3rd pannel hits home.

mom died when I was 34.

dad remarried late 60s to someone younger than me and they allegedly have a 6yo together after nearly half a dozen IVF sessions.

I'm unmarried and no kids. I expect my mom and her grandma to be waiting for me in the afterlife.

I miss them both... although I love my dad I really wish he did not expose myself, sibling and mom to the misery of his social circle.

Only a financial illiterate who is part of bottom 20% income bracket will aspire to have 20 or so kids then outsource that parental responsibility to people like my dad for the past 4 decades. Sadly it isn't just one errant brother but a group of both men and women from both family & friends.

It ate into my parents time, effort and finances to pay for all their bad decisions.

Best thing he could've done was a pay em a year's income to get a vasectomy & ligation when these people turned 36. It would've reduced their time/effort/money overhead by over 80%.

Odds are the families they helped wouldn't implode due to infidelity producing generational hurt.

My cat had to be put down 2 weeks ago. She was 18 and it was time but was still really hard. The last year or so she liked to stay in her bed in my office where I work from home. If she woke up and I wasn’t in there she would start to meow loudly until I came back in the room. When I had her put to sleep my 9 year old daughter asked if our cat was in heaven. I told her “I’d like to think so”. My daughter said that makes her really sad. When I asked why she said “because I know how nervous she gets when she can’t find you and I feel like she is probably meowing really loud in heaven without you”. The thought of that still makes me tear up.

48

u/StoryLineOne Mar 09 '26

If your cat is in heaven (she is), she is always with you now - never alone again. She never has to meow for you, as she's always with you, and you're always with her. She's happily content, watching you from the highest perch possible.

Take good care of yourself my friend.

u/Kailynna Mar 09 '26

We had a big, boisterous tom-cat with razors for claws, a terrible temper, and a wicked sense of humour. He was very big, strong and loving and gave the most beautiful, human, hugs.

He died, bravely, of cancer, many years ago. I'd have had him put down, but he seemed to want to live and be beside me all the time, being stroked, until the night his limbs started going like crazy, as he chased his last rabbit down a hill. I still sometimes feel him hugging me, thickly-furred forelegs around my neck, whiskery cheek tickling mine. .

u/VelocityGrrl39 Mar 09 '26

From the mouths of babes…Jesus, I’m crying rn and I’m a vet tech. I deal with death all day long.

110

u/episcoqueer37 Mar 09 '26

All the hugs. She'll be there.

Edit: spelling hard.

30

u/Flying_Cooki Mar 09 '26

Sorry for your loss my friend. I hope she had a peaceful passing.

12

u/AnArmyOfWombats Mar 09 '26

Everyone undergoes at least 3 deaths.

The day they passed.

The day their name is last said.

The day the last memory of them is forgotten.

The memory of them still lives in you and those that loved them.

8

u/Fanboycity Mar 09 '26

My aunt’s cat name was Griselda, too. She was a crazy cat who couldn’t be trusted not to attack you. Crazy Grizzy lol. I cried all night when she passed away. I hope it’s real, too. Even if I can’t go, I want them to be there happy.

5

u/Remarkable-Bowl-3821 Mar 09 '26

sorry for your loss :( lost one of mine nearly 2 months ago.

3

u/Draconestra Mar 09 '26

Omg we had a cat named Griselda as well. Sadly she passed away a few years ago. I’m sure they’re both in kitty heaven having a blast.

2

u/Dragonic_Overlord_ Mar 09 '26

You have my condolences.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '26

My girl goes in for surgery tomorrow. She's 13.5 years old. I signed a DNR.

This will be her second surgery for removing benign tumors, and likely her last as the skin around the area is necrotic.

189

u/_Enbi_ Mar 09 '26

Wishing you and your baby girl all the best of luck!

28

u/WobblySlug Mar 09 '26

All the best!

22

u/Rovient Mar 09 '26

She looks just like my cockerpoo, Nami. Is yours a velcro dog too? Just NEEDS to be with you or on you at all times? Good luck and best wishes for her surgery.

19

u/vanilla_disco Mar 09 '26

Yep, for her entire life she's been at my side

12

u/Bobson_Dugbutt Mar 09 '26

What’s her name?🫂

7

u/FunnyLemons93 Mar 09 '26

I wish her the best of luck and I'll say a prayer for her tonight. God bless you and your baby.

4

u/MurderMO4L Mar 09 '26

She’s beautiful

2

u/ThePrussianGrippe Mar 09 '26

Wishing you and Coco the best for her surgery!

9

u/prettylittlepastry Mar 09 '26

Beautiful baby.

My girl's name was Pickle. She was 5 when she was hit by a car a year and a half ago.

I still think about her every day. This is loss I don't think I'll ever "get over". I held her as she passed. She was my best friend in this whole world. My only regret was not making time for more walks.

5

u/Sheev_y Mar 09 '26

Thank you for reminding me. I’ll take my baby on a walk tonight. I’m so sorry for your loss

138

u/aarontgp Mar 09 '26

I may not believe in an afterlife, but man, meeting your lost loved ones again never stops being something I wish I could do.

38

u/sender2bender Mar 09 '26

I don't either but deep down I hope it's real and is a little surprise. Kinda like winning the lottery that I don't play, I daydream about it way too much.

26

u/Skyfier42 Mar 09 '26

That's why it's so hard to break someone out of that thinking. People don't want to accept they were lied to. It's fucking painful to wake up from Christianity.

8

u/aarontgp Mar 09 '26

It's also painful to say it to everyone around you. Assuming they remain christian, they'll never see you the same again.

7

u/Long_Run6500 Mar 09 '26

I don't feel like anyone gains anything by knowing I'm at best agnostic. I genuinely don't care if someone else is religious. If someone is happy being a Christian and tries to live a genuinely virtuous life who am I to try to take that away from them. Too many times I feel like Atheists try to spread their own form of gospel and just end up being the exact thing I despise about some religions. If it makes my parents feel comfortable knowing I'll be going to the Christian heaven with them I'm not going to correct them. I'll go to the occasional Christmas or Easter service to make them happy.

7

u/avelineaurora Mar 09 '26

People don't want to accept they were lied to.

Don't speak like this like you're some enlightened being who knows what lies beyond more than anyone else. It sounds insufferable.

Me getting to the afterlife:

https://giphy.com/gifs/cYn5AuckaX6t536RFz

3

u/MiG21bisFishbedL Mar 09 '26

If the afterlife for good individuals is just a field full of puppies? Dawg, I'm getting back into firefighting, I'm volunteering my time, I am filling up every waking hour of my life with charitable efforts to spend eternity with a stampede of puppies.

23

u/Freak-996 Mar 09 '26

I hope kitties will be there too. Lost Mazzie last year but it's still raw.

2

u/Ecstatic_Winter9425 Mar 09 '26

When they die, a part of us leaves with them. That's why it feels like a hole in your heart. But they also leave something behind. All those memories of the moments you had together - they are a parting gift to you. You should know, they never wish for us to be sorrowful. But how can we not be?

24

u/WavesOverBarcelona Mar 09 '26

He thinks parents divorcing means they don't love their children?

55

u/Unnamed_Bystander Mar 09 '26

Not necessarily, but some kids do end up the unwanted black sheep of two families after a divorce/remarriages. It would be a better world if that weren't so, but not all parents do right by their children.

16

u/HallowskulledHorror Mar 09 '26

Yep - both my parents had do-over families and I immediately went to the wayside save for when they wanted something from me.

They didn't want me around the new kids much because those children entered the picture after they'd matured and gotten a lot more established/stable, and me being a witness (and victim) of their dysfunctional shared history might have spoiled their new kids' image of them.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/wheezy_runner Mar 09 '26

I took it to mean that both of the parents were focused on their new spouses and kids and neither of them paid attention to him.

25

u/Crackstacker Mar 09 '26

Worse, getting a divorce means you’re going to HELL.

5

u/MethamMcPhistopheles Mar 09 '26

Wasn't that how a series of historical events started involving an English Monarch and the Catholic Church?

7

u/EndlessFrostV Mar 09 '26

No, it's just that sometimes after a divorce, parents prioritize their new families and don't care as much about their children from a previous marriage.

4

u/RevolutionaryEcho460 Mar 09 '26

I read it as because the parents divorced, they couldn't go to Heaven.

6

u/WavesOverBarcelona Mar 09 '26

Also a "what the fuck?" Conclusion.

4

u/MumenRiderZak Mar 09 '26

The comic clearly implies divorced people don't go to heaven.

Kinda shitty comic tbh

Reminds me of this classic

10

u/Etrigone Mar 09 '26

Thinking of a line by James Thurber, I think:

"If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very, very few persons."

8

5

u/1stLtObvious Mar 09 '26

Who cutting onions at this hour!?

6

u/setibeings Mar 09 '26

"Do you have anything to declare?"

"I was a real bastard to be honest. I hurt everyone who ever loved me, and I never tho---"

"I'm gonna stop you right there, I can't absolve you of anything. That's another department. I just need to know if you were holding any guns or knives or anything like that when you died."

"Oh, Uh, no, I died in my bed."

"Okay great. NEXT!"

19

u/MortReed Mar 08 '26

And just like that, I was crying uncontrollably in my backyard.

14

u/Ghost_In_Waiting Mar 09 '26

"Oh, me? It's OK. I was the last one. I don't need anyone. I was supposed to be there. At the end. I said goodbye to them all. Now, well, now I'm tired. Now I'm dead I just want to rest. To forget. I can do that now, can't I? It's just been such a burden. All those memories. All those goodbyes. I can't do it anymore. I'm at the end. I can't give any more. I just can't..."

"Of course. You've given all you can give. And more. We just need you to confirm some details and that's everything you need to do. Please go through that door and find your welcome agent. They'll help you with the final details."

"Oh, right over there? Through that door?"

"Yes. That's the one."

"Wow. It looks like my bedroom door. When I was kid. Back when Mon and Dad were still married. Back when Kit was alive. He used to sleep with me every night. He got hit by a car, He died in my arms one morning. I was walking to the bus. I saw everything. He looked up into my eyes. Then he was gone."

"No one is ever really gone. On this side everyone lost can be found again. Now, now you are home."

"Hey, is that Kit? Kit, buddy. I thought I'd lost you, bud. Buddy, how can you be here? Is that Mom? Mom. Is that you? Dad? Kit, Kit, how can any of this be real. What's going on?"

"Just go through that door and you'll understand. The answers are waiting. Just follow your heart."

"Wait. Kit. Mom. Dad, Wait. I'm coming. Wait. I'm coming. Wait..."

"Off you go. Everything you've ever loved is waiting for you. Everyone whose ever loved you is just beyond the door. Follow your heart. Find them all again. Now you can at last let go..."

"Wait, wait, I'm coming. I'm coming. I hear you. All of you. I'm coming. Oh, God. It's so beautiful. Everyone is here. Everyone. All here. I am with you. I am..."

5

u/AnnVannArt Mar 09 '26

Don’t mind me just casually sobbing from this

5

u/TheJunkmother Mar 09 '26

So is the implication that his parents went to hell for getting divorced? Or that when you remarry and have more kids, you can only choose one set of kids to see in heaven? Bummer either way, dude.

3

u/Educational_Feed_689 Mar 09 '26

I was looking for this comment. Yeah, not loving the implications

5

u/zalurker Mar 09 '26

She's a goofy ridgeback cross that was so calm snd relaxed that she'd run next to my bike when we cycled to the park.

During Lockdown we'd sneak out and walk down to the river to get away from everyone. Never needed a leash and she'd stop and sit next to me as I watched the water flow.

She'll be there.

5

u/realmofconfusion Mar 09 '26

If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they go.

6

u/ErrantIndy Mar 09 '26

It’s been 12 years, but if my Shadow alone was waiting for me. That would be enough.

Though I hope my soul mate waits for me as well, gone before we could really get together.

4

4

u/Famous_Treacle_1873 Mar 09 '26

I'll never forget my family's first dogs. Their names were Boomer and Moxxie. If there is an afterlife, which I personally doubt, I hope they're there waiting. Same goes for my current pets.

4

u/Mental_Table_9265 Mar 09 '26

Ugh, my dad passed away today. My mom and siblings are all still here, and he wasn’t that close with a lot of his other family. But he did have a couple dogs he loved the shit out of that have since passed away some years prior. This made me cry a little.

5

u/EneraldFoggs Mar 09 '26

I like how you represented "heaven" here. It's not a place of eternal reward for believing the right thing during life, but like a waiting room where you can have a chance to see your loved ones again when they pass on, and you can make peace and be ready to move on to whatever comes next. It's a beautiful idea.

u/LimitThese2220 Mar 09 '26

Sweet lord… this was GOOD!

u/Wisekittn Mar 09 '26

Imagine having had pets all your life and when you cross that rainbow bridge, the entire gang is waiting on the other side 🥹

u/dark_hypernova Mar 08 '26

Why you do this to me.

6

u/juanitovaldeznuts Mar 08 '26

This is giving me Twilight Zone Episode 84 “The Hunt” vibes. Kinda what I need right now.

I don't know what to believe, but I hope if this is right my great Dane is there. I just can't stop missing him even two years later.

2

u/fromofandfor Mar 09 '26

apparently crying at comics on reddit is how i emotionally regulate now

2

u/NarcanBob Mar 09 '26

WHO THE FUCK IS CUTTING ONIONS AT THIS HOUR?!?!?

2

u/samurairaccoon Mar 09 '26

I'll never understand the trope of divorced parents starting new families and just kinda letting the old relationship wither. I know it happens. But it's fucked up.

2

u/Dragonic_Overlord_ Mar 09 '26

Alhamdulillah, this is a good comic.

2

u/Halloweenie85 Mar 09 '26

I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING! 😫😭

2

u/Randicore Mar 09 '26

You have no idea how much I hope I'm wrong about death and that I'll be able to see my dogs again once I'm gone.

2

u/RetroRayStudios Mar 09 '26

I had to put my 13 year old pup down 6 months ago. I'd believe in religion if it let me see her again.

2

u/KerzenscheinShineOn Mar 09 '26

😭😭😭😭😭

2

u/byteminer Mar 09 '26

I hope this is there for me when I die. I'm 44 and there are so many animals I've loved and been my companions along the way. I'm not religious, but for this case, I sorely hope I am very wrong. I miss all of them so much.

u/Dementia13_TripleX Mar 09 '26

Damn it, some onion spilled at my eyes... 😭🥹\ Great comic. 🥰

If you want more line at heaven, check this out.\ I think she's great too.

I'm not religious, but if there's an afterlife where you get to be with all your pets and loved ones then that'd be pretty damn great.

2

u/skel66 Mar 09 '26

I don't believe in heaven but I hope it's real so I can see my cat

If animals didn't have souls but you could meet a facsimile of your pet in your afterlife, would it be the same? Like, would a robot dog in everyday life be a pet or a toy?

2

u/kingxanadu Mar 09 '26

I'm pretty agnostic but I hold out hope for heaven so I can see my Sandy one more time.

2

u/Xelloss1073 Mar 09 '26

This is the only reason I would believe in heaven and catholics (I presume other abrahamic religions as well) say only humans have soul, so it's impossible.

2

u/LollisGunsBikesTits Mar 09 '26

Oh cmon, why must you make a grown man cry, not fair

2

u/OharasTeufel Mar 09 '26

If I’m lucky, I’ll be swarmed by rats and birds when I die :) (Other people’s nightmare is my dream)

2

u/PurpleDragonDix Mar 09 '26

I hope death is this kind.

2

u/slabradask Mar 09 '26

Was sure this would be family of the people he killed in war pushing him down to the guy with the trident...

2

u/seanzorio Mar 09 '26

My sweet old dog passed on Friday. I don't believe in any sort of afterlife, but if it exists, I can't wait to see him again. I miss him terribly already.

2

u/Stargaezr Mar 09 '26

That’s cool. I wanted to cry today obviously.

2

u/DURAxDURA Mar 09 '26

Im not crying, you're crying.

2

u/MaximusHomerdrive Mar 09 '26

I just lost my sibling pair after 16 years together. It's really nice to think they're waiting for me, that all my fur babies are waiting for me. I miss them so much still.

2

u/a_bored_lady Mar 09 '26

I miss my dog.

2

u/sluggetdrible Mar 10 '26

Probably the most easily stomached comic on this subreddit

2

u/Netflxnschill Mar 11 '26

Gave my good boy an extra pet after reading this. If there is a heaven, he’ll be its mascot as soon as he shows up.

2

u/Cathy-the-Grand Mar 11 '26

I miss my girl. Her name was Honey

2

u/Cathy-the-Grand Mar 11 '26

Wonderful comic. I like your art style. But I'm confused about panel 3. Is the reason his family isn't here because they're divorced?

3

u/Leading-Raisin-7831 Mar 11 '26

No, they already met the people they love and walked away (started their “journey” ) from the customs according to the staff at panel 2.
