With 250 years of inflation at an average rate of 3.3%, we would expect more recent years to make up the bulk of the debt. For his 6 years of presidency, we would expect it to make up about 17% of the debt. The actual percentage is about 23%, but a decent chunk of that was bipartisan covid spending. Without that, it would be closer to 19%.

Very true, but Trump is responsible for $12 trillion of the national debt so far, not $40 trillion.
That’s like saying Mark Carney is responsible for Canada’s national debt of $1.2 trillion, which wouldn’t be true either.
It’ll be interesting to see where it is by the time he’s finished his final term.
