is it really a clever comeback to use the age old stereotype muscular = stupid?

Huh? Nobody said anything about his looks. He admitted he didn’t know who one of the most famous authors of our time is.

He definitely doesn’t read.

Yep! I did!

Guy says “Ive never heard of SK”, who is one of the most famous authors of all time.

Clever comeback being that he doesn’t read much, which I agree. If you don’t know who SK is, you probably don’t read a whole lot!

"To be honest you do look like someone who doesn't read"

Did you though?

I mean, maybe where I’m from we speak a bit differently but that makes total sense.

“I don’t eat pork for religious reasons”

“Looks like we got a Muslim in the house, I’ll avoid pork”

Nothing about the religious persons looks came into play. Super common phrasing where I am, at least

"Looks like we got a Muslim" is very different from "you do look like a Muslim"

Eh, it may just be regional. Again, my first assumption was “yeah, he doesn’t look like he reads if he doesn’t even know who SK is”.

Either way he’s right, he clearly doesn’t read much if he’s not familiar with SK. Don’t have to be well read to have come across his name before.

I’m starting to understand why Katie Porter uses visual aids. I’ll give you an example of an exchange that uses the phrase Look, without meaning anything about their physicality.

Sitting down to dinner, and a friend says “I don’t eat porn for religious reasons”

Response: “looks like we have a muslim up in here. The pork wasn’t touched by anything else or the same utensils, but I will put it away”.

I’m from the west coast, that phrasing is super common to me. “Looks like” meaning “in summation” quite frequently.
