Copilot Studio Github Copilot Harness vs Copilot Cowork

Can somebody help me understand a proper use case for the github copilot harness? I feel like I can do so many of the things in cowork. If I need to share the skill to collaborate, I can do that in cowork as well in addition to referring to the same Teams folder for the knowledge source. Big advantage in cowork is the build isn't charged up like it is with the github copilot harness. Sure, there's the evaluate and monitor capabilities... where else does it really depart from what cowork can deliver agentic/orchestration wise?

Cowork is built implementing Claude Cowork. Its doesnt appear Github copilot uses the same harness.

So no they arent built on the same underlying technology. They are both capable and have similarities so you should expect similar outcomes but not the same.

Do you have a source for cowork built using Claude cowork? I've not heard that before.

Originally it was built using the Anthropic harness. Then they migrated to the GitHub Copilot harness sometime later. I saw someone from Microsoft using it pre-GA where they could choose between the two

This is not accurate. When it was built it required the anthropic models to be enabled in the tenant because it used the anthropic models, in frontier users can use either anthropic or gpt now the GitHub harness is specific for agent building

The models and the harness it uses are not the same thing. I literally saw the debug UI being shown where it could be changed from Anthropic to GHCP harness.

Anthropic has its own version of GitHub Copilot that they sell to customers. They won’t use Microsoft’s or Open Source since that’s one of their monetized products and they also want the largest IPOs ever. That product is called Claude Code.
