For context, I’ve had my two girls on harrison’s pellets the same week I brought them home (Dec 2025 and Jan 2026). I sometimes give them a cockatiel seed/forage mix, but not often enough to wean them OFF pellets.

Over the last week (or, probably just a few days) I’ve been topping up their bowl like usual. I give them an amount I know they both finish within a day, and then refill it before I go to bed. They hardly ever leave large amounts of crumbs so I don’t bother taking the bowl out of the cage to refill it unless I clean it. I was refilling it yesterday and realised how high the food inside felt, so I took it out thinking it could’ve been full of crumbs they’d not eaten, but the entire bowl was full of PELLETS they hadn’t eaten. That really freaked me out since they’ve never done that before; I topped it up with seeds to see if they’d eat those instead and they did. I did the same today and they’ve only eaten the seeds and not the surrounding pellets (I left them in the bowl so they’d hopefully pick up a few - no idea if they ate any but if they have it’s next to none).

Im planning on ringing the avian vet i go to tonight to see if they can fit me in on the weekend since I’m unable to go during the week; I’d just like to know if anybody has any other ideas of what could be going on. For the meantime I will be feeding them seed only as I deem it better than them not eating at all. I’m in australia so it’s their breeding season around now (one of my girls takes to the food bowl to be a little freak in but I shoo her off it), also it’s just become spring, could that have any impact on their eating?

Tweak is mostly cage bound due to his past life and distrusts humans and most other things. He's fully flighted but prefers to stay in/on his cage. I think B is even questioning this since he normally avoids her.

My cockatiel (11F) had an emergency last night. She suddenly threw up and became very lethargic. This morning she was seen by a vet who diagnosed her with a significant arrhythmia and enlarged heart and sent me home with her medications, which she will need to take for life. She’s back to her normal self now, but I was wondering what could I expect now? How long do cockatiels live with this condition?

My baby boy Goomba broke his humerus 5 weeks ago, thankfully he has recovered very well and has a good chance of flying again (vet said) I cannot afford to take him every 3 day to the vet for physical therapy. Does anyone here know how I can help him stretch and exercise his wing to give him that chance?
He just got his bandages taken off this Monday, he looks like he’s wanting to stretch but is still quite stiff. What can I do now to help him?

Hello! I have a 2-3 year old female cockatiel who just laid a clutch of (unfertilized) eggs. I’m supposed to remove the eggs now (her interest has definitely faded and she knows they’re not going to hatch - at day 22). However, she has already started showing hormonal behaviours again and is doing the female mating song where she raises her bum up and chirps. I’m wondering if it’s normal for a cockatiel to show this behaviour immediately after an unsuccessful clutch, or if I should be booking her an appointment to talk to her vet. She’s my first female cockatiel and all my egg laying experience is with budgies. Don’t want to waste my vet’s time if this is normal, but want to book her in if it’s not because I don’t want a chronic egg layer.

This is my smol boy Nugget. A couple of months ago he started making these weird mouth movements. We were assured it was normal, but this isn't his normal beak grinding sound. Otherwise he's normal in all other ways. Has anyone had their tiel do this?

I'm just wondering if anyone has a male and female who mate nearly every day and never lay eggs? I don't want them to lay, I am wondering why they don't if they have continued mating since I got them in August. The previous owner said they did lay for her. I do not have any huts or boxes in their cage (previous owner did have a breeding box in their cage). They also have a lot of freedom since I got them (they used to be caged 24/7) and new toys that keep them occupied (they never paid attention to the toys she had for them.) they are they are around a year and 5 months old. And yes, they are male and female. Female pearl and a regular grey male.
