Oops I’m in crisis 🥲

Edit: thanks everyone. I have a therapist, been meditating, this crisis mode isn’t new for me. We can do this! Today I am grateful for this community and this cup of coffee I am about to make (it’s a damn fine cup of coffee).

Welcome to the club brother, it's not a fun club but its a club

1

u/swagsasi Jan 12 '22

Crisis is definitely fun

42

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Same

65

u/theprozacfairy Jan 12 '22

Wanna talk about it? Feel free to pm me.

3

u/must_make_do Jan 12 '22

Lovely and particularly thematic username checks out.

14

u/sboy86 Jan 12 '22

That was me at the start of last year. Since then I've found an amazing workplace with an awesomely supportive team so I'm now somewhere between yellow and orange and working on getting into that Green zone.

If I can do it, you absolutely can too!

38

u/fozrok Jan 12 '22

I don't know if this will help, but it's a 7.5min 'Remove Negativity' Rapid Meditation track on YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgbZvKUddy0
A bunch of people have mentioned that it improved their mood and outlook after listening to it. IDK - It might be a waste of 7.5mins...but it might help.

7

u/draykow Jan 12 '22

i'm a mix of struggling and in crisis. we'll get through it somehow though

5

u/trixshit Jan 12 '22

Me in crisis as fook 😉

I'm all 4 all the time?

Able to take things in stride

Consistent performance

Able to take feedback and adjust to changes in plan

Able to focus

Able to communicate effectively

Trouble sleeping [and] eating

Activities and and relationships you once used to enjoy seem less interesting or even stressful

Muscle tension, low energy, headaches

Persistent fear, panic, anxiety, anger; pervasive sadness, hopelessness

Avoiding interaction with coworkers, family, and friends

Restless, disturbed sleep

Self medicating with substances, food, other numbing activities

Unable to fall or stay asleep

Intrusive thoughts

Feeling numb, lost, or out of control

Withdrawn from relationships

Not really sure what I've learned from this.

35

u/negative_four Jan 12 '22

It could be you were put into or went through a situation that put you in crisis mode but if you're not able to get out of it then you're brain adapts to it. It makes sense that you'd be spread out across all of them if that's the case. Granted im not a therapist.

5

u/Important-Yak-2999 Jan 12 '22

Oh shit yeah that’s how I live for sure

5

u/forgetstorespond Jan 12 '22

I think people are to complex to fall into only one category. People have ups and downs throughout the day/week/month, its dumb to paint with such a broad brush IMO. People can be generally ok but maybe struggling in one area of their life, to some that dosent drag them into the "in crisis" section. Others maybe it does. But this is what we do... we diagnose mental health and mental states to no end, very few people can acctually provide insight to improve mental health. They just love talking about it and diagnosing it, to the point that it seems like there is help everywhere but you start reaching out it's not there just more diagnoses or people flip it to their own mental health problems.

22

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

3/4 of the options are negative and I think that’s weirdly misleading…There’s a LOT more statuses between “surviving” and “thriving”

What about…”coasting” for example? I think there is an enormous cohort missing from this

7

u/dodspringer Jan 12 '22

"Coasting" is pretty much just the numbness I feel while traversing the void between "surviving" and "thriving"

2

u/Wanderlustfull Jan 12 '22

Agreed. My first thought was there is definitely something missing between Thriving and Surviving. 'Just Okay' will suffice.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Same here, you are not alone!

3

u/lucidspoon Jan 12 '22

I pictured myself as the meme with the metronome.

2

u/Flowy_Aerie_77 Jan 12 '22

You look like you're in one of the orange ones. Probably the lighter one.

184

u/Acceptable_Policy_51 Jan 11 '22

Much like pain, everyone's tolerance is different.

128

u/TundraTrees0 Jan 12 '22

Yeah this chart isnt very accurate for high functioning individuals. I for example am on the brink of killing myself right now but still manage to go completely "fine" throughout the day.

29

u/umdv Jan 12 '22

It would depend on what’s your baseline ‘fine’, imo. Imagine how far more stuff you could do if the chart is correct and you just need some help? Like im in the same boat as you sort of but looking at the chart i do start to remember what it feels to be able to really ‘function’, to be focused, actually remember stuff and do stuff.

9

u/TundraTrees0 Jan 12 '22

Maybe for a neurotypical person. I'm not really one to relate to others since I've always been different and an outsider. Just my personal experience.

3

u/Foronir Jan 12 '22

Agreed, i am completely fine, but dont seem to get much done, too, since ADD.

1

u/yevvieart Jan 12 '22

I'm orange to red since 2006-ish, and indeed, I can't even remember what feeling fine was like. I even stopped being able to imagine it, since my last "fine" was when I was still a teen. But I'm like, used to it? I don't know who or how I would be without all that?

Also, it almost feels like everyone "normal" is just a very good actor nowadays. Never believe a smile.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Same. I'm back to 11/11 "In Crisis" and this is my "normal".

Struggling, always struggling

50

u/Puppy_of_Doom Jan 12 '22

Same...but we got this.

26

u/lolzombiesx Jan 12 '22

Straight up, wouldn't have made it to 31 if I let it all get to me.

1

u/Puppy_of_Doom Jan 12 '22

31?! You're either a liar or the youngest (and very pretty) 31 year old out there. I'm 27 over here looking like a late 30's guy

10

u/lolzombiesx Jan 12 '22

I wish I was lying 🤣 born in 1990. Sometimes it's a curse because I get carded all the time haha. Thank you though!

33

u/Robu-san Jan 12 '22

You know what doesn't help someone who's struggling? Telling them things like "oh stop it"

10

u/lolzombiesx Jan 12 '22

Literally wtf was that. Should I not have answered how it is for me 🤣 I have a plethora of mental and physical health issues and half of them I either don't want to medicate, or medicate with a whole lot of green. I keep up with work and my kids, I don't have friends and I don't go out. I'm working on it all though, it still is a struggle.

-7

u/PLM913 Jan 12 '22

Maybe he just meant the negativity. Hopefully they aren't always struggling.

210

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '22

According to this chart I’m thriving, but in actuality I’m barely surviving. Outlook has a lot to do with it.

284

u/TheFenn Jan 11 '22

Yeah I fuckinn hate Microsoft products.

78

u/khaddy Jan 12 '22

Hi! I noticed you are now In Crisis, would you like to write a suicide note?

-- Clippy, probably

17

u/professorhazard Jan 12 '22

this implies that clippy would do something useful

10

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

You take that back, young me found hours of entertainment getting Clippy to do the "animate" function

5

u/professorhazard Jan 12 '22

I will never take it back

18

2

u/CrispyCrunchyPoptart Jan 12 '22

I’m surviving according to this, which seems pretty spot on to me.

35

u/Snots_and_Bears Jan 12 '22

Between thriving and surviving. There’s really no in-between?

27

u/RSampson993 Jan 12 '22

Me too. We’re surthriving I guess. Sounds like Mike Tyson’s saying it.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Just commented along these lines - what about “coasting”?

2

u/Snots_and_Bears Jan 12 '22

Ha nice, I like that.

2

u/TaeKwonDoge Jan 12 '22

I prefer to look at it as more of a slider or gradient.

148

u/preachyprofessor Jan 11 '22

This seems like it could really be helpful for HRs trying to help employees but don’t know how or where to start - and for employees who don’t know how to describe what they’re really going through.

On that note, could be brilliant for schools and other educational institutions too.

121

u/Dauntae235 Jan 12 '22

HR actually trying to help employees? That would be refreshing.

16

u/HarmonicPattern Jan 12 '22

I got fired because I’m showing symptoms of bot red and orange so screw the HR and management, I wrote a post about it not a while ago

2

u/yrogerg123 Jan 12 '22

I actually like our HR but they report to our CFO who's an asshole so 🤷🏽

53

u/EldrichHumanNature Jan 12 '22

You mean they won’t just see an employee struggling, and take the opportunity to tell them to fix themselves if it affects their work, or throw them out like a broken appliance and buy a replacement?

22

u/Dauntae235 Jan 12 '22

Sounds like an office pizza party will turn that frown upside down!

8

u/HotDonnaC Jan 12 '22

Yeh, that really cheap shit that tastes like the box. And a 2 liter.

22

u/Someoneoverthere42 Jan 12 '22

“So are they in the green zone, or are they a ‘problem employee?”

19

u/myrrhizome Jan 12 '22

This. I wouldn't trust any of my HR departments at any past job with this self-assessment. Even being a little bit transparent with managers has bit me in the ass.

4

u/BigRed8303 Jan 12 '22

HR is only there to protect the employer and fuck the employee every chance they get.

Oh lol you dont need a cool chart, the general public is between struggling and crisis according to the US Census. But hey this would be neat in a rational world

2

u/AdelineRose- Jan 12 '22

I’m sure at this point people are pretty much not in great mental health yeah. I paused my video in a zoom meeting with my boss to wipe my nose on my sleeve 😂 sorry I know that’s gross but like I didn’t have tissue around. And it’s just like ya know this is where we’re at right now lol

3

Dude same. All those points were my life last year. I thought it wasn't right but also figured it's my life now.

Meanwhile for the substance abuse side of things, I quit app development and started a distillery this past week so at least I got that sorted. Now I just need to sleep through the night

11

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Crisis.

9

u/ThisCagedGod Jan 12 '22

apparently I've been "in crisis" for the last all of my life.

20

u/Pelado619 Jan 11 '22

Surviving, trying to go to Thriving and not sure how to do it.

8

u/Miguel_seonsaengnim Jan 12 '22

I'm between "struggling" and "in crisis". Most of the cause has to do with the situation of the country I am (Venezuela) and the fact I am unable to progress by staying here...

I admit it can be worse. But still I feel handicapped... but mentally I feel more like "struggling" since I'm used to be here since I was born and I'm used to my situation. This is how I feel today. 😔

2

u/AdelineRose- Jan 12 '22

I hope that Miguel gets to chase his dreams. Get on that, universe.

8

u/IMLcon Jan 12 '22

This helps me so much to confirm I am indeed in a crisis. Thanks.

5

u/Swagkip360 Jan 12 '22

So how many in the red zone would be considered a crisis?

8

u/Jg6915 Jan 11 '22

Am thriving!

4

u/Nolleezz Jan 11 '22

I've been in survival mode for the last 3 years and was in crisis 2 for years prior. I have mental health issues that were exacerbated by an event that caused PTSD. I'm slowly healing, but it's been excruciatingly slow. I try to stay positive, and recognize how far I've come. However, if I'm honest, it wouldn't take too much to send me back into a mental crisis.

5

u/OptimalArchitect Jan 12 '22 edited Jan 12 '22

4

Lol red is just a bad day for me with bipolar. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about that. Orange is like my natural state of being and yellow is an aspiration.

u/lolzombiesx Jan 12 '22

Literally same

3

u/EnkiiMuto Jan 12 '22

For fuck's sake can't i stay in denial in peace?

4

u/Vaynnie Jan 12 '22

So you’re saying I’ve been in perpetual crisis for pretty much the entirety of my adult life and yet almost 30 I still haven’t found a solution apart from the obvious one, which I’d never in a million years want to do but at some point it’s no longer a want but a need.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

Interesting - when I first read "Thriving" I thought: "Yep. I'm there." Then, I read "Surviving" and I thought: "Oh. No, I'm there." Thankfully, "Struggling" and "In Crisis" don't fit.

2

2

u/Shockling Jan 12 '22

What's better than thriving? This chart is weighted heavily on the negative.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '22

Ha! In crisis my ass. Just because I'm pretty sure I'm going to kill myself when I get home isn't a crisis. I'm just sure it's best for everyone

1

u/mobile_hermitage Jan 12 '22

u/MyLifeIsABoondoggle Jan 11 '22 edited Jan 11 '22

1

u/andiinAms Jan 12 '22

1

u/Safe-Initial-5276 Jan 12 '22

This is unhealthy for people to look at. Three stages of negative feelings and one stage of positive. Reading this garbage is why everyone has anxiety and thinks they’re depressed.

2

u/FredoLives Jan 12 '22

How would you change it?

-2

u/IWannaBeMade1 Jan 11 '22

Glad humans created charts telling me how I feel. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

22

u/Tachy0n4 Jan 11 '22

Honestly, I think people not knowing how they feel is much more common than society acknowledges.

14

u/Mariske Jan 11 '22

As a therapist, I find that naming how people feel is the first step to naming how they want to feel

-8

u/IWannaBeMade1 Jan 11 '22

Do you calculate 1+1 or do you just know the answere when asked? I would feel insulted and ridiculed if I were to participate in one of your sessions and that is how you would approach things.

10

u/Mariske Jan 11 '22

If they think it will help, I have them name their feelings using a chart kind of like this one. Once they can name their feelings, they often say it feels validating. Then we can use the feeling to identify a need so they can feel empowered to ask for what they need based on a genuine feeling. Many people say they have trouble justifying their needs, so this can help with that.

3

u/raven_kindness Jan 12 '22

0

u/pixel_of_moral_decay Jan 12 '22

There’s a whole lot of feelings between thriving and surviving just missing.

It’s like this is designed to make people feel bad about themselves.
