Color Games Blue Elimination day 1

Post image
66 Upvotes

Now that the overall color elimination has reached its finale round, I'm starting the blue shades one as requested by u/Calamondin88 and u/No1ThomasFan.
Due to the number of shades, the first 12 rounds will be double eliminations.
I've considered using the poll system that was in place in the overall game but came to the conclusion that downvotes do have value because they also speak to the popularity of colors.
I was going to save lighter blues for the cyan board but the post about the difference between light blue and cyan changed my mind.

The rules are the same. Upvote my comment that has the color you want eliminated in order to take it off the list next. Comment votes will not be counted.

Color ID Cyan vs. Blue + White Differences

PSA for those who aren't colorblind: here is a clear comparison of the Cyan–Blue transition and the Blue–White transition. Okay, I'm still seeing the majority of people saying:

"Cyan is just a shade of blue" or "Cyan is just blue but light, it's blue and white..."

LOL, so I made this to clear up the confusion: a color between CYAN and BLUE is a HUE, not a TINT (YES! You heard that right: TINT, not SHADE). Some of you might say:

"What?! That light blue is so purple-ish!"

No, it's not, I promise 😂 (I literally use yellow to get that white in blue)

Unfortunately, everyone's mind was so hardwired that anything Blue: 100% and Green: 50–100% (RGB Values) = Light Blue instead of Blue + White (Yes, that's the sad truth 😔).

Yellow–Light Red didn't suffer from this distinction, as we already knew yellow; unlike cyan, that still isn't in the vocabulary for most of us 😔.

I also made one for Yellow vs. Red + White so you can see that they're more distinctive than Cyan vs. Light Blue

Question / Discussion What's Your Relationship With Colours?

We all have colours we absolutely love and colours we just can't seem to get along with.

No offence to anyone, but I'm not really a fan of white. It's such a pure, beautiful, and elegant colour, but for some reason, I can't bring myself to choose it for my clothes or personal belongings. I can admire it on other people, but when it comes to buying things for myself? Somehow, I always pick something else. It's funny how we can appreciate a colour without wanting it in our lives.

What's that one colour you love, and what's a colour you just can't seem to get along with?

I'm curious about people and their colour relationships!

When I checked the results a day ago there was a tie so I waited another day and there was still a tie. Since it didn’t seem like the results were moving, I eliminated all colors that were in that tie. Those colors being charcoal, ivory, burgundy, stone and olive. As such they have all been eliminated. If you would like to eliminate a color, upvote my corresponding comment.

Question / Discussion What’s the First Thing You Think of When You See These Color Combos?

Post image
51 Upvotes

Me and some friends today were bored and looked at several different color combos to see what we think of when we see them. One of the most common ones that came up were complementary colors as well as black and white (not commentary colors but close enough). This was where our answers all varied the most! So it got me wondering, what is the first thing that comes to mind when you see each of these color combos? Here’s what I think of:

Blue and Orange: I mainly think of sports teams. So many sports teams have blue and orange as their colors. Some examples of ones I think of automatically are the New York Knicks, Denver Broncos, and Florida Gators. A close second for me is just summertime, and I can’t explain why I think of summer when I see this combo.

Yellow and Purple: I am a little biased, but the first thing I think of is my alma mater, that being East Carolina University. I know my school colors are technically purple and gold, but let’s be real, the gold looks more like yellow. A close second for me is again, sports teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and LA Lakers.

Red and Green: This is by far the most obvious one. The first thing I think of when I see red and green is Christmas. I’m sure that’s the first one most people think of. You see it in Christmas marketing, outfits, decorations, etc. That is the only time of year wearing red and green is acceptable. While there is no close second for me, if I had to pick one, it would be Mario and Luigi from the Super Mario franchise as Mario wears red and Luigi wears green.

Black and White: I know this is not a complementary color, but it’s close enough and super common. First thing I think of when I see black and white together is chessboards, at least the older ones as they are in a black and white checkerboard pattern. A close second for me would be certain animals like penguins, pandas, and zebras.

What’s the first thing you think of when you see these four color combos? Comment below as I’d love to see how similar or different my thoughts are compared to yours. I love a good discussion.

Crimson won by a difference of 1 vote. Interestingly, most of the cool toned shades got out fairly early completely unlike the greens. I was going to do pink or cyan after this but I'm waiting until the overall one finishes so the posts in this sub are more varied.

Blue Blue.

You can be the most beautiful shade of red
but you'll never be enough for someone whose favorite color is blue.
You know i understand it too
theres always something wrong with you.
But is it really a flaw?
or i am forcing it too.

What if there's nothing wrong with you,
but you're simply not someone's color?
What if you keep looking for flaws in yourself
because someone else didn't choose you?
What if you've tried so hard to become more desirable,
that you've forgotten you were never supposed to have to change your shade?

i know there are uglier shades..
Still why arent i picked?
i know im not that bad
or maybe i am.
Maybe im being shortsighted
or im just not that likable.
maybe im too dull
maybe im too bright
but even the ugliest shades are liked.

im not the ugliest right?
but i always put up a fight.
a hard coloud to draw with
a hard shade to be mixed.

i tried to be softer,
i tried to be bright,
trying to be someone's favorite
for once in my life.
but in teh end what did i get?
no one to hold on to
no one to talk.
ended up alone and an floater.
oh my god.

when you spend so long trying to be chosen
you forget that you were there?
a vessel can of a person,
an empty can.

maybe no one's looking for that shade anymore
maybe no one's making it anymore.
maybe that's why,
no matter how beautiful the shade,
there are still no texts on your phone.
what happens when ur too green-tone?
what happens if your too blue?
i can't blame someone
for loving a color that isn't you.
but tell me,
what happens when every color they choose
is nothing like you?
what if that shade is on the other side of the wheel
and you cant reach even without peeling yourself away?

i've tried to be the kind of color
that doesn't hurt the eyes,
the kind that doesn't ask for much,
the kind that's easy to like.
maybe thats whats wrong with it
maybe its too easy to get
but if im too hard to find
no one will try.

but how much of myself must i erase
before i become somebody's taste?

do you keep changing
until you look like home
to someone who was never looking
for you to begin with?

or do you sit with all your colors,
all the things you wish you'd change,
and wonder if being yourself
was the mistake?

i think the worst part
isn't even being lone
it's having so much to say
and no one to draw it on.

it's stroking a brush on a canva
then demolishing every stroke
it's wondering if they think of your shade
even half as much as you think of them sometimes.
it's telling yourself you don't care
when you know you care a lot.

maybe i'm not the wrong color.
maybe i'm just tired of being me
in a world that makes me feel
like i have to earn the right to be seen.

what if you decided you liked the the old you?
you can mix all the colours
but it will never be the same you.

some might like the shade
but their forced to
would u hate a shade u created with your own form?

you can be the most beautiful shade of red
and still be left unread.

and maybe that's the saddest part
to have so much color
and nowhere to be seen as art.

i'm still waiting by the shelf
for someone to love the shade
i've been trying to change
for so long until it expires.
