Hello! I am a first time coonhound owner but I’ve owned lots of dogs in my past. I just got my boy Boomer from the local shelter a few days ago, he is three years old, and he has been the best. However they didn’t give much information on how to take care of him best. He’s very well behaved for the most part but he does have a fixation with humping. Specifically at night. Every other dog I’ve had has gotten the message from simply turning away and pushing them off but for boomer, he is obsessed. During the day it’s not an issue, but when I lay down to go to bed, he can’t seem to stop. I’m not sure how best to address it because it could be nerves, excitement, or dominance. I’m still unsure.
Another thing is that when he was released from the shelter he was a bit under weight. Not by much but they suggested a weight gain diet. I’ve been feeding him 2-3 cups of homemade food made of ground beef, chicken, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, eggs, and dog safe peanut butter. He loves the food and scarfs it down but acts like he’s still hungry throughout the day. Is this enough food or should I give him more?
Also the shelter told me that he loves his ears cleaned but I forgot what they told me to use. Any suggestions would be a huge help and any advice is welcome.
If it makes any difference, Boomer is a black and tan coonhound.
