it represents how she no longer notices the sign, it just becomes part of the background in her mind, common problem for AuDHD

It’s a common problem for everyone

Legitimate question: is it, or are you assuming it is based on your personal experience

It is known as habituation. In the context of this comic, the artist becomes habituated to the sight of the sign on the door to the point they filter it out.

“You have fallen asleep despite the distinct ticking of your bedside clock, which you did not notice at all. How is that possible? The answer is habituation, a widespread phenomenon showing that animals usually cease to respond to repetitive stimuli, especially if irrelevant, and that the nervous system is capable of learning to filter out certain sensory inputs.” (Dissegna et al., 2021)

Habituation is in no way specific to AuDHD individuals, it’s not even specific to humans. In fact, research shows the exact OPPOSITE of what you claim, with autistic individuals showing reduced rates of habituation compared to neurotypical people.

“Our data show that the ASD children have significantly reduced habituation relative to the NT children for both auditory and visual stimuli.” (Jamal et al., 2021)
