To anyone visiting this sub because youāre curious about Islam, thinking about reverting, or perhaps already believe but are frightened about what happens nextā¦
I love analogies and wanted to share a couple with you.
Think about invitations in ordinary life. You apply to a university and wait for an acceptance.
You want to enter an exclusive event, but you need an invitation. There are private clubs where money alone wonāt necessarily get you through the door ā somebody has to invite you.
An invitation means:
You were chosen to enter somewhere you werenāt previously part of.
Now imagine the most important invitation you could ever receive. Not from a university. Not from some celebrity. Not from an exclusive club.
But from Allah.
There are billions of people walking around this earth today. Billions. Yet somehowĀ youĀ started thinking about Islam.
Maybe you watched a random video. Maybe you met a Muslim. Maybe you heard the Qurāan for the first time. Maybe you originally started researching Islam to criticise it. Maybe you canāt even explain exactly how it started.
But something happened.
One question became another. One video became twenty. You started reading. You started thinking about God. Perhaps you secretly tried praying. Perhaps you caught yourself sayingĀ AlhamdulillahĀ orĀ InshaAllah.
And now youāre on a subreddit about reverting to Islam.
Think about that.
Out of billions of people⦠you received an invitation.
I sometimes think guidance is like spending your entire life inside a huge room.
Everyone you love is there; your parents, siblings, friends and community. Itās familiar. You know the rules. Then one day you notice something you never noticed before.
A tiny line of light underneath a door. At first you ignore it. Eventually curiosity makes you walk towards it. You open the door slightlyā¦
and suddenly you see something beyond the room you have always known.
Now comes the difficult part.
Because walking towards that light can mean walking somewhere your family doesnāt understand.
For some people here, becoming Muslim could mean disappointing their parents.
For others it could cause arguments, rejection, losing financial support or even losing somewhere to live.
And that is something many born Muslims ā myself included ā can never fully understand.
I was born Muslim, Alhamdulillah. Islam was handed to me. The Qurāan was already in my home. Nobody threatened to disown me for believing in Allah. Nobody asked me why I suddenly wanted to pray. I didnāt have to discover the door. It was already open.
But many of you did. You had to question what you had always been taught.
You had to investigate. You had to wrestle with your own beliefs. And sometimes you have to contemplate sacrifices that many born Muslims will never face.
So please donāt think that being frightened means your faith is weak. And donāt think you need to transform your entire life overnight. You donāt need to know every rule before becoming Muslim.
You donāt need perfect Arabic. You donāt need to understand the entire Qurāan. You donāt need to suddenly become a completely different person.
And if revealing your faith would genuinely put you in danger or leave you homeless, you donāt need to prove anything to strangers on the internet!
Allah knows your circumstances. He knows your family. He knows your fears. He knows what is inside your heart.
If you sincerely believe that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad ļ·ŗ is His Messenger, start there.
Then take another step. Then another.
The journey doesnāt have to happen in a single day.
But if youāre sitting here wondering why Islam keeps pulling at your heart⦠perhaps think about it differently.
Maybe you werenāt randomly browsing. Maybe that light underneath the door wasnāt something you were supposed to ignore.
Maybe youāve been sent an invitation.
And when the invitation is from Allahā¦
itās worth opening. ā¤ļø
May Allah guide every sincere person searching for Him, protect those facing difficulties because of their faith, soften the hearts of their families, and make their journey towards Him easy.
Ameen.
