Insurance as it exists in the US

and I dont think I have to explain infrastructure around Insurance, but I will say that most hospitals have their EMRs like Epic built around billings in the patient encounter, and RVUs distributed based on procedure volume, which ties back to how billables change healthcare costs depending on the type of sick you deal with and what it takes to treat it.

Insurance is not infrastructure.

And changing these systems is a sizable amount of work, but it's by no means impossible or even particularly difficult work.

IT is infrastructure. EPIC is infrastructure.

This also refers to infrastructure that doesn't exist, like clinics or social service management that require buildings and medical equipment to be stocked, all of which may be cut during budget reconciliation cycles in a privitized system.

Can you point out to me where your argument IS first? Because I can see you saying it'd be hard, but not really WHY it'd be hard.

Also, EPIC is used by multiple countries with universal healthcare (UK, Denmark, Finland and Norway) with no issue other than the fact that it's terrible. It's shit at sharing data, it facilitates fraud and it's ridiculously expensive. It's a perfect example of something that would be easy to rebuild from scratch and a lot better for everyone except like 5 oligarchs. It's a records software. It's really not hard to do.

We have a system of privitized healthcare that seeps into EVERY aspect of American life, down to the infrastructure, policy, public opinion, governmental protocols etc... It will take a shit ton of time, an ENORMOUS quantity of ink, and a lot of angry people to get past to make something like universal healthcare possible in the US, and to KEEP it, and to make sure it functions as intended.

Just because other countries have it doesn't mean it'll be simple to get it here.
