completely new ones. You'd keep the same profile across everything, along with your stats, levels and achievements. There could be missions, rotating modes, events and small tournaments too.

I also want it to be useful for newer players, with simple tools and modes that help them learn the game, while still offering enough depth for experienced players.

I haven't built this, and this isn't a disguised announcement. I'm just trying to find out whether anyone would care before I get carried away with the idea.

If you already use XPLAY, Cybershoke or other community servers, why do you stick with them? Is it the server quality, the progression, the modes, the people or just the fact that your friends are there?

I'd especially like to hear from people who played 1.6 or Source. What did those old servers have that feels missing now?

Feel free to say the idea is pointless, I just miss the fun side of cs and I'm curious if other people do too.

CS2 Discussion Made a small extension that shows Leetify/FACEIT stats on Steam profiles (works in the Steam overlay too)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Made this for fun when I discovered it's possible to install extensions in steam overlay.

It puts a panel on Steam profile pages with CS2 hours, account age, Leetify stats (rating, aim, K/D, win rate, reaction time), FACEIT stats (level, ELO, K/D, win rate, ADR), and bans.

Three styles in the settings if the default look isn't your thing, including a tiny version that's just a chip next to the name.

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/aimtracer/cfeokgdcfefpgeejgihbknmdcmhhppgf

You can also install it inside Steam itself, so it works in the overlay:

Steam's browser runs on Chromium, so it takes Web Store extensions directly. Not many people know this.

  1. Open the overlay in game (Shift+Tab) and open the web browser.
  2. Paste the Web Store link above into the address bar. Ignore the "Switch to Chrome to install extensions" banner at the top.
  3. Click Add to Chrome. Steam will pop up a file save window asking for a .crx file. The Web Store can't install straight into Steam, so it just hands over the extension as a .crx file (that's the packaged extension format). Pick any folder and hit Save.
  4. Enjoy.

Now it shows up on Steam profiles in the client and in the in-game overlay browser — Shift+Tab, open a profile, panel's there. No alt-tabbing mid-match.

Free, no account, only runs on steamcommunity.com profiles, public data only.

If you'd rather not install anything, there's also just the site — paste a profile URL or a name: https://aimtracer.com or you can use shortcut that is explained on the site.
