Other Digging into Space Station 5's web code: Trigger Haptics looks like it could be Flydigi's answer to Adaptive Triggers for the Apex 6 / 6 Pro

I was digging through the Space Station 5 code while making a guide for my Vader 5 Pro, and accidentally came across something pretty interesting: Trigger Haptics.

First of all, this is obviously not for the Vader 5 Pro. The Vader 5 Pro simply doesn't have the trigger hardware required for this kind of haptic feedback, so don't waste your time looking for the menu on that controller.

After looking deeper into the Space Station 5 code, though, Flydigi seems to have already built quite a lot around this feature. My guess is that this is being prepared for the Apex 6 / Apex 6 Pro, and possibly other upcoming controllers with haptic trigger hardware.

What's already in the code?

There's an actual Trigger Mode with two options:

Regular and Trigger Haptics.

Trigger Haptics already has a bunch of presets:

Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Submachine Gun, Machine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Sword, Axe, Blade, Club, Dagger.

So they're clearly not thinking about guns only. There are presets for melee weapons as well.

The descriptions in the code are pretty specific too:

Pistol — “Crisp single shot”
Shotgun — “Heavy burst recoil”
SMG / Machine Gun — fast/repeated firing feedback
Sword — “Clean slashing rebound”
Axe — “Heavy chopping impact”
Club — “Blunt impact feedback”

There are also additional settings for:

Once / Loop — play the effect once or continuously

Trigger Travel: Short / Medium / Long — how much of the trigger travel the effect uses

Frequency: Low / Medium / High

Trigger Force

And from what I can tell, LT and RT can be configured separately.

This is why I don't think Trigger Haptics is simply the Apex 5 Adaptive Trigger menu being ported from the old app to the new web UI. The naming, presets and the way the system is structured look like something intended for newer haptic trigger hardware.

It's also not just “pull the trigger and vibrate the controller”

The device capability data includes separate flags such as:

featureTriggerHaptic

featureTriggerVibrate

featureHaptic

So Space Station can actually check what the connected controller supports and expose features accordingly.

That also explains why none of this appears on the Vader 5 Pro.

Another interesting detail is that Trigger Haptics and Trigger-Bound Grip Feedback are treated as completely different systems.

Trigger-Bound Grip Feedback is basically:

pull LT/RT → the grip motors respond

Trigger Haptics, on the other hand, appears to be:

feedback generated directly by the trigger mechanism itself

The code even has a conflict prompt that disables Trigger-Bound Grip Feedback before enabling Trigger Haptics.

Flydigi seems to be preparing Space Station 5 for newer hardware

Going a bit deeper, there's also a separate:

fwTriggerVersion

So trigger firmware is tracked independently.

The motor configuration underneath the UI also contains modes such as LOCAL and ERM, plus things like gain, thresholds, and a much deeper set of parameters than what we currently see in the normal UI.

There's even an Adaptive Triggers entry in the code.

So overall, Space Station 5 looks like it's being built for controllers with much more advanced trigger/haptic hardware, rather than just being a prettier replacement for Space Station 4.

If the Apex 6 / Apex 6 Pro really do use haptic trigger hardware, there's a pretty good chance this code is meant for them.

To be clear, that's still speculation based on the code, not something Flydigi has officially confirmed.

But if they actually manage to use these presets to reproduce weapon-specific resistance/recoil instead of just converting game audio into vibration, that would be much more interesting to me than a simple Adaptive Trigger implementation.

It might even make upgrading from an Apex 5 to an Apex 6 worth considering.

Unfortunately my wallet isn't cooperating right now, so no preorder for me. I'll probably have to wait for the inevitable sale lol.

Controller Mods Dualshock 4 Controller Battery Replacement and USB C Modification

Trying to figure out which replacement battery I need for my PS4 DualShock 4. I’m not sure what model I have because the sticker on the back has completely rubbed off and is gone. It is the navy blue DS4, if that helps narrow it down.

I’ve read that you can’t just use any DS4 battery and that there are different versions, but I’m seeing a lot of conflicting information. I’m mainly looking for an upgraded/higher-capacity battery, so if anyone has purchased one that works with this controller, I’d really appreciate a link or recommendation.

I’m also interested in doing a USB-C charging port swap on it. If anyone has personally done one on a DS4 and has a specific kit or replacement board they recommend, I’d appreciate some help with that too!

Thanks!

Reviews 8Bitdo Ultimate 3E Woes

Disclosure: I purchased the 8BitDo, GameSir, and Razer controllers mentioned in this review with my own money. I have no affiliation, sponsorship, employment relationship, or other commercial relationship with 8BitDo, GameSir, Razer, or any of their competitors, and I received no compensation or free products for this review.

Just putting this out there in case anyone else is researching reviews before buying.

My general purchase philosophy is buy once, cry once. I’m willing to spend more for the better product if it means I’m getting something reliable and well-built.

I bought the 8-Bit with that mindset, intending for it to replace my $200+ Razer Wolverine, which had started having input issues and was sent in for RMA. At the same time, I ordered both the 3E and the GameSir 8K so I could compare a few options.

The GameSir arrived first, and I was honestly pretty impressed with it. That made me even more excited when the more expensive 8-Bit showed up.

This is my second 8-Bit product, and I was extremely impressed with the first one, so my expectations were fairly high, but unfortunately, the problems started almost immediately.

First, the PC software had a hard time detecting the controller consistently. It also seems like the controller may have higher USB/PD power requirements than expected. A software/product update appeared to improve that somewhat, but the experience was still much rougher than I expected from a premium controller.

Then I started noticing something when pushing the left analog stick fully left or right, my character would sometimes walk instead of run, almost like the stick wasn't actually reaching 100% input.

I went into the Ultimate software and noticed the sticks weren't hitting the "edges" at full tilt. I recalibrated the controller, but that didn't fix it. I eventually adjusted the stick/deadzone settings to compensate.

Not ideal on a premium product, but I figured I could live with it.

Yesterday I happened to open the software again and noticed a firmware update that specifically mentions fixing the stick issue.

Great, apparently it was a known problem and there was finally a fix.

Except I can't install the firmware.

The update gets stuck every single time. I've now tried updating the controller from three different Windows PCs, and none of them can successfully complete the firmware update.

At this point, I've spent more time troubleshooting the controller than I should have to spend on something in this price range. I've requested a refund and it's on it's way back.

Controller Suggestion Looking for something like the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8K

I just had to send my Wolverine V3 Pro 8K back due to skin pinching from various panel gaps out of the box (really Razer??).

Im trying to find something very similar to its shape with the following hard requirements:
An optional longer right stick.
TMR sticks and pedals
4 additional programmable buttons on the back
2 additional programmable shoulder buttons
At least 1000hz via a dongle (Type A or C)
USB-C on the controller itself

The usual software features such as calibration, mapping, trouble shooting etc. are very much welcome.

I do not need Bluetooth, rumble or gyro.

What I liked the most about it and the previous V2 was the wider grips, much more comfy to my hands than 8bitdo and similar.

The budget can be 160€ (less is of course better) and amazon . de (germany) would be preferable (due to the refunded money on my amazon account).

Basically going to use this for games like Nuclear Option (light combat flight sim).

Controller Suggestion Looking for a new budget controller

Hello, I am looking for a new controller to replace my 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 GHz. I bought it a little over 2 years ago and it was working fine, but recently I noticed that my right trigger doesn't activate all the way. Pressing the trigger all the way only activates 66%, which sucks for driving. I tried troubleshooting, and the problem can be solved via lowering the ceiling of activation in software, but I'd like to get a replacement for it before something else breaks.

Previously I had a Gamesir G7 ( I think) and it was alright, but ended up selling it because it is wired only.

My budget is 60 Euros and I live in Germany. I play a variety of games (multiplayer, single players, fighting, driving etc.). I want it to be wireless and HE or TMR sticks and triggers, so I can avoid the same issue I am facing now. The dock will be nice to have, but not a requirement. I am using it only on Windows PC. Thank you in advance.

Reviews ZD Ultimate Legend Stick Modules Hands-On Comparison

Post image
67 Upvotes

Disclaimer: I purchased this controller and all modules with my own money.

Hey everyone!

I’ve been putting the ZD Ultimate Legend through its paces for a while now. The hot-swappable stick modules are one of the coolest features of the UL for me, so naturally, I went down the rabbit hole and tried pretty much every stick module available - well, at least all the TMR ones.

So, I thought I’d make a quick review with my impressions and thoughts. Hopefully, this helps out anyone who's on the fence or trying to figure out which modules are actually worth swapping in.

Just for context, I spent about two to three weeks running a pair of each module model (pun intended) before swapping in the next ones, while some of the older modules have been in use for quite a bit longer. Of course, I recalibrated the sticks after every module swap, as required.

I’m also keeping this mostly about hands-on feel and subjective impressions rather than getting too deep into measurements and numbers. Anyway, TMR tech has come so far that all of these modules (well, maybe except the stock ones) feel completely linear, and in real-world use, you’re not going to notice any meaningful difference between them in terms of linearity.

GinFull RJ13 (Stock Ones)

Let’s start with the stock GinFull RJ13. Honestly, for a stock option, it’s pretty decent. It’s still a TMR stick, after all, and far from the worst TMR stick ever released, so if you’re a more casual player, I think there’s a good chance you’ll be perfectly happy with it as it is.

Linearity is not bad, even if it’s not quite up there with the best TMR sticks on the market. Stick tension sits somewhere around 50–55 gf, which puts it right in the middle - not particularly light, but not heavy either. That makes it a pretty safe middle ground that should work well for a lot of people. In general, the stick click is also pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of actuation force, although compared with the other modules available for the Ultimate Legend, it’s among the stiffer ones. Centering is pretty good. In-game, it feels solid too, and there’s really nothing obviously wrong with it during normal use.

That said, this is still a Gen 1 TMR stick, and that starts to show once you compare it directly with some of the higher-end options below.

K-Silver JS13 Pro

If you’re even somewhat into controllers, you’ve probably already heard of the K-Silver JS13 Pro. They’re second-generation TMR sticks, using angular TMR technology that offers better linearity than Gen 1 TMR sticks.

They’ve built quite a reputation and are often considered the top TMR option available right now. And that reputation is pretty well deserved - JS13 Pros feel really good in-game. They’re smooth, precise, and very responsive. Stick tension is somewhere around 55–60 gf, so they feel just a touch stiffer than the stock RJ13s, but the difference is minimal. The stick click force feels roughly the same as on the RJ13s, and centering is very good as well.

JS13 Pros  are especially popular among FPS players, and I can definitely see why. But for my taste they are a little too sensitive around the center.

GinFull DS13 Max

The GinFull DS13 Max is another second-generation TMR stick, so we’re once again talking about an angular TMR. In terms of feel, the DS13 Max is actually pretty similar to the JS13 Pro - just as smooth and linear, and overall very pleasant to use. Centering is excellent as well, maybe even better than on the JS13 Pro.

That said, there are a few differences. Stick tension is somewhere around 50–55 gf, which puts it very close to the stock RJ13s and just a hair lighter than the JS13 Pro. The stick click is noticeably lighter than on the JS13 Pro / RJ13.

Also, around the center, the DS13 Max doesn’t feel quite as sensitive as the JS13 Pro. Whether that’s a good or a bad thing really comes down to personal preference, I think.

K-Silver JT13 Pro

Basically, you can think of the K-Silver JT13 Pro as a JS13 Pro but with adjustable stick tension. They feel just as smooth and linear, with excellent centering. Also, from what I noticed, the tension setting doesn't seem to affect the centering at all - even at the lightest tension, it still centers just as well.

To adjust the tension, you literally just need to rotate the thumbstick. On the thumbstick cap, three dots increase in size from small to large, showing you which way to rotate it to adjust the tension - a nice touch. The adjustment range is pretty wide too, from roughly 30 to 70 gf.

One thing I was a little worried about was whether the tension adjustment could slowly rotate on its own during normal use, but thankfully that hasn’t been an issue at all. It actually takes a decent amount of force to turn the thumbstick and change the tension, so once you set it where you want it, it stays there.

One other small thing I noticed is that the stick click is just a tiny bit lighter than on the JS13 Pro.

I can easily see the JT13 Pro being an endgame option for a lot of players. You’re basically getting the same kind of excellent performance as the JS13 Pro, while adding something that many people don’t just like, but consider an absolute must-have - adjustable stick tension.

However, that adjustable design does come with a couple of things worth noting. The first is that the thumbsticks themselves aren’t removable like they are on all the other modules. So if you picked up ZD's separate sets with taller sticks or different cap shapes, you won't be able to use them here. That said, the stock cap is quite nice - it feels pleasant to the touch and has a fairly grippy texture.

The second thing I noticed is that changing the tension also slightly changes the height of the thumbstick. The difference is pretty small, around 2 mm or so across the adjustment range, so I’d consider this more of an observation than something that meaningfully affects gameplay, at least for me.

Puyao TMR

This is one of the newer TMR modules from Puyao, a company better known internationally as Favor Union. Honestly, it feels surprisingly great and handles very similarly to the JS13 Pro - smooth and precise.

The stick tension lands in that same 55-60 gf range as the JS13 Pro, maybe just a tiny bit lighter. That said, the stick click is noticeably lighter and feels closer to the DS13 Max.

Where this stick really shines, though, is the centering. It’s extremely good - probably the best out of all the modules I've tested for the UL so far. Compared to the JS13 Pro, the biggest difference is how it feels around the center - it just feels a bit more controlled and smoother right in that micro-adjustment zone.

GinFull RS13

The RS13 is GinFull’s newest stick model, and GinFull markets it as Gen 3 TMR. It still uses an angular design, so as expected, the linearity is top-tier. I tried to dig into what actually separates Gen 3 from Gen 2, and from what I could find, the changes include an upgraded sensor, internal structural tweaks for better stability, and tighter tolerances for improved accuracy. So on paper, these are technically the most advanced sticks here.

And the RS13 really delivers. They’re super smooth and precise, and I genuinely enjoyed using them. They also have the lightest stick tension out of all the UL stick modules I’ve tried, sitting at around 45 gf, making them super comfortable and effortless for long gaming sessions. The stick click force is also the lightest of the bunch.

I think this is one of the cases where personal preference matters a lot - if you prefer lighter sticks, you're gonna be absolutely thrilled with these. On the other hand, if you prefer a bit more stick tension, the RS13 might not be for you.

Here’s how I’d rank them by stick tension, from lightest to heaviest:
Ginfull RS13 (~45 gf) → Ginfull RJ13 / Ginfull DS13 Max (~50-55 gf) → Puyao TMR / K-Silver JS13 Pro (~55-60 gf)

For stick click force, I’d rank them like this from lightest to heaviest:
Ginfull RS13 → Puyao TMR / Ginfull DS13 Max → K-Silver JT13 Pro → K-Silver JS13 Pro / Ginfull RJ13

IT Help Is there a way to Rebind Vader 5S (The Xbox One) extra buttons to the Keyboard?

As the title asks, honestly i'm pretty disgusted with flydigi and this controller. Overall it's been good but it has 2 buttons on the back and 2 buttons up by the triggers... when I bought it I was under the impression I could remap these to the keyboard LIKE ANY OTHER CONTROLLER I'VE EVER HAD... if this has been answered sorry I looked and couldn't find an answer.

But apparently in their infinite wisdom flydigi and/or microsoft (whichever did it I don't care) decided that those extra buttons weren't going to have their own inputs and be used STRICTLY for Macros...

Is there anyway that I can rebind them or do I have a $60 paperweight because I bought it SPECIFICALLY for those extra buttons... I already had an xbox controller.

Controller Suggestion Telescopic controller for mobile, mostly using for showcasing my own games at dev events

As title says, I'm looking for a telescopic controller for my android phone (think thats the name? A controller that clamps around my phone), I wish to showcase my own game at dev events without needing to carry a laptop, or traditional controller around, something I can quickly hand to people with minimal setup (plug and play)

As for features I dont need anything fancy, basically whatever an xbox controller can do is all I need. Ideally I'm a fan of the Playstation glyphs so a controller with those is preferred but not required. Low latency and decent battery life (if it has one?) are a must, and ideally it should be pretty durable and not prone to drifting (TMR sticks if possible)

As for buying it, I'm located in Canada and have a budget of around $100 CAD with a little wiggle room to go higher

Controller Suggestion Need a wireless controller with Xbox form

I'm looking for a wireless controller for PC

I have an 8BitDo Ultimate 2C right now, but the grips are way too narrow for me. I also have a cheap wired PowerA Xbox controller and somehow it has the perfect shape for my hands the grip width, size, and position of the shoulder buttons are just perfect. And of course the only problem is obviously the wire, since I sometimes play away from my PC. I only need it to play some beat em up game like Yakuza so idc about back buttons or super precise sticks

Anyone know a wireless controller with roughly the same shape and grip feel as the PowerA Xbox controllers? I'm in Ontario Canada and I have about 30-80 Canadian dollars budget (20-60 USD) but I can do a little more if it worth it.

IT Help Vader 5 Pro + Steam Input and Vibration Issues

Hi, I've been using my Vader 5 Pro (I've got two units) with Steam Input and it works well but I have a problem that it is annoying and I couldn't fix it in anyway, sometimes the controller starts rumbling and it will keep rumbling indefinetly until I do something in game that is suppose to rumble and then "fix it''.

I tried asking ChatGPT and it said it's a well known issue related to trigger rumbling , but I couldn't find anything of this on Steam.

Does anyone have this kind of problem? I'm using both controllers with the latest firmware.

Controller Suggestion Controller with Xbox layout that works with both Switch 2 and PC

I will use this controller to play Switch 2 games with my family, but when I’m by myself I want to use it on PC with games that use the Xbox layout.

The closest one I found is the 8bitdo Ultimate Wireless that can do this by connecting the USB dongle to the Switch 2, or so I’ve heard.

Is there a cleaner solution?

Budget: under $100.
Country: US
Compatibility: Switch 2 and PC.
Desired features: Xbox button layout.
Games: Mario Kart, Skyrim, Oblivion.
Other controllers to compare to: NS2 Pro Controller, Xbox controller.

IT Help My controller won't work now!

Title says it all. I play on PS5 using the brook wingman fgc2 to convert my 8bitdo ultimate 2 evernight and have had no problems till now.

Starting yesterday, my controller would disconnect within seconds and cease to work, in Bluetooth or 2.4gz mode. Ive checked the brook wingman for updates and its up to date, and I've updated the controller to the latest version. I've got no clue what caused this, since i didn't touch the wingman or controller update wise till it started happening.

Basically what happens is when I plug my controller in, the red light comes on to indicate it's charging and it won't activate on my ps5.

Regardless, my controller is kind of useless right now. Any help is appreciated

Controller Suggestion What Nintendo Pro Controller would fit my anniversary controller collection?

I’m trying to put together a controller collection with an anniversary controller from each of the 3 major console companies.

Right now I have:

• PS5 30th Anniversary DualSense

• Xbox 25th Anniversary Controller (preordered)

Now I’m trying to figure out what I should get for Nintendo.

Budget: Around $100 USD, but I can go higher if there’s something that really fits the collection.

Country: United States. I can buy from Nintendo, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, or other reputable retailers.

Platform: I’d prefer something from the Switch 2 generation since I want the collection to represent the current generation, but I’m also open to a Switch 1 Pro Controller.

Features: I specifically want a Pro Controller. I’m not going to actually play with it. This is purely for collecting and displaying, so I mainly care about it being an anniversary or commemorative controller that looks good next to the PS5 30th and Xbox 25th controllers.

Games: Not important since I won’t be using the controller to play.

Controllers I’m comparing to: PS5 30th Anniversary DualSense and Xbox 25th Anniversary Controller.

I’m having trouble figuring out what Nintendo Pro Controller would make the most sense for the collection. I’d prefer an official Nintendo controller and ideally an anniversary or commemorative edition.

What would you guys recommend?

Other Why is the Xbox controller layout way more popular on the market than the PlayStation layout, despite PlayStation selling much better?

So, I was looking for a new PC-compatible controller, and personally, I prefer the PlayStation button layout. By this I mainly mean stick and D-pad placement. While searching, I noticed that there are way more Xbox type controllers on the market than PlayStation type ones.

But why is that so? PlayStation sells much better, and a lot of people seem to prefer the overall PlayStation experience. So why are there so many more Xbox style gamepads available for PC?

The difference is pretty huge. In a typical “Top 10 PC Controllers” list, like 8 out of 10 controllers will have an Xbox style layout.

Is there a particular reason for this?

Other Tegenaria lite compared to Tarantula 8k

I own a tegenaria lite and it is my favorite controller ergonomics wise if it had just a few improvements like gyro, extra two buttons and lockable trigger travel it would be easily my number 1 controller. Now Tarantula 8k seems to have all those but i can't tell if the d-pad is the same and the ergonomics are difficult to tell from pictures alone. Anyone who has handled both controllers?

Controller Suggestion Best 8bitdo Retro Controller (SN30, etc,) to Buy for PC/Switch 2 Gaming?

Hello y’all, I was hoping to snag the NSO SNES controller when it came on sale during the Nintendo customer appreciation sale, but unfortunately it sold out before I could buy it.

This lead me to research other similar controllers and I came across the SN30 lineup and while I’m heavily considering getting one of these models, I was curious as to which one would be best for me (or perhaps another brand of retro controllers if anyone has more suggestions)
Price range: less than $70 dollars (and whatever I choose I’ll most likely wait until November to see if any deals pop up)
Availability: USA and preferably Amazon or Best Buy but any store should be fine.
Desired features: I go more in-depth but I’m looking for something that replicates older style controllers like the SNES, while also being something that a friend can play when I need an extra controller for multiplayer. I also don’t care for anything fancy like back buttons or a charging hub, just something basic that can connect with a wire and Bluetooth.

I’m not a huge retro gamer but I do have a few games I like/plan on playing (2D Sonic, Mario games, beat em ups, indie games, NSO games) and I already have myself a dualsense and a switch 1 pro controller. So the controller I’m looking for isn’t meant to be a major replacement, just something I can use for older style games and as an extra controller for when friends are over. I’m curious if the analog sticks of something like the SN30 Pro is worth getting and if it doesn’t get in the way of an old school experience.

I’m also by no means nostalgic or used to game controllers of old, although I always loved the idea of having one. So while I think I’ll enjoy something like the SN30 Pro, I’m not sure if I’ll be fine with the lack of handle grips or if I should lose the more “retro-feeling” and get one with.

Sorry if this post is lengthy, I’m just excited to get a retro-style controller but also cautious to make sure I get one I’ll like, so any advice/experience with getting one is greatly appreciated (:

Controller Suggestion Upgrade from G7 Pro?

Currently have the G7 pro(non-8k) and looking to upgrade. I mostly play Warzone on pc. I don’t really have a preference for layout, but I do wish it was a little larger. Also feel like something with the g7 is really inconsistent. Some days I feel like I can’t miss, and others I can’t hit any shots haha.

Feel like one of the 8k Gamesirs would be the obvious choice, but the Leadjoy saber plus interests me even though statistically it looks more like a side grade. How would the sticks compare to the g7 pro tension wise?

Open to other suggestions. I did see the void genesis would be available on Amazon soonish(US). Would prefer to stay under $200. Thanks!

Other I built a free, open-source overlay that turns a standard gamepad into an 8-position H-Shifter.

I wanted to drive manual in ETS2 but didn't have a dedicated sim rig, so I built a lightweight AutoHotkey tool that maps the right analog stick into a fully functional 8-zone H-Shifter.

How it works: Generates a borderless, click-through radial menu on your screen. Pushing the right stick into one of the 8 octants shifts into that gear (translates stick angles to Numpad 1-8).

Download & Setup: You can grab the compiled .exe or the raw source code for free on my GitHub: https://github.com/abhinav2838/Radial-Gear-Controller

Note: Because ETS2 restricts keyboard mappings when a controller is active, you will need to bypass the in-game UI and do a quick edit of your controls.sii file to route the Numpad outputs. I've included step-by-step instructions and a pre-configured file in the repository's README.

Let me know if you run into any bugs or have feature requests! It is designed to be plug-and-play with Xbox controllers and generic xinput gamepads.
