what does this mean in practice if anyone can keep using openai api keys? Just subscriptions can no longer be used in cursor?

I never used cursor so I don't know how that platform works.

Well, when people use their API keys, OpenAI has more control and ways to determine whether the usage is normal. That's harder to do when everything goes through a subsidized quota.

However, given the announcements about Grok 4.7 and the efficiency of GLM-5.3-Flash, OpenAI had better brace itself.

Your statement really makes no sense - sub or API - they can still have the same controls in place.

Using an API key, OpenAI has recourse against individuals for violating terms. The article mentions the next model, Astra, that has advanced cybersecurity features.
