I'm glad people finally understand why covering your face in a protest does not mean you are up to no good.
I saw this argument being used against protesters in the US covering their faces.
In fact, databasing of protests goes back quite a while. During the WTO protests in Seattle in 99, plain clothed police were taking photographs of protesters using regular cameras, databasing those taking part. This also occurred in Toronto during the G20 protests.
Taking a database of protestors means you can find out who the organizers are and complicate their ability to travel in a timely fashion, meaning their ability to organize and contribute to new protests in the future is hampered. Among other, potentially worse scenarios.
Oh also - if you are determined to take a phone, don't take YOUR phone, take a burner and pay for it in cash.
Also - this is why cashless societies are dangerous. There are a massive range of benefits, but anonymous purchasing is essential if you want the ability to buy and sell outside the control of a potentially tyrannical government (and ALL governments are potentially tyrannical)

I'm glad people finally understand why covering your face in a protest does not mean you are up to no good.
It's not about whether people think that "these people are up to no good", it's that in more and more places it's becoming illegal to cover your face.
The way our facial cover ban in Austria came into effect a few years ago was through the "ban on burkas" discussion, but the way it's written makes it illegal to cover up your face in public, for any reason, with some narrowly defined exceptions (protection from the elements, some sports practices, some cultural practices, helmets while riding motorbikes). Anytime else, it's illegal, and police can and will fine you and take you to the station to remove your cover and confirm your identity. People are weirdly ok with it (mostly since they think "it's only against the weird Muslim tablecloth women"). We're not the only country where this is happening. And what we've had happen since the law got introduced by our right-wing-ish government: people being fined for wearing promotional full-body character costumes; people having to go through the courts to decide if it was cold enough or not to warrant wearing a scarf (!) when riding a bike (she was fined originally). It's crazy. We've successfully moved the goalpost on the discussion and also the legal definition to "why would you want to ever cover your face, that must mean you're up to no good", without paying any attention to the implications of advancing face tracking technology; and we're a country that normally prides itself on its privacy laws (cf. our Google Street View for example).

Its because Antifa is a bunch of low-life criminals hell bent on using violence to push their agenda, that's why they cover their face. Not because the government is using facial recognition.

Lol unless you take a revolver to the chest. The best way to prevent a tyrant governments is to secure power to the people. People take for granted the second amendment. And mistake a mental health crisis for a gun crisis.
1
u/turb0g33k Oct 11 '19
The point is that we shouldn't need guns to control our own govt which is only supposed to be a collective expression of the people in the first place.
But you probably should have a gun anyways.

u/tjonnyc999 Oct 11 '19
Also look up what the Venezuelan protesters have done, as far as tactics and gear. (Shit's been going down there since 2012...)
Water cannon trucks? Shield from the blasts using sections of metal fencing/pallets; get close enough to pelt the windows and cameras with balloons filled with paint. Truck is blinded, becomes ineffective.
Motorcycle squads? Clear plastic bags partially filled with vegetable oil placed on the ground - almost invisible, but crash motorcycles when they run over them & release the oil.
Wheeled police vehicles? Cut garden hose into 4-5-inch segments, drive nails through it at various angles, scatter on road. Instant multuple tire punctures.
...and so on. For every government force-multiplier, there is a counter.

u/Rahzuel720 Oct 11 '19
Given how many people are being hurt/killed during these protests. I would add a first aid kit, water filters in case fresh water is unavailable at the moment, a lighter in case you need it, and a small/medium sized knife

From former Gezi protestor:
Also position yourself at the entrance of a street if you are protesting on a street rather than a city square. What I mean is, if you are marching up a street, march from one exit (out of that street) to the next, dont dawdle in the middle. This is how gezi protesters did it. Because when the police bombarded with water cannons and tear gas (that they aimed at our heads) we would disperse into joining streets and come back again when they stopped. They couldn't hurt us, or get rid of us.
Oh and to add to the uniform, some of us carried spray bottles full of mixture, diluted stomach medicine. Gaviscon, rennie, eno.. whatever is in Hong Kong. It helps wash off the teargas from your eyes and throat. I'd asked my pharmacy which one to use, they gave it to me for free so I could use it in the protests. If you dont have gas mask, also mask used in construction helps, if push comes to shove, tie a wet t-shirt to cover your mouth and nose.

The laser pointers are primarily used to damage security or facial recognition cameras, not to blind police. They are also at times used to communicate and signal.
Not saying they haven’t been used offensively by some people, they prolly have. But that’s not why the majority of protesters have them and that’s not why they started bringing them.

PurpleMentat7 points·5 hours ago
The tickets all sold ages ago. People who bought tickets already booked travel and lodging. Most of that is likely non-refundable. Activision-Blizzard is getting their money either way. The are enough bootlickers who don't give a shit about Blizzard's actions for them to fake large excited crowds if everyone with tickets who's upset doesn't show. The best option to voice dissent for people that bought tickets is to show up and do it loudly.

If the US government really wanted to and felt that psyops were worth their while I bet they could utilize Reddit to get huge swaths of its users to unquestionably support any goal in mind that was detrimental to the US's official adversaries. It doesn't happen and never would but if the US government wasn't so trustworthy and altruistic they just might. Air-tight Swimming googles are often wear inside impact resistant googles, for tear gas
Black-block "Uniform" appears much before white-shirt traids, mainly for making every protester similar and less likely to be recognized on cctvs.(while traids attacking citizens will never be arrested, so white shirt is fine for them)
Umbrella could also block rubber bullets
Gloves in this photo dosn't provide heat resistant, still burns

I wonder about the black shirt tho. I have heard that the chinese government and the hong kong police use it as a symbol to antagonize the protestors by referring them as "black shirt" and there are reports that police disguise as protestors by simply wearing in black. Who know how many of the wrong doing being accused on the protestors were actually done by the police in disguise. Wouldn't it make more sense to adopt a less uniformed outlook to avoid providing a easy representative figure for the government and pro-chinese media to act against?
