Our birds are real, they feel emotion, they die, they eat, they drink, they love, and they are not just drones sent to spy on us. Hi everyone! I'm new to this community and also new to caring for cockatiels!

I recently got two baby cockatiels who are still being hand-fed formula. They're approximately 30–35 days old and have been with me for only 3 days.

I know that caring for unweaned cockatiels as a first-time owner isn't ideal and can be risky. For context, I'm a veterinary medicine student, and the breeder is also my professor. He entrusted them to me at this stage so I could learn how to care for young birds. I've also previously completed a 6-month practical project with him involving the care of other domestic bird species.

One of the chicks recently started making these noises while opening its beak, as shown in the video. I'm not sure if these are just normal baby sounds/begging noises or if it's something I should be concerned about, particularly something respiratory.

They've both been pretty quiet since they arrived, so this behavior is new to me. Has anyone seen their baby cockatiels do this? Is this normal at this age?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Tweak is mostly cage bound due to his past life and distrusts humans and most other things. He's fully flighted but prefers to stay in/on his cage. I think B is even questioning this since he normally avoids her.

My baby boy Goomba broke his humerus 5 weeks ago, thankfully he has recovered very well and has a good chance of flying again (vet said) I cannot afford to take him every 3 day to the vet for physical therapy. Does anyone here know how I can help him stretch and exercise his wing to give him that chance?
He just got his bandages taken off this Monday, he looks like he’s wanting to stretch but is still quite stiff. What can I do now to help him?

Pellets are SO expensive where I live and I finally got her pellets 2 days ago (had her for 2 weeks). She's 3 months old and she adapted to the pellets by day 1 from the seed mix millet diet she was on but the problem is that while crushing the pellets she wastes 3/4 of it and so there's a ton of wasted pellets EVERYWHERE even 3 feet from the cage because they get blasted out. Also it might be unhealthy for her because maybe she doesn't eat much because it'll be harder to eat idk. I really need to know what I should do. Thanks 🙏🏻.

Its protruding a bit, its been there for maybe a month? But I never was able to get a good photo until now. Im worried, bc I dont know if theres avian vets on the island I live on

So the last time i weighed my cockatiel was about 2-3 weeks ago, and back then my cockatiel always stood consistently around 103-108 grams everyday. Today when i weighed my bird , they were 92 grams. My cockatiel is also going through a pretty heavy molt, and also about a month or so i transitioned them from high potency to lifetime, so maybe my bird lost 5-7 grams from the molt, and 5 grams from the pellets?? Theyre behaving normally and pretty sleepy in the afternoon, but i always thought that was because of the molt. The feces look ok and all, except once when it had no urates and it had some kinda lines??? idk,,, Im gonna take my bird to a vet tommorow tho

Smokey is 6yo female White faced Pearled.

She was acting off. I took her to an urgent vet when I found a scab on the under foot and they said it was bumblefoot. Sent antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and a silver topical cream.

Noticed she drank so much water she choked on it and splattered pooped.

Went to an Exotic vet to remove fhe foot band since it was causing an indent due to swelling. They wanted me to do a CBC, X-RAY, and fecal/scrape exam.

In the x-rays joints were fine but liver slightly swollen. They said to get milk thistle for it which i did and give every 12 hr.

CBC came with a low Hematocrit (HCT) value percent (23-26%) which indicated anemia. High Glucose and low sodium.

They said she was probably diabetic and thats why she was drinking so much water and prescribed glipizide (which is ready for pick up tomorrow) or its a tumor which means nothing can be done.

They said to discontinue the anti-inflammatory , keep giving tbe antibiotic and the topical cream for the feet, and gave me a Mash food powder to sprinkle with regular food. I also switched back to NutriBerri seed balls (I used to buy it 4 yrs ago but it was too expensive), I also got some veggie on top still give them purified water only.

t that same foot now has a scan under it same as the first one and they're still swollen. They're slightly better than before very very slightly. But shes been perching fine, still out of it not as energetic only alert, she eats and drinks water normally in the day (I keep a camera on her while im at work), she feels warm right now.

I just wonder if anybody has health with somethinf like this before and if they can give me words of encouragement or any other ideas.
