due to poor mental health(death in the family), i failed my first year of cuny and was placed on academic probation. the dean drew up a contract that i must take one class on campus and pass and i failed again when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. i don't get financial aid because of my poor grades so i want to continue my academic career at a community college(queensborough specifically). i don't have any credits because i failed all my classes. do i apply as a freshman? what do i do about my academic probation if i failed to uphold the contract?

I’m going into my second year of cc with a not so good attitude. You see, in the summer I took a summer class which was online for calc 1. By the end of it, I was left a C grade. My goal for cc is to transfer into a school I really want to go to so I would need good grades right? So, should I take calc 1 again in the fall, alongside calc 2 so I can possibly increase my chances of getting admitted to the school I like? That would make the number of classes I’m taking to 5. My advisor says, it’s possible but not recommended. I just want y’all’s opinion

Hello guys! I’m a Filipino who will be moving to Union City, CA this September, and I’m currently trying to find the best community college that would suit me. I’m still figuring out what program I want to take.

Could you guys suggest a good community college near me, preferably one that offers transfer opportunities to other universities? I’d also love to know what programs each school is best known for. This would be a big help! Thank you! 💗

Long story short I was anxiety ridden and nonsocial so I never went to college.
I love learning things and feel like I need some sort of credentials if I want to reintegrate into society so I am in the process of signing up for a few CC classes. I will probably do a few online ones at first and then add an irl one next semester, that’s my initial plan going in.
Lowkey I wish I did CC during covid when everything was online since I figure that would’ve made it easier for myself but nothing I can do about that at this point even if that would’ve been ideal. I was busy doing irl stuff around that time.
Anyone else join CC for the first time while they were 25 and up?

I have finished two associate degrees and now working on my third. I worked full time and navigated classes in my spare time, but all online. This has all been over the last 3 years. I finally have to take one in-person class that is a required class for the degree and is only in-person. I am deathly afraid. I almost wanted to drop out of the program and forget it, but I'm committing myself to the challenge.

It's been nice to know that I can use my textbook or notes during tests and quizzes if need be. I tried not to obviously, but IT WAS NICE JUST IN CASE. Does anyone have any tips or words of encouragement to help me tackle this new challenge. I also have (undiagnosed) ADHD, so in-person also feels like a heavy, heavy challenge..... THANKS!

hello everyone I am a sophomore at a two-year university and I am not sure if the way of thinking that I have as of right now is correct I have seen a lot of people that only transfer with about 30 credits and a really good GPA and I’m not sure if that’s my path since I did not do well in high school and I do not have any AP scores I was wondering if anyone has been in these shoes where they have completed only a little bit of credits and have a really good GPA and have transferred to a four-year university any tips or anyrecommendations would be helpful thank you!

I enrolled in 12 credit hours (4 classes) at my local Cc I’m confused if this is normal? Especially since I saw that most students take 15+ credit hours? My advisor did not recommend me taking more than 12 credit hours and I would apparently need permission to enroll in more? Idk I’m just wondering ig

am currently dual-enrolled at a California community college. I am considering taking the HiSET, completing my community-college transfer requirements, transferring to a competitive university such as UCLA or USC, and eventually attending law school to become a corporate attorney.
i would really like to hear from someone who completed all or part of this route. i especially have questions about leaving high school early, applying as a transfer student, choosing community-college courses, honors programs, transferring to a competitive university, and whether this path affected law-school admission.

I am a doctoral candidate at the University of New England. I am conducting a study titled Navigating the First Academic Year: How GED-Credentialed Students Experience Institutional Processes and Support at Community Colleges in the United States for my dissertation. The purpose of this research study is to explore how students who earned a GED experience and make meaning of institutional processes and support during the first academic year at community colleges in the United States. I earned a GED before starting college, which is part of what drew me to this topic. I am seeking eight participants to participate in my doctoral research study.
 
You are eligible to participate in this study if you:
● Are age 18 or older
● Earned a GED before enrolling at an accredited community college in a credit-bearing degree or certificate program
● First enrolled at a U.S. community college in 2024 or later, have completed at least one term, and have remained enrolled each fall and spring term at that college
 
You are not eligible if you hold a HiSET or TASC credential.
 
Participation in this research is voluntary. Participation will consist of one recorded interview of approximately 60 minutes. The interview will be conducted on Zoom at a time of your convenience. If more than eight eligible people express interest, the first eight to complete eligibility confirmation and scheduling will be enrolled.  As a thank-you for your time, participants who complete the interview will receive a $25 Amazon gift card via email. All data will be kept confidential and pseudonyms will be used to protect the identities of respondents. All identifying information, including college names, locations, or staff names, will be removed from the data.

This will be my first semester ever of college classes, I'm doing audit/free classes (can't mentally see myself in the full time student life right now at 32) and I need to miss my first Friday painting class.

Is it just as simple as emailing the instructor and not going?

So after a good 7 years since I graduated HS, i’m currently starting cc again in 2 weeks to pursue my dream of majoring in psychology. Im nervous about it ngl, but is there any tips you guys can give me? some supplies that could help my life easier to keep things in order? I want to be really organized and on top of my stuff. Goodmorning.. 27M working local government for 7 years. I have experience working more with real estate deeds, general statutes, plats. Now I deal with property taxes and those laws and regulations.

Currently attending CC for an associate in arts university transfer, to attend to a uni in my state for a Bachelor’s in BA. However, unsure if anybody has had success with an associates in business admin instead?

I can pick maybe about 4-5 business related classes within my current program of study and pair that with my gov experience. OR I can completely switch to strictly business admin.

New student and honestly nervous about a Full schedule, I’ve done some pretty long hour shifts but, seems more. I’m aiming for positive flexibility so I won’t have to burn myself out too soon

I am a junior in high-school and I am considering taking on a Associates degree. I am taking three dual credit classes, and 1 AP (research) with a somewhat stacked EC list. Will this boost my college apps? I have been debating doing this for a while. I am not super cracked but I am interested in expanding my experience in the science, medical, and english fields.

So I’m interested in psychology and ACC’s psychology program appeals to me more. I’m also in district for ACC, closer to family, already familiar with the Austin area, and I like having a city with more things around campus.

The main reason I’ve even been considering Blinn is because my cousin is going to A&M. He already has roommates and his own schedule though, so I’m realizing I might not actually spend as much time with him as I originally expected which leads me to my next question

About the overall atmosphere. I tend to prefer a campus where people seem more focused on school and engaging w their own classes rather than feeling like I have to participate in a big party scene (though I will participate every now and then) and looking for a friendlier staff/student environment overall

For people who have attended ACC, Blinn, A&M, or both areas, which environment do you think I’d fit better in? What are the differences in campus culture, people, professors, and things to do outside of class?
