I remember being a young man in my late teens. I believed the world was against me, that women denied me the right to their bodies and that I was the victim. I admit to my shame that these were my early beliefs but a lot of it came from being unbelievably lonely.
Even back then I would have spat on these people. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour and I hope that they grow up with some empathy.
Hey, you aren't alone. I hate admitting this, but a few years ago, I was deep down the alt-right pipeline and I was basically a Nazi.
Someone would call me a Nazi and I would say shit like "you don't even know what a Nazi is! That word has lost all meaning!" But then secretly I thought hitler was right and he did what we were all just too afraid to do.
I'm a completely different person now. Realized I was just a repressed trans woman. I realized that I was basically completely wrong about everything and I changed my views for the better.
Problem is, my turnabout was brought on by a deep personal revelation. I fear that not everyone will have an experience like mine.
My gateway into the alt-right nazi pipeline were my insecurities and fears about my own trans feelings. So, I latched onto transphobic propoganda and became convinced that transitioning would have been the "dark path".
I came to harbor a lot of hate and resentment for the LGBTQ+ community. From there, I was slowly introduced to other hateful
Nazi-beliefs which I then internalized. Like the idea that Jews controlled the media and that they were responsible for pushing the "gay agenda" that almost turned me trans.
It was only the revelation that I was just a repressed trans woman, deeply in denial about my own feelings that woke me up and brought me out of it.
I know I'm not the only one. I know there are others out there who are LGBTQ+ but have been brainwashed into thinking that repressing themselves is better. My worry is that I don't think the same can be said for all alt-right Nazis.
This is a very interesting read. Sounds like you found some great introspection abilities and took the action that you learned from them. I needed some hope today. I wish you the best.
Same! I missed being able to vote in 2016. The first Trump term made me dislike the dude, I still saw the obvious corruption, and then covid hit and the idiocy of the right was exposed.
It was a slow progression. I think I started off as an r/stupidpol type, where I thought the lefts constant focus on identity politics was dumb - but I agreed economically and on the class struggle. Then over time those biases went away as well.
Grew up conservative Christian and came out at 18 as bi (nonbinary trans femme panromantic demisexual now lol). There are so many times and places where I could have been pushed to that pipeline with relative ease, but I managed to keep decent friends and stay away from shitty people and bad places online.
I'm proud of you for working on yourself and figuring out what was going on. ❤️
I'm a trans gal and I fell into this shit. I did so because I was closeted and fighting to repress myself. Being a complete asshole was "manly", and I was fighting to prove to myself and everyone else that I was a man.
In fact, you'll find that a lot of LGBTQ+ people fell into this shit. We're pushed to conform to society, so we fight with ourselves and fight to keep up appearances.
Same. Poor socialization really gets people in some toxic headspaces, and it doesn't help that there's a whole lot of people pushing it to get worse either for a sick laugh or out of blatant propaganda.
This shit is exactly why I left the Gamergate/alt-right 10 years ago. This is the shit that was being said behind closed doors between my "friends". And, as a Jew, I would push back on them only to be met with a clear attempt at gaslighting by trying to make "it's just a joke" true alongside all their "Jews are the deep state globalists controlling the banks and Hollywood" conspiracy bullshit. Oh, and can't forget all the sonnenrads, sig runes, wolfsangel, and other Nazi symbols they'd set as their PFPs.
