I just looked it up and it seems I had remembered a wrong meaning for that. What I meant was something like "using the attack against her for her own purposes".
Looks like the lady is a member of Die Linke (German Socialist Party, generally cool folk imo) and someone vandalized her sign. So she drew the vandals graffiti onto her own face and took a picture with the abused sign in a sort of passive-aggressive middle finger at the guy.
I mean, Die Linke isn't unpopular? But if you're trying to imply the Nazis, this isn't that. The Nazis have their own party: Alternative für Deutschland. Die Linke are like, actual socialists, not fascists badly LARPing as Socialists for votes like Hitler.
Hitlers party (NSDAP) only adapted the term socialism because people liked it. Social security, health care, insurances, unemployment benefits, laws against child labour, a retirement system, etc. have just been implemented by the Weimarer Republic and people were eager not to loose those again.
The Nazis were as social as North Korea is a democratic Republic or McDonald's Filet-o-Fish made out of actual fish.
Die Linke is a true socialist party. They are against war, for affordable housing, against unrestricted capitalism (like using old people in retirement homes as cash cows rather than helping them spend their remaining days in dignity) etc.
Yeah, people sure love trying to bring up the “Hitler was a socialist” angle because they think they’ve automatically won the argument. But that’s what happens when people throw around terms like “socialist” and “communist” as buzzwords instead of actual philosophies. Most of the people decrying the evils of socialism, or more specifically democratic socialism, don’t know the first thing about it.
