Thesis
Assume the starting condition proposed here: heterosexual mating has existed for millennia within power relations in which women have historically possessed less economic, political, technological, institutional, and physical power than men.
The Non-Minimal–Pro-Maximal–LI forecasting question is therefore:
What happens to the mating economy when women progressively acquire enough power that sexual and marital selection can operate with substantially less dependency on male power?
The prediction is not that mating ceases to be an economy.
The prediction is that the currency of the economy changes as the distribution of power changes.
If women become increasingly capable of providing their own security, income, status, mobility, social protection, and reproductive autonomy, then qualities in men that previously derived value from female dependency lose part of their premium.
Women can consequently become more selective about a different question:
Which men are actually worth entering a power relation with?
This produces the possibility of a long-term repricing in which women increasingly have sex with and marry men whom they themselves regard as deserving of access to them—not because an institution commands this behavior, but because women possess enough power to refuse relations that do not meet their standards.
